Grace Happens Here was a nice devotional. I loved the quotes and pictures throughout the devotional. There were some really good points and I loved the way it was all about grace. It wasn't a deep read, but I liked it. I definitely recommend the print version, as that makes the format easy to read and pretty.

Max Lucado is my favorite author of Christian books. I love his simple, down-to-earth writing. There's no complex theology, just a straightforward, inspirational message told through a bit of scripture and some illustrative anecdotes.

In "Grace Happens Here," the message is that salvation is the result of grace and grace alone - it can't be earned. Lucado compared grace to a spiritual heart transplant, giving life to a dying person. One of the most poignant stories in the book involved a heart transplant patient who had received the heart of a young lady killed in an accident. The young lady's mother later met the patient and was able to hear her daughter's heart beating in another body. Lucado wrote, "And when God hears your heart, does he not hear the still-beating heart of his Son?"

Throughout the six chapters, the message was consistent: God's grace is undeserved and cannot be earned. It's God's unconditional, freely given gift to us all. Lucado's storytelling style was ideal for the book. A story about a BB gun was used to show how Christ paid for our sin. Another story that came from the classic novel Les Misérables demonstrated how grace can change people for the better. One of the most fascinating anecdotes was how an artist turned junk from the largest garbage dump in Brazil into art treasures. And the familiar story of the prodigal son was used to express the meaning of forgiveness and grace. The son had not earned forgiveness, but his father gave it unconditionally because of his love for his son.

Lucado wrote, "Because God has forgiven us, we can forgive others." The stories used to illustrate forgiveness were remarkable for how deeply someone could be hurt by others and still find forgiveness in their heart. In the most dramatic story, a woman who was almost killed by a teenager's irresponsible prank forgave the youngster and asked the courts for leniency.

With "Grace Happens Here," Max Lucado has delivered another inspirational message in his own unique style, one that gets the message across simply and unequivocally without being preachy or heavy-handed.

Note: I reviewed an advance reader copy of the book made available by the publisher through NetGalley.

This was a short read which tells how God's grace changes us, shapes us, and leads us to a life that is no longer the same. A major theme presented was that the "grace given" are themselves "grace givers". Lots of Bible passage references and reminders of things that you already know but might need to be reminded about.

This is a lovely little devotional book. In his inimitable style, Lucado tells little stories of grace to inspire, comfort, and encourage. God's love shines through.

A small coffee table book filled with quotes and short stories that illustrate the different effects grace can have on our lives and on the lives of others. My Sunday School class paired the book with the six week video series, also titled Grace Happens, that Lucado delivered at Oak Hill Church. It's available for free online from the church and also on YouTube. Week six is only available through the church website, but we were able to find it. The book is a good reminder of how grace and mercy precedes sin, comes in abundance, and should be shared with others in the same way.

This is a coffee table-type book. There's a bunch of large text, photos/images, Bible verses, quotes, and short stories (including some dramaticizations of Biblical events). Stories were comforting and encouraging. However, there wasn't much depth to this book and that's probably not what it's really for. I borrowed this as an e-book, so I didn't know this would be what the book was.

Good for quick encouragements and pick-me-ups.

Very Good

A great short book that reminds us about giving grace because of the grace we have so lavishly received from God. I must say I was convicted at times because of the lack of grace I have displayed at times towards others. I will do better. This book also has beautiful pictures and fonts that are very relaxing.

This book was a gift given to me by a friend of my mother’s. At the time I realized I couldn’t really put into words what grace is, so I committed to read the book (even though it is very much not my genre). I did enjoy the anecdotes that were featured and the ways the book prompted me to think how humans can offer grace to each other as we live this life together.

One of my favorite spiritual writers. The book itself doesn't beat you over the head with religion. It just gives you reminders of the existence of Christ in the world. The picture alone are beautiful. A boost to the spirit.

This is really a compilation of other Max Lucado writings on grace, but I enjoyed it. Max isn't theologically super deep or difficult, but while on vacation, a morning reminder that wherever I'm standing I'm standing in the midst of God's enormous grace...well, not a bad way to start my day. This is the Kindle version of the book, and I thought they did a particularly good job of keeping the graphics in sync with the paper copy of the book. Nice little read.

A gem of a book. Beautiful in concept, gorgeous in execution. This is a book that touches the heart, wraps you in the warmth of its wisdom and reminds you that, of all the amazing things in this world, none is as powerful as the gift of grace.

This is a beautiful book. Not only is the wonderful message of grace beautiful, but even the pages are as well. Each page is full-colored with script font to eloquently convey the gift of grace available in Christ. Max Lucado is a great author and knows how to package together great books.

Good quick read

This book is a good quick read for anyone who needs a pick me up. God showed us the greatest example of grace that could ever be. This book reminds us to show grace to others and gives short examples of others Jesus included showing grace.
