From the carcass of a Washington D.C. car bomb explosion, the CIA launches an investigation into the mysterious events leading to the assassination of Chilean dissident and infamous casanova, Eduardo Allesandro Palmero.
As CIA investigator Alfred Dobbs rummages through the evidence, Palmero's politically turbulent life comes to light. But what Dobbs soon discovers soars beyond his wildest imagination. At the height of international terrorism, Palmero fights his war with an unlikely weapon, seduction. From Marie DeFarge to Frederika Millspaugh to Penny Anne McCarthy, Eduardo orders his sex-craving subjects into battle, tearing them from a life of tranquility and into the passionate caress of a man who will stop at nothing for a cause, his cause.
But when Palmero's carpet of lies begins to unravel, thread by thread, and his obsession-inducing sexual offensive comes to a halt, his very fate is at stake. Will the feared Chilean Intelligence Agency finally get him? Will lust intoxicate the minds of three women descending beyond reason? Or will the conned women become the conwomen?
Warren Adler was an American author, playwright and poet. His novel The War of the Roses was turned into a dark comedy starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito. Adler was an essayist, short-story writer, poet and playwright, whose works have been translated into 25 languages.
This story deals with the dynamics of relationships and the mysterious nature of love. Be warned, the story has extended graphic portrayal of sex, some may say it is even excessive and some may be offended by the specific detailing. “The Casanova Embrace” is a bubbling cauldron of the darkest thoughts and fantasies and a terrific story to ponder on.
The story is of three Washington women who fall for the charms of a charismatic South American and allow themselves to become his sex slaves and be manipulated into a bizarre and lethal scheme. When Eduardo Allesandro Palmero, the Casanova, is killed by an exploding bomb a CIA maverick question the reason for his death and looks toward the women in his life. The story is built around known events surrounding the assassination of one of Chili’s oligarch and the suspense begins…..
This is an absorbing and well-written story that explores the raw power of desire. Not only it is sexy but it is full of intrigue and passion. The portrayal of sex is inherent to character and plot development and not simply a distraction, they author must of asked himself hard questions before writing those explicit scenes. Indeed Casanova is the perfect moniker for this cone man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants but Mr. Adler suspenseful touch of the pen has given a spin to his plan and given Eduardo a well-deserved ending.
Romance and erotica is definitely not my forte but I make exception here. Three books I have read so far by this author all with a different style and context definitely a sign of a great storyteller.
My thanks to NetGalley and to Stonehouse Productions for the opportunity to read this book
Disclaimer. I had requested and received audible version of this book for free from the narrator, in exchange for an unbiased review.
What I liked about the book - The synopsis of the book is what caught my attention. It sounded very interesting and I was hoping for a fast paced and thrilling espionage story. But sadly...
What I disliked about the book - I was mostly let down by the content of the book. It relied heavily on way too much sex scenes and not much else. The plot got predictable for most part and there wasn't any suspense left. I had to force myself to keep listening.
Narration - Lynn Norris' narration somewhat saved this book. Different character voices had their own distinction and were thus easy to identify. The emotions were also conveyed appropriately.
Eduardo loved a woman who did not love him even though they were married and had a child. His political views were totally against those of his family and when the regime he supported was thrown out of power in Chile he was exiled to the US. He was followed by Chilean Information Services and CIA as well as by the women he had placed in his web to pursue his dreams of a socialist Chile. Beautifully written, Mr. Adler was a master with his words, The Casanova Embrace is a portrait of a time and a candid (and outrageous) usage of sex to dominate the women he needed to fullfill his dreams.
Have it in audio This is my first from the author. There is a storyline of desire , hunger of the human desire , letting your self go . The first I hear from the narrator. The voice was clear and you can tell the characters from the voice
This story is about three women that lets their desire speak for themselves. The three women get involved with a South American and everything is let loose.
Although this story is well written and suspenseful, I can't see any point to it. The characters are well developed and performed excellently by Lynn Norris, but it's a real stretch to believe these women would behave this way. The pace is slow and jumps around in time and perspective, making it a bit difficult to follow at times. At least the story comes to a satisfying conclusion.
NOTE: I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
