Kathy Harris is an author by way of a "divine detour" into the Nashville entertainment business. After graduating with a Communications degree from Southern Illinois University, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to work with a well-known gospel music quartet. A few months later, The Oak Ridge Boys began their transition into country music, and Kathy had the opportunity to help build an entertainment empire from the ground up.

She worked her way to becoming a member of the Operations Management Team, eventually heading up the company's public relations and marketing department. A lifelong fascination for books and editing led to her working as a book agent for Oak Ridge Boys' vocalist Joe Bonsall. Joe, subsequently, published a number of books, including his bestselling inspirational biography, G.I. Joe & Lillie.

For several years, Kathy freelanced entertainer biographies and wrote, as well as ghost wrote, news stories and columns for various music publications. In 2007, she sold her first Christian non-fiction story, "Walk on Water," which was included in Thomas Nelson's All My Bad Habits I Learned from Grandpa. That fall, one of her devotions was included in The One Year Life Verse Devotional, published by Tyndale House. Kathy's writing is also included in two Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

A member of American Christian Fiction Writers and former publicity officer for Middle Tennessee Christian Writers, Kathy lives near Nashville with her family and their Shiloh Shepherd dog. She regularly interviews literary and music guests on her blog, www.DivineDetour.com.

Abingdon Press released Kathy's Christian fiction debut, The Road to Mercy, in September 2012. Her first romantic suspense, Deadly Commitment, releases from New Hope Publishers in October 2019.

Kathy did a FABULOUS job in this debut novel. It was great to get an "inside" look at the music industry in Nashville. This was a story about forgiveness and mercy, but I think the BIG takeaway for me was the importance of having a faith grounded in Jesus, even before tragedy hits.

Overall, just a fabulously written novel and I'll definitely be looking for more from Kathy Harris!!!!

Title: THE ROAD TO MERCY
Author: Kathy Harris

Genre: Women’s fiction

THE ROAD TO MERCY is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Harris but it won’t be the last. I don’t see that this is Ms. Harris’ debut novel so I will be looking up her backlist. All I can say is WOW! Ms. Harris drew me into the character’s lives, making me car for that nameless baby who grew up to be someone special; a hurting married woman who has a medical illness and learns she’s pregnant; and a singer songwriter who has the weight of the world on his shoulders and is trying to do it on his own power instead of trusting in the God he sings about.

I literally could NOT put this book down. I started it when I took the girls to the pool right after lunch and then, instead of doing my own work I read until the book was finished. THE ROAD TO MERCY is an awesome book that deals with issues such as unplanned pregnancy, abortion, agnostic Jews, and ultimately, God’s mercy. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. Don’t miss THE ROAD TO MERCY. A must read. 5 stars. $14.99. 320 pages.

I find in life that sometimes despite our abilities to leave our pasts behind, sometimes it's not possible. Sometimes that past comes calling again, but we have a choice as to whether to open the door and deal with it or keep the door close and hope it stops knocking. In the debut novel, The Road to Mercy, by Kathy Harris, the readers are in for a journey that will outline what it really means to trust in God and learn to walk by faith, faith defined as believing in things we don't see. In each circumstance that the main characters are challenged with, Josh and Bethany Harrison, are tested in a wide variety of ways. The faith will come into question and will at times be doubted in some areas, and whole-heartily accepted in other ways.

The book begs the reader to ask their own question of where their life of faith stands. When hard times or unexpected circumstances come upon us, will we fall apart or fall on our knees. This book is perfect for these hard times we have all fallen upon lately, with job losses, health issues, financial strains, marriage problems, and more, I find if we don't have faith as our foundation, we will fall apart. We will look to fix things ourselves and at times will come up far too short. We must in fact, put our trust in God, because storms will come in each of our lives, our faith will be tested to points of breaking us sometimes, but it's how we weather our storms that makes us stronger and better prepared to deal with what happens next.

In The Road to Mercy, the reader gets to also know what true mercy is. Mercy is when we completely deserve punishment for something we have done wrong, but are instead given a clean slate, a new start, we get what we did not expect in return. I found myself wondering as I read along with Beth's health issue of being on the brink of death and learning she is pregnant, what decision I would make if I were in the same situation. While the well-meaning Dr. Ben Abrams tries to convince Beth and Josh that terminating her pregnancy is the best option, Beth and Josh choose to trust that God can handle the issue and will accept whatever consequences happen by their decision. Sounds like stuff that happens in real life all the time. Josh and Beth also find that dealing with the health issues and the pregnancy that it places them under tremendous personal stress of their own, each wondering if they are doing the right thing, which at times places them at odds with one another. Yet deep within the past are some secrets that may undermine their faith and completely destroy them. You'll have to read the book to see how this all plays out but trust me, it's well worth the search!

I received this book compliments of Pump Up Your Book Tours and Abingdon Press for my honest opinion and love that Kathy Harris chose this as a debut novel to write. In this tough times, we need books like this one to remind us of the cost of maintaining our faith. It may not be an easy road to walk but it will be one that pays off unexpectedly in ways we never imagined for our good in the end. For that reason I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

Kathy Harris in her new book, “The Road to Mercy” published by Abingdon Press takes us into the lives of Ben Abrams and Josh and Bethany Harrison.

From the back cover: Tragedy, love and secrets meet on a journey of faith

Dr. Ben Abrams, rescued as an infant from a fiery crash that killed his family, turned his adversities into success but lost his heritage of faith. Fifty years later Josh and Bethany Harrison face a difficult decision that also tests their faith. A rupture in Beth’s carotid artery leaves her on the brink of death, even as she’s pregnant with their first child. While Dr. Abrams urges her to abort the baby to save her own life, she and Josh step out on faith and continue the pregnancy.

During the next few months, Josh, a contemporary Christian singer, struggles with his faith while Beth hides a secret that may destroy their marriage. She also discovers a decades-old connection to Dr. Abrams that could change his life forever.

“The Road to Mercy” is a drama that explores real life events in a fictional setting. What sets it apart are the outstanding characters that Ms. Harris brings to life. Dr. Ben Abrams and Josh and Bethany Harrison are individuals who we may know from work or who live down the street that is how real they are. When they go through their pain and suffering we go through with them. God said we would have trials but that He would give us the victory so when these three experience their victory we let out our victory yell that will rival anything heard at a sports stadium. “The Road to Mercy” provides encouragement to keep working through our problems with God’s help. Kathy Harris knows how to tell a story and she has given us an amazingly beautiful story of how God can take our hurts and turn the bad into things that are good. I liked this book and look forward to more stories from Kathy Harris.

Have you ever dared to believe you could find God's forgiveness, even when you can't forgive yourself?

In The Road To Mercy, tragedy, love and secrets meet on a journey of faith.

~ ~ ~

The Road To Mercy is an inspirational and powerful story about accepting the mercy of God's forgiveness through trust and faith for the choices, secrets and betrayals that are made in one's life. It is a powerful testament to the beauty of God's awesome love for all of us, that He teaches us to forgive ourselves and others, and to show grace, mercy and compassion in order to move forward in our lives.

The Road to Mercy
by Kathy Harris

When you make a mistake, does God make you pay for it until He is sure that you have learned your lesson?

In 1959 a small plane crashed killing an entire family except for a small baby. This small miracle will touch lives in the small town of Mercy, Illinois in the years to come.

When Bethany Harrison develops a severe headache, her life is about to change in ways that she has never imagined. The first surprise is that she and her husband are expecting their first child. The second is that both she and her baby are in-danger from life-threatening micro rupture in her carotid artery and the drugs that she must take.

Beth's pregnancy and condition will test the faith that she and Josh both claim as their own. Secrets will be revealed that could destroy their marriage. Can this young, newly married couple survive and honor their vows? Or will fears from the past crush their faith?

Beth's faith that God will see her and her unborn baby through this crisis has a profound effect on her agnostic Jewish Neurosurgeon Dr. Abrams.

But both Beth and Josh feel that they are living a lie because of the doubts they are dealing with. As Josh, a Christian singer, tours he is struggling with issues related to his job - issues that could ruin his band and damage his career. But friendships, family, and prayer sustain them as they grow in their faith along The Road to Mercy.

The Road to Mercy deals with the issues of abortion, betrayal, forgiveness and trust. We never know whose life we touch along the road of life. Sometimes it takes years before a simple act takes root, changing the course we or someone else has set. But we must always be ready and willing to follow the Lord's leading in any and all aspects of our life. The most important gift we can offer someone is mercy, just as God offered us His mercy so that we might have the assurance of life eternal.

The publisher sent me a copy of this book to read and review for this tour. When I opened the package this book arrived in, I looked at the cover and thought ‘Oh, I do not think I will like this book’. I started reading this a few days later and I honestly could not put it down. I read the whole book in about 4 hours. I got that into the book and just could not stop.

This book will take readers on a trip of betrayal and forgiveness while learning to trust in God. Readers will see that the characters tried to put their trust into God but held back on certain things. For some people learning to give trust to something not seen is hard, for others it is easier to trust something not seen that something visual. Reading the story about Josh and Bethany helps the reader to learn how hard it is to trust. Learning about betrayal between friends and how they influence our actions. Learning that omitting something from a loved one is considered a lie.

Josh and Bethany are surprised when she has a major medical problem. They have release this problem over to God without a second thought. They know to trust in their faith. When other problems arise in their life they find it harder to turn the problems over to God. They find it harder to trust in their faith.

This book is more than just about betrayal and forgiveness. It is more than just about God. It is about trust and learning to place that trust in something even if it is something not seen. The Road to Mercy helps the reader to realize that a person’s past is just that. The past. It is something that cannot be changed or altered. We have to move on and forgive. We learn that we need to remember the past for what it is, hope for the future and live for today.

Thanks for an amazing read Kathy.

The bunnies and I give this book 4 carrots.

I won this book in a contest on The Book Club Network advertising the new release of their Magazine! I didn't know what to expect going into this book but I was wonderfully and pleasantly impressed with this one.
This book basically follows a couple and the people around them. I found it extra interesting because one of my friends is married to a professorial Christian Singer with a group and she also sings plays, sings and teaches. It gave me a lot more insight into the life of weeks and weeks apart in that type of lifestyle. It answered some questions??? about the "Performance" vs the "Ministry" part of Professional Christian Music for me and helped me a lot!
The troubled pregnancy was something I could relate to VERY well as all three of mine were very high risk and I almost lost all three of them and almost died myself getting through the last two pregnancies and getting to where I could have the baby.
And while I did not have the issue of guilt from a past abortion to deal with I have other things sexual abuse and rape when I was young, an abusive first marriage and believing a lot of wrong things about myself because of what others had said and done to me, to deal with.
I love that she used the technical information when it came to medical things. (although she does seem to have a bit of a thing for describing the carpet and flooring of every place everyone goes! :~) ) I still loved it!
I LOVE the hidden story from the beginning that is woven through the book and then revealed at the end!! BRILLIANT!! A true stroke of genius! I am a Kathy Harris Fan, put me on the list!

I Loved This Book! Right from the beginning, I didn’t know what to expect, it clearly is a book that doesn’t fit the formula. Be warned, once you start this book, you will not want to put it down.

Love, forgiveness, sin, challenges, secrets, betrayals, redemption, mercy and most of all… a deep abiding faith in God and His Mercy. Don’t skip the prologue; it will all make sense at the end. The Road To Mercy… well there’s more than one meaning there for sure. This is a great read with a powerful message that you don’t want to miss.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the relationship of Josh and Beth. They deeply loved each other, but like us, had their moments of conflict. I thought it was a great first novel. It was well written and had an easy flow to the story that kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. I loved how dedicated Alex was to Beth, and how Beth’s story tied in with Dr. Abram. Another positive aspect of the book was Beth and Josh’s faith. It was inspiring to read how Josh handled the tough situations concerning his career.

On the down side, I sometimes felt the author went a little overboard with Beth’s personality. At times she seemed…I don’t know exactly how to put it into words, she seemed almost childlike in the things she did and couldn’t do. Even in her condition, she should have been able to do things she struggled with.

My favorite character was Alex. I just loved her for doing all she could to help her friends, and was glad that she finally found what she didn’t even know she was looking for.

I’ll definitely be on the lookout for another book by Kathy Harris!

Josh and Bethany's life seems perfect until the day Bethany passes out in her kitchen and is rushed to the hospital with a tear in her carotid artery. Things take an interesting twist when they discover that Bethany is pregnant on top of everything else. The two must face their challenges with faith and courage, especially Bethany who must face a mistake from her past and it's possible impact on her marriage. I found this a sweet love story as well as a story of finding faith in the face of trial. The addition of the story of Bethany's doctor, Ben Abrams and his past makes for an interesting subplot. Some might say it's a big coincidence the way their lives entwine but I've found that when God is in your life such things are more than possible, they are even likely, while many things are impossible for us mortals, nothing is impossible for God. I recommend this book to those who enjoy a story of love and faith in the face of serious challenges.

Welcome to another page-turner. A Road to Mercy, by Kathy Harris, belongs in the PT category, as I like to call it. It is an excellent story written by a writer who obviously knows her " stuff." She is no amateur and definitely a professional in her field.

Kathy Harris writes a gripping story of a Christian country singer, Josh Harrison, whose fame is on the rise. As he travels the entertainment circle, his pregnant wife, Bethany, stays behind, facing a complicated pregnancy. How she wishes Josh could be home with her.

As the story develops, they both face crises of faith. Josh also suspects that one of his band members is stealing funds from the performance sales; and Bethany tries to reconcile a regretful decision she made in the past.

This is an excellent novel and I highly recommend it.

Once you pick this book up you won't be able to put it down. It is a compelling read.
The story begins with a Prologue, and I felt like I have read this part before? As we travel on we get to almost the end of the book before the pieces fall into place.
The theme of this story is about forgiveness, whether it is forgiving oneself...as Bethany has been unable to do. Or as in Josh forgiving Bethany and then himself.
We deal with a lot of uncertain happenings. Will Beth survive long enough to salvage her relationship with Josh? Will the baby make it. Then there is Josh's Christian Rock Star status. Will he find out who has been stealing from him, and will he be able to forgive?
This is a really great read, and I recommend you taking the time to read it.

I have been wanting to read The Road to Mercy for a while, so I was excited when BookClubNetwork offered it for my honest review. What a great book! Ms. Harris wrote about tough subjects so effortlessly, transporting us back and forth between a 50-year span without missing a beat. I loved the suspense and mystery that she added to the storyline for more intrigue and to keep the reader involved, but I also loved the complexity of the characters’ emotions as they were dealing with their own hurts from the past.

Road to Mercy will appeal to so many and I’ve already begun recommending it. I look forward to reading more books by Ms. Harris and am so glad I had the opportunity to read this one.

Josh and Bethany Harrison are a couple who faces many life changing events in their life. From the thrill of finding out that she is pregnant with their first child to the life threatening condition which could take her, the baby's or both lives, this book shows all of the pain and emotions involved in the decisions made. Enter into the mix, Dr. Ben Abrams who chose to live his life by science and not by faith. In this mix is also Isaac. An orphan from a long ago plane crash. How do all of these people fit together? How will they relate in the end? With both Josh and Beth keeping secrets, will their faith be enough?

Great book that explores the many emotions of mankind

First off, let me say contemporary fiction is not one of my favorite genres. However, this book sounded intriguing to me, so I decided to read it.

The Road to Mercy was good not great. While reading the book it kept my attention, but when I had to set it down I didn't want to rush back to it. The story was at times predictable and the ending left much to be desired, but overall, I think it is a nice debut novel.

Even though this book didn't wow me, if the synopsis sounds like something you would enjoy, I think you should give it a try.

Excellent!
Christian musician Josh is on the road with his band when his wife collapses with a life-threatening condition. The doctor advises her to end her pregnancy.

Author Kathy Harris did an excellent job keeping it real. The emotions hit home - from Bethany's struggle to accept God's forgiveness to Josh's "what next?" when problems hit, to the couple's conflicts. It's not easy to write about spiritual issues, but the prayers, thoughts, and dialogue referencing God felt completely realistic. The details about the music industry added to this story's authenticity. Way to keep it real!

The Road to Mercy
By: Kathy Harris

This is my first book by Kathy Harris I really enjoyed it. It kept me wanting to read and not put it down. Great Characters. Josh and his wife Bethany are faced with some major decisions they need to make. Can they make these decisions based on being Christians?
Not knowing if Bethany will make it through the decision they make. The decision they make is based on faith. Only god's mercy and their faith can get them through this trial in their life. I love Christian fiction Kathy did a wonderful job with this story. Looking forward to her next book.

I loved the Nashville setting, the glimpses into the music business, and the beginning of the book had me wondering what in the world was this about? Kathy Harris kept me reading wondering how all of the dilemmas that the characters wrestled with would resolve. The young couple faced spiritual, mental and physical battles with all the faith they could muster. What I loved most was the surprise ending! It gave me chills.

I was a little frustrated in the beginning because I felt the story jumped all over the place and couldn't find the connections between the different characters and time periods. HOWEVER, hang in there because when the light comes on it will be so worth it! Great story, uniquely told, and nicely woven together by the conclusion. My first book by this author and I would read her work again.

Very poorly written. Too many storylines that don't have anything to do with main characters. Dilemmas that you think are going to play out in a very big way are given ends too quickly. Way too descriptive with surroundings...on and on and on. .

If you are struggling with your faith, how to get through some trials and challenges, or wondering if God is even hearing your prayers, this book is for you. Even though it is a fictional story, the message is real.

I am reviewing this book as part of the PUMP UP YOUR BOOK promotional book tour. I am certainly glad to have found another new author and with a fabulous debut novel. Harris gripped me in her Prologue and had me wondering almost to the end how that scene connected to the rest of the novel.

As a Christian, I found the Scriptures and numerous prayers in the book to be integral to the telling of the story. The main characters in the story surround their life and their choices with their faith in God. So, it is natural to have God be a main character as well. Even those who aren't convinced in their faith, this book can show them that Prayer, Faith, and Hope can heal those past sins. Beth has a past that she is sure will destroy her life, her marriage and her faith and the way she reconciles her past sins with her current life is remarkable.

With Josh's tour and complications, Beth's pregnancy and health issues and Beth's friend and caregiver's budding romance on top of the intriguing Prologue, this book will have you turning the pages quickly. With its short chapters, you can easily "read just one more".

The book is full of "life-changing" and "thought-provoking" messages that will make you pause and reflect on your own choices. One of my favorites came from Page 237, "Praise God and you will eventually understand how many ways he should be fully praised."

I think the story was realistic in the way that when life hands us challenges and we continue to be confronted with mishaps and frustrations, we want to give up. It is natural for us to question God and His motives and whether He is leading us down the right path. The characters in this story frequently questioned Him and considered choices that could have been detrimental. Not everything in life, or in this book was tied up in a pretty bow, but the message stood out....If God leads you to it, He will lead you through it.

If your church group, mom's group or book club is looking for a book with rich discussion, this would be an excellent option. Possible topics could include medical choices, trust, abortion, grief, friendships, faith, and marriage. The power of prayer is evident in this story and will remind you that it needs to be part of our everyday life as well .
