The wisdom, wit, and experience of Jim Fay, Foster W. Cline, M.D., and Bob Sornson have been coupled together in Meeting the Challenge. This book is dedicated to the belief that challenging kids can grow up to be wonderful adults. It will help put enjoyment back into teaching and make parenting challenging kids a breeze. You will learn techniques that will help you raise joyful, productive, and responsible children.
This book goes into more detail than their basic "Love and Logic" book. There are chapters designed specifically for educators. I thought my children qualified as behavioral and attention challenged, but after reading this book I've realized my kids are probably just normal and not an extreme either way. It was a still helpful though.
I always feel so grounded after reading love and logic concepts. Parenting my 3 boys has been work but joyful thanks to these concepts. This book helped me to be ready for putting a plan in place to implement additional love and logic concepts as I transition to single parenthood and troubleshoot a few side effects from those transitions. The strategies work but require consistency. Parents can overcome trouble spots or seasons with this version of love and logic.
Lots of ideas and strategies to implement. I need that constant reminder that my students need support on how they manage their decisions, behavior, and choices , all with empathy. I struggle with letting them learn from their choices - its hard to watch them suffer but if I'm to help them grow into responsible adults the safest place is in my classroom where they have plenty of opportunities for success.
This whole series has been recommended to me because of the line of work I'm in, and while it feels difficult some days to use the tools they give you (when kids are misbehaving, it's hard not to get angry or to avoid showing frustration) I see them working whenever they're tried, and I highly recommend the whole series to anyone who has kids in their life.
I really liked this book! I have been looking for a new way to discipline the children without so much yelling. This book had great ideas! The book mostly focuses on children who have ADHD and how to involve the school in the discipline plan, but it can be used for any child.
Good overview of Love & Logic with added insight into possible contributors to lack of attention in children. Appreciated the examples of expectation, visual and auditory learning disabilities, and nutritional contributors.
