A solemn wedding vow, and one Lord Deverell's young bride most ardently wishes to bring about — sooner rather than later! Only minutes after the wedding ceremony Alexandra is brandishing a pistol, accusing her husband of ruining her family.
So Deverell makes one more vow — that he's completely innocent and will prove it. If she isn't totally convinced, then he'll take the consequences. He sets about winning Alexandra's trust — using every means at his disposal….
Sylvia is a great reader, whose preference in fiction is for thrillers and historical romances. She married Simon Andrew, the boy next door, and they have one daughter, Catherine, who is married and works in London. Catherine lives in Maidenhead quite near the river, and they have a small house in Normandy, which they visit whenever they can. They are great travelers — from a shopping weekend in Paris to a three week tour of Vietnam on a bicycle!
They both took early retirement and now live in the West Country with their dog and cat. Simon is an active town councillor in Crewkerne, and very well-known there. Until Sylvia retired she was busy to write, Teaching full-time as vice principal of a large comprehensive sixth form college, while also running a house and a family didn't really give her much time. She never attempted to have anything published before she sent in her first historical romance to Mills & Boon, in the days when the series was called "Masquerade." She was somewhat flabbergasted — though absolutely delighted — when it was accepted. Perdita first appeared in 1991, and she is still surprised at the idea of herself as a writer.
I found the pacing and structure off. The numerous flashbacks at the beginning, the yo-yo happy/not happy the couple went through, and the many cuts within scenes to get different povs or snippets of action.
It just didn't quite seam together.
The hero is a good man and I liked him the best of anyone; I understood his motives but not always his decisions. The heroine was too distrustful and flighty--for a childhood friendship that was 'always going to be love,' she should have been far more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and work with him to unravel the mystery thrust on them at the start. Every time I thought she'd at last gotten her wits about her she went and did something impulsive or stupid, mostly to get a plot wrench at her expense.
We knew they were MTB because we're told so, and that's fine. I enjoy several stories like that. But these two didn't earn much by way of proving it.
Y mi intuición no me falló.
2,5 stars. She was a bit annoying for not having any confidence in her husband, she knew him for so long- from when they were children, ff's!!! She trusted more a perfect stranger, than her own husband. Poor Richard. =__=
