Zombie Bowl: The Legacy of Dr. Z: As Recorded by KT Swartz

Rate this book
This novella may contain violence that is too graphic for younger readers. There’s an old lady who lives in the apartment above mine. She isn’t like most old ladies, with their dozen cats and pictures of their families decorating the walls. She keeps propane tanks in the bathroom, bottles of bleach and ammonia under the sink and in the pantry, and a bow and dozens of arrows in the living room closet. She also owns a storage unit full of sheet metal, matches, non-perishable foods, assorted combustible chemicals, nails, a hammer, and other bizarre things. Most days she sits in front of the window in her living room and watches the world pass her by, but I know better. She’s waiting. This is the true account of Dr. Z, one of the last survivors of the twenty year blight that killed billions of people across Earth. I have collected her memoirs through our interviews, through eye-witness accounts, and by visiting the towns she wrote about. I give these accounts to you, because should the Out-Break ever happen again, I want you to survive too. - KT

This book was a surprise to me. It was so well written I could not think of anything bad to say about it. The author actually made me think about the situations that the Heroine placed herself in and the reasons. If you have not read this book, you will be in for a pleasant surprise. Yes, it is a book about Zombies and yes it is about a person that is attempting to survive the madness that has befallen mankind. But it is so much more! The difference is she is not just existing she is surviving and she is fighting back! Her reasons are the same as anyone else that has lost a loved one but she is not reckless in her actions but methodical in all she does.

May lives by a very simple rule, don't get into situations you can't get out of, always have a back up plan, several hideouts stocked and ready and no matter how much you have, you never have enough. Since she is fighting alone she cannot afford to break her own rules.

Of course the situation changes about halfway or so into the book but never let it be said that May is anything but the hero of the story. To say more would give too much away and I certainly do not want to spoil anyones chance of experiencing the story as the author intended. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it and it's just a very well written book with nothing else in mind other than one person making the best of a bad situation in a Zombie apocolypse.

Although we do get a good insight into her thoughts and reasoning hopefully the author will see it in his heart to give us zombie fans more adventures of Dr Z in a prequel.

Either way, it is a very well written book giving the reader pause to say "Why didn't somone think of this before?"

Written SO WELL!!

One of THE BEST Zombie Books I’m proud to own! A woman heroine, good characters, lots of feeling and lots of zombie action! It has a great storyline, nothing is missing! I’d recommend this one to every zombie fan and more! I’m tired of the same old military jargon fueled Annihilation of the dead, and only the military leftovers that can stay alive, this was just an ordinary woman who was creative! She taught herself how to survive that is what saved the world, not a cure. There were no akward spelling mistakes or weirdly worded sentences to trip me up. It reads smooth and entertaining from page 1. This book deserves to be up there with World War Z, George Romero, and all of the classics of Zombie books! Couldn’t give a higher rating!! I’m just jaw droppingly, so happy I want to read it again!

A gripping true future history story.

Tired of zombies always winning? Tired of running for your life? This tells you how to be the predator again, not the prey.

A take that is believable, memorable, well told and worth reading. You get the feel of the characters, like you were right there with them.

Highly recommended. Have read and re-read numerous times, always with pleasure.

The first half of the book was awesome. Then it switched perspectives in a really bad way and introduced like 10 more characters that I was never able to fully connect with. The ending came quick, leaving a lot of things unanswered and me wanting about another 50 pages.

The writing is good, but there were 10-15 grammar mistakes, which suggests that this was not professionally edited.

If you like zombie apocalypse stories, this would be a good book for you to pick up.

A good zombie apocolypse book. The entire first half is from one point of view and then it switches to another point of view. Not sure how I feel about the change, but I definitely think that something needed to happen because of the extreme solitude the first half. The change in viewpoint stirred it up a bit. If you're squeamish then this may not be the book for you- pretty graphic descriptions. I would recommend it for those who enjoy zombies! :)

I started this thinking it would be another run of the mill zombie book, but it has alot going for it and I stayed interested in it till the end. I found myself telling her what to do next! Loved this book!

An enjoyable quick read. Suspenseful for most of the story and May's survival techniques were well detailed. This was a free kindle DL so not bad but there was not enough character depth or background story to differentiate this from your run of the mill zombie story.

Loved it, the story was about the inner turmoil one goes through when dealing with an apocolypse. How easily a once loving/trusting/care-free woman was easily turned to a cynical/loner/survivalist.
