Morningstar is the author of two captivating and engrossing novels.
His debut novel The Starlight Prophecy is an intriguing and dazzling gem of fantasy, science fiction, and horror about an intrepid band of women whose passionate intellect, fiery nature, and adventurous hearts collide with an ancient alien prophecy that thrusts them on a perilous journey to save the Star people only to end up themselves trapped in the maniacal and deadly obsession of the one who wishes to destroy them.
Here they experience what it feels like to become something more than human, something alien, and superhuman that enthralls yet terrifies them. As an alien prophecy drives them to a shocking destiny, they must accept or turn away from it in terror.
Morningstar’s second novel Gloria Rising is a gripping psychological and supernatural novel based on real events. Linden's unique experience as a hypnotherapist gives psychological depth to this powerful and unsettling story about a woman terrified of going insane and desperate for help.
Gloria must face and accept the horror and repressed trauma of her childhood to heal and transform her life. Her hypnotherapist, Dr. Adam Jaxon is confronted by Gloria’s baffling array of psychiatric disorders and symptoms, and dangerous sleepwalking episodes.
Even more bewildering is the unexpected appearance of a heavenly presence during Gloria’s hypnotherapy sessions that claims to have come to help Gloria, watch over her, and guide Dr. Jaxon's hypnotherapy. An astounding turn of events that unnerves the usually unflappable Dr. Jaxon and forces him to reconsider his own metaphysical understanding and psychological grip on reality. Dr. Jaxon’s beliefs about reality and the nature of existence are profoundly tested and reset later when the mysterious being reveals its astonishing identity.
Gloria Rising is a trailblazing psychological novel based on true events that takes you beyond the books about the intriguing multiple personalities like Sybil and The Three Faces of Eve to a living hell of indescribable terror and horror—and to something beyond that is otherworldly, which defies the principles and understanding of modern psychology and psychiatry.
Legendary hypnotherapist, Dr. Adam Jaxon, is on a quest to rescue and heal his mystifying and perplexing patient, Gloria from the brink of madness and horrifying nightmares. Gloria’s riveting story is told under deep hypnosis where her unconscious mind automatically writes down the terrifying details of her nightmares, to expose the shocking truth that may set her free or plunge her deeper into madness.
Gloria’s automatic letters are compelling, and heart-wrenching yet open the doors of perception to a deeper awareness and higher consciousness she needs to solve the puzzle of her escalating madness and uncover the dark secrets buried in her nightmares—a mystery that Gloria is terrified of facing, yet must, to escape the madness and reclaim her sanity and life

I received this book through the First-Reads program, and unfortunately, it wasn't quite my cup of tea.

The story is that of a group of five sisters who, through otherworldly encounters, come to discover their Star Powers to fulfill the Starlight Prophecy by becoming Mystic Star Warriors. The description of the book makes it clear that this is a superheroine novel - which it certainly is. I can't help but feel that it might have been a bit better in graphic novel form.

I felt that Linden Morningstar came into his own when describing the alternate worlds. The descriptions of Garlic and Aagaatar were disturbing and refreshingly gross. Garlig's insanity and torture methods were delivered to the point that he made a compelling villain, and the reveal near the end with Aagaatar came out of left field in a refreshing way. The space sequences, all in all, tended to be good. The initiation, on the other hand, I felt was a bit lacking. Similarly, I wish more time had been spent on Garlig's Gauntlet.

I think my main problem with this book was that I never felt the Stargirls were going up against anything they couldn't handle. Even with the OT poisoning and the like, the threat of danger never seemed fully in place. I'd like to see the girl's turned more effectively against one another - which nearly happened, but didn't quite - and a bit more surprised by their sudden introduction into an alien world. While it's clear from the start that they believe in the Ancient Alien Theory, I still think there would have been a certain lack of acclimation to their otherworldly circumstances. I wanted more conflict... that way the stark Love vs. Hate message would have rung more true.

I won this book as a Goodreads giveaway many, many moons ago, and it just kind of got lost in the shuffle. My goal for 2018 is to clear out some of the earlier books I've won and haven't gotten around to yet.

Unfortunately, this book falls into the same trap that many self-published novels do -- it's lacking ... in EVERYTHING. The editing is spotty at best (lots of grammar and style errors that are pretty unforgivable), formatting is iffy, character development is non-existent, and the plot is questionable. If any one of these things is lacking and the rest are passably done, a book can be semi-enjoyable. Fail on all these levels, and it's probably something that shouldn't have been offered up in this format. At best, this is a first draft that should be heading out to first readers, not an actual published piece of work.

Getting into more specifics, I found there were far far too many characters, and none of them were more than names on the page to me. The supposed 5 main characters (which in and of itself is WAY too many for a book this length) all blended in with each other, because they all seemed to be experts on all the same damn things, and were clones of each other for the most part. Nothing they did affected the outcome of this novel; things just seemed to happen around them, they reacted, and problems got solved while they were along for the ride, and not as a result of anything they themselves did. It bothered me that he spent a large amount of real-estate at the beginning of the book describing all the girls' schooling and majors/degrees and all that jazz, but by the midway point in the book, none of them actually used any of that knowledge/expertise in any meaningful way -- in short it was wasted space.

Just a quick word on science... if you don't know, don't make shit up. Generalize, sure, but there was so, so, so much bad science in this book, it made me very sad.

The only real saving grace of this book was a relatively short chapters, because in order to make it all the way through this book, the only way I could do it was read a chapter in one sitting, then put it down for a few hours/days, then pick it up again and lather, rinse, repeat.

If I was a first reader for this book, I would have suggested that the book focus on ONE heroine, pick one genre (either fantasy, Sci-Fi, or horror, not all three), make that main character more proactive instead of reactive, give them actual failings, and finally go back and bone up on basic grammar/style rules.

First I'd like to thank the goodreads team for giving me a free copy of this book!

Unfortunetly, I was not a fan of that book. I found the story not really inspiring, even if it has two or three good moments, the character seem empty to me and I couldn't care less about them. Also, I'm not sure a appreciate the mix of fantasy, horror, science-fiction, and young adult, in one book. I'm sorry for the author because i'd really want to like his book but couldn't. I even think about not finish it a couple of time and have to kick myself to continue.

Maybe it was just not for me!! I don't know, but I can recommend it to anyone.

I received this book as part of the goodreads firstreads giveaway. This is a fun and colorful book about 5 stargirls chosen to save the world. I agree with one reviewer who said this book might have been better in graphic novel form. My biggest problem with it was that there was no real showdown with the antagonist, but based on the epilogue I can only assume Mr. Morningstar is saving that for the sequel. I would recommend this book to fans of scifi and comic books.

For starters I'd like to say thank you to the first reads program for providing me with a free copy of this book. But unfortunately I also have to say that I didn't really enjoy it. The main characters's personalities seemed forced and I didn't connect with any of them very well. They also seemed a bit too capable to handle the challenges they faced so that they weren't really challenges. I really wanted to like this book but it just fell a little short to me.

I won this book through Goodreads First Reads.

However, two factors keep me from putting up a review, currently I'm a college student, and the book hasn't come through the mail yet.

So review to come (eventually).

I loved this book. The Stargirls evolution was mind-binding and astonishing. The alien worlds well crafted and believable. Aagaatar and Garlig were terrifying and fiendish aliens. I would recommend this book to SF and Space Adventure readers.

The Starlight Prophecy was a joy to read. The Stargirls evolution was mind boggling and the aliens and other worlds were so creepy and real. Aagaatar and Garlig were unbelievable monsters, you would not want to meet in a back ally. God, I loved this book.

The book was awesome. Intricately written and the premise, plot, and characters leaped off the page, leaving you wondering whether the Stargirls would rise again.
