I thought this book was ridiculous. The author claims to have done research, but this book is a rip off of the movie "million dollar babies".
I also think it's disgusting that the author wrote 222 pages defending the parents of the sisters. Those girls suffered while living with them. The only thing the author managed to get right in this book is the hypocrisy of the government. I mean, yes, the parents did fight to get the girls back into their custody, but not for the reasons this book says. They were money hungry.
All in all, this book should never have been published. I couldn't read past chapter 5 when i realized that it was all written with sympathy for elzire dionne. she was a disgusting person and doesnt deserve anything she got. The author should have done more research, and if he had I think this book would have taken a very different direction.
I looked forward to reading this book, but I found it poorly written. The author needs to remember that although he has done extensive research on the Dionne quintuplets, many of his readers (including me) have not. He needed to give more information - I didn't have a clue who many of the characters were.
Maybe it should get 2 and a half stars...It took me awhile to get into the book, I didn't know anything about the quintuplets so it was an intro into their very strange growing-up years. Additional reading has shed light onto both sides of the story.
It was interesting to read how people with their own agenda can have such a effect on a family. I wonder if the quints were born in a time other than the depression, would the same results happen. The book was very informative.
