⭐️⭐️⭐️✨3.5
I read this book for my Spanish 3 class, and it’s absolutely adorable. I don’t have the best understanding of Spanish by any means, I’m not fluent, nor can I really hold a conversation, but yet it’s still almost comforting being able to read and understand a story in a different language. This is a cute, predictable children’s book and I really think it’s useful to read children’s and middle grade books. Super cute, love Makenna🥳

I mean, for a book I had to read for school, it wasn’t that bad, and the tests I had on it boosted my grade in Spanish, so that is a plus. It had a pretty interesting storyline, and for someone like me who sucks at Spanish, I actually understood it, and it made me feel pretty good and more confident with my Spanish comprehension. If any Spanish teachers are here reading this, I’d go for it. I am pretty sure my class enjoyed it too. Just take it slow and make sure to help your students out a little, and I think it will be a good addition to your curriculum.

For a book I read in Spanish class, it was oddly very interesting
It was funny at times, and I felt very smart while reading it

This was a cute story, but I'm mostly so excited that I read an entire book in Spanish and understood everything! :D

I previewed this book and Noche de Oro to see if they would be good fits for my students and I think these will be great. We just finished a unit on Costa Rica (AdiosTextbook.com) and I really wanted a reader set in Costa Rica. The book reviews a lot of basic Costa Rican cultural points that I think the students will enjoy being able to easily pick up on. This book (past tense) does a very nice job of incorporating some nice advanced grammatical structures without seeming too weird (granted, it IS a reader! But it isn’t too cheesy!). In addition to the cultural points (it isn’t TOO overloading on info either!) the plot was fast and pleasant and I have to say I was actually pretty surprised by the ending!

I don’t have the teachers manual yet but the preview looked like it has some good and relevant talking points (like how long could you go without your cell phone).

I recommend this for teens and adults learning another language. The reading is smooth and easy and has an interesting plot and some key cultural points. Also, the chapters are extremely short and make for nice bite sized pieces to keep it manageable. Great job, Kristy!

One of my favorite FluencyMatters books. An enjoyable story will both expected and unexpected plot-lines and character developments. It was delightful to adventure through a reader for language learners and have to puzzle out which was which. I'm excited to recommend this to students.

3.5 stars. This was a solid book with an interesting storyline. I used it as the first book for my Spanish 3 class. They found it very accessible and were nominally into the storyline. I don't think there was enough of a cliffhanger for them to care much to read the sequel on their own. But this first one was easy enough for them to read and for us to discuss as a class. Not a ton of culture, though. I preloaded reading the book with a few lessons on conservation and environmentalism, but honestly those ideas didn't come up really in the book - other than Dr. Parker's field of study and the birds themselves. But there was no discussion on the repercussions of poaching those birds other than the health and safety of the birds themselves. The resource manual was okay. It had a few nice ideas and appropriate handouts/quizzes. However, like a lot if teachers' manuals, it was a little repetitive, there was no final exam, and it did not really bring in outside resources. The environmental/conservation resources/ideas I got from blogs. Still, I recommend - an engaging, easily accessible story that students can interact with on their own.

I didn't enjoy this book very much. It didn't have a good storyline. It was about a girl who encounters robbers while going camping. The Spanish in the book was also a little bit difficult. The book was also long. I recommend this for people who don't like books, that want an easy to understand, longer book. I gave this book a 2 out of 5 stars because I didn't really like it and it was boring.

This is probably the best of the CI books I've read. It was interesting. It has a few holes, but I guess that's what you get when you're reading a shorter book. I liked that Placido had a tiny bit of mystery with Juan Carlos and whether or not he was actually a bad guy and then in what way was he bad. Overall, decent book for Spanish II students.

Similar to the last book in french I read, the plot is decent at best but the book certainly helps my french. Recommend for learning french and not for leisure reading material.

I read this book in my Spanish class and it was very helpful to my Spanish learning experience. The plot in this was subpar and was lacking but as my very first book in Spanish I’m happy I read it:
