RICHARD SCARRY is one of the world's best-loved children's authors EVER! In his extraordinary career, Scarry illustrated over 150 books, many of which have never been out of print. His books have sold over 100 million copies around the world, and are currently published in over twenty languages. No other illustrator has shown such a lively interest in the words and concepts of early childhood. Richard Scarry was posthumously awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators in 2012.
A bird that befriends a worm instead of eating it. The idea might be appealing, but it is also a little misleading (but not seriously so). I'll see what the kids have to say about it.
This beginning reader tells the story of how Early Bird met Lowly Worm,
I have a vague recollection of Richard Scarry's artwork from my childhood. Mostly I remembered Lowly Worm with his single pant leg, single tennis shoe, and his hat. The illustrations of Lowly Worm himself has stood the test of time even though the story is at bit date.
Ihan hauskaa lastenkirja-absurdismia.
This absurdity level in this book demands a review. Everyone knows the age-old saying, "The early bird catches the worm". Everybody (besides the deluded kids who enjoy this book) knows that when the early bird catches the worm, it certainly isn't to invite him to dinner. Rather, for breakfast. And the worm is eaten. It's the solid truth! This book twists the meaning of the maxim. Besides, the bird isn't even early. The aforementioned worm is taken home and fed peas. PEAS! It is almost an outrage.
Early bird goes on and adventure to find a worm, suggested by his mother. Unknowing what a worm looks like he comes across a few other animals that lead him in the right direction, in hopes he will meet his new best friend. The fun adventure takes a turn for the best and as always, the Early Bird gets the worm.
My sister has chosen another friendship book to read, these books alway are a little bit heartwarming to me, and the best part is the new beginning with a friend. I highly recommend reading these books to children. Friendship is one of a kind.
I really like this book, and friendship books in general. The pictures are fun and colorful. The story also comes across without too much detail, allowing the kids to pick up on things that aren’t mentioned.

Early Bird wants someone to play with. His parents suggest he look for a worm. Early Bird goes outside to search.
At first he does not meet with much success. He finds a frog, a ladybug, and a field mouse--but then he meets Wiggly Worm. Early Bird pulls Wiggly Worm out of his hole and invites him home for dinner.
Wiggly Worm eats dinner with Early Bird and Mama and Papa Bird. He spends the night with Early Bird.
Both Bryce and Sean found it delightful that Wiggly Worm slept in the dirt in the flowerpot in Early Bird's room!
Early Bird is trying to find a worm and is asking everything he comes across if it is a worm. He ask a ladybug, a frog, a rabbit, a mouse, and still can't find a worm. Once he does they play together for the rest of the day. Strange book as the Early Bird eats eggs for breakfast, but becomes friends with a worm.
This is a wonderful book. In real life, a bird and worm wouldn't be friends because birds eat worms. In this book though, the worm and bird are best friends and end up having a sleep over together. The book is about looking for a friend you can have for a life time and have to spend all your days with. This is a great book with good illustrations.
Very good bedtime story for your little ones. Even though the story is a bit older, and I can recall myself reading this as a child. I enjoyed reading this along with my children. My daughter was rather amused with Wiggely Worm.
