My parents don't call it that. They call it "some quality downtime with my grandmother," but I know better. It’s totally because of the scandal.
Now I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere, living in a lighthouse with a woman I don’t know. The only good thing is that no one here knows what happened at home.
With over 6 million books sold (and counting), Kathia’s novels have been #1 bestsellers around the world. They’ve received starred reviews from Booklist, have consistently earned Editor’s Picks for Best Romance, and have been featured by O, The Oprah Magazine and Entertainment Weekly.
Kate (aka Kathia) has written over 50 romcom and paranormal books so far, as well as a couple romantasy screenplays and various poems (her ode to the color orange is particularly moving). Full of hope and bonds of found family and friendship, her stories feature sassy, independent women who just want love and earthy men full of heart who are more than able to rise to the occasion.
I did not like the Grandmother blatantly ogling and sexually harassing her son's employee while greeting her granddaughter. Like, it's the second thing out of the character's mouth! Ick.
I actually quite like this author but this novel was pretty sparse- a lot of fluff and not a lot of substance. I kept waiting for something to actually happen, but not much did. Cute and quick read, just nothing below the surface on this one.
I write my reviews in the five different categories: Cover/Title, Characters, Plot, Suspense, and Overall. I rate each of these categories 1 to 5 (1 being the lowest). CONTAINS ONE SPOILER IN CHARACTERS SECTION.
Cover/Title: 4 out of 5 I honestly thought that the cover was kind of cheesy however, it was romantic and it caught my eye. The title was the same as the place Paige worked so it fit with the story.
Characters: 1.5 out of 5 Paige was very boring to me. There was nothing super interesting about her. Justin wasn’t realistic at all. He was a nice guy, but just too perfect and unbelievable. This may be a spoiler, but I hated that just because there was a sex tape of Paige online (by the way she didn’t actually have sex), she acted like it was the worst thing in the world. I didn’t understand Justin and Paige’s connection. It was all too unreal to me. The only reason I ended up finishing this book is because there actually ended up being some type of character development on Paige’s part.
Plot: 1.5 out of 5 First of all, when I read the plot of this book, it was very vague. The author did not give you too many hints or details to what Paige’s situation really was. Also, this story was poorly written. It did not give a good depiction of what first love really is like. The writing lacked edge and uniqueness and overall it was very weak.
Suspense: 1 out of 5 At the very beginning of the book, I predicted right away how the story was going to end. I kept reading just to see if it ended differently from what I thought was going to happen, but it did not. This book had nothing special about it. I feel like I have read books and seen movies like this 100 times.
Overall: 1.5 out of 5 Going into this story my expectations were very low. I got this as a free eBook because it sounded like something I might like. I was highly disappointed with this book. I am very hesitant to read anymore of Kate Perry’s writing. If you are looking for a contemporary with realistic characters, a well developed plot line, and great writing, do not bother picking this up.
This book was wonderful! I found this in the free section on iBooks and was so pleasantly surprised to find that it was a well developed short story with wonderful characters. Paige, the main character, was great. She was quirky and funny and her beauty wasn't gushed over which was nice. She was very put together and very bright, even when she was going through some serious stuff. Justin... dear god Justin. That boy was amazing. He was very laid back and smart and not compared to a god which was refreshing. He was very playful and incredibly sweet. The supporting characters like Darcy and Henry were great as well. Their roles and personalities in this book were a perfect fit and they made me smile on numerous occasions. I loved that this book had all of the mainstream quality and none of the mainstream bullshit. There was no love triangle or bipolar characters that love someone one moment and hate them, the next. The plot was great, the characters were great, and the writing was great aside from a few small errors. What more can you ask for from a free book?
I got this book from the free section on iBooks and didnt expect much from it.So i was surprised when i wanted to keep on reading. For one I liked how the author used datails and really described places, characters, and feelings. In addition i liked how Paige -the main character-learned life lessons and she found her true self.
Loved the sweetness of the story and the wise dialogue between characters. This has the making of a young Nicholas Sparks novel. There is a bit of humor that weaves in and out that just makes this book perfect for me to refer to a young reader. Sweet, sweet, story.
This was not my favorite Kate Perry book, (I have read a few so far and love her writing), but it was simple and sweet, just as the title promises :). I am glad I read it and I will continue to watch for her books to add to my shelf.
I had a hard time connecting to Paige. I also never felt her chemistry with Justin This book would have been much better with Darcy as the main character.
Normally I can't put a Kate Perry book down. However, this one took me almost a week to read because I just couldn't get into it. And the ending was so abrupt...an epilogue might be nice.
