Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala (Nepali: विश्वेश्वरप्रसाद कोइराला) was born in Varanasi to father Krishna Prasad Koirala, was one of the greatest Nepali political and literary figure. He was the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1959 to 1960 and also the first democratically elected Prime Minister in Nepal's history. He held the office just 18 months before being deposed and imprisoned by order of King Mahendra. The rest of his life was spent largely in prison or exile and in steadily deteriorating health.

While Koirala is considered one of the most charismatic political leader of Nepal, he was also one of the most well-read and thoughtful writers of Nepalese literature. He wrote short stories and novels, and some poems. Koirala began writing short stories in Hindi. His first stories were published in Banaras in Hansa, a Hindi literary magazine edited by Prem Chand (India's Tolstoy). His first Nepali short story "Chandrabadan" was published in Sharada (a Nepali literary magazine) in 1935. Koirala was very good at depicting the character and mind of women. Four other stories of Koirala were included in Katha Kusum (an anthology of Nepali stories), published in 1938 in Darjeeling. As a social realist, with good psychological insight, Koirala had established himself as one of the most important Nepali short story writers of Nepal.

well the unicode problem so trying in English.
I had read this short story by B.P Koirala long ago. I think while i was in class 8 or 9, I am confused now. Any way at the time the story seems a funny one and .. that is all. But I read it after 2-3 years afterward (still a long while ago, then i got shocked. How the writer has presented a critical state of mind of our character Keshavraj. I never forgot the starting line of the story (Keshavraj ko chasma doshi thiyo). Yeah i totally agree with that the eyeglass was the main problem not Keshavraj's error. Anyway that is not the theme even though it was for me at school.
The main issue of this story is not the sequence of events but the effects of events psychologically.
Keshavraj is a kind of guy who couldn't overcome with his fear and go on depressing without a major reason. He would treat things like a huge issue in other hand they were minors.
B.P. Koirala is our best psycho analysis t story writer and he deals with Keshavraj's psychology in this story. Short and simple but a wide exploration of psychological insight.

Actually, we had a lesson of it in our high school curriculum, but afterwards, it got to read the whole book. B. P. Koirala is really great storyteller in psychological field. the story represents the inner turmoil of a person after doing a mistake due to his faulty spectacles represented our own situations in mny of the hard times.

A great read.

Can't recommend. The translation could use some work, but it isn't too bad. The real issue is the stories - I would say only the titular story is really very good. The others are just brief -slice-of-life pieces where the protagonist encounters something but doesn't do anything about or learn anything. I did highly appreciate the explanatory footnotes for non-Nepalese natives.

I have read this book during my school days long ago. This book depicts the human psychology and explains how the small mis-understanding lead you to the situation like the character in this story goes through. A very good read.
