The residents of Cape Light and Angel Island will learn to speak what’s in their hearts this holiday season in this heartwarming novel in the New York Times bestselling series.
Adele Morgan has made mistakes in her life. After a serious medical scare, she realizes her greatest regret is that she sat idly by while a petty dispute tore her family apart. She has returned to Cape Light determined to mend broken relations and bring everyone together for the holidays. But Adele’s arrival elicits little delight. Neither Molly Willoughby nor Sam Morgan has time for their grandmother’s plan to reconcile. It will take a miracle to unite Adele’s family. Luckily for Adele, miracles can happen at the Inn at Angel Island.
Meanwhile, there’s another visitor, a skeptic determined to debunk Angel Island’s legend. Grad student Jonathan Butler plans to prove the angel lore is nonsense and leave with a grand “bah humbug!” Stuck on the island for Christmas, he spends his time doing research in the Historical Society where he meets local undergrad Tess Wyler. It’s only a matter of time before he too falls under the island’s spell and realizes that the proof of Angel Island and Cape Light’s magic lies within.
Thomas Kinkade was known as the "Painter of Light." His works, although spurned by the secular art establishment, were very popular with Christians and many others.
This was the last novel co-authored by Thomas Kinkade before his death. As with the other Cape Light novels, the main characters continue to grow and change as Christ works in their lives. I certainly hope that Katherine Spencer will continue the series as I would especially like to find out what happens with Jonathan and Tess.
Another sweet Christmas novel about Angel Island from the team of Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer - widow and now 90 year old Adele Morgan has come to the island to mend the estrangement between her son Joe, living in Cape Light and younger son, Kevin. Many years before, when Kevin was a desperate alcoholic, Adele's late husband gave him their thriving business in hopes of giving him a purpose in life. But, since the business had really been promised to Joe, it created a terrible, unforgiving chasm between the brothers. Adele has promised herself, before she passes from this life, to do anything to bring them both back together. Even with the help of her grandchildren, Molly and Sam, a miracle by Christmas - if even her lifetime - seems impossible. Also staying at the lovely, old Angel Inn is grad student Jonathan Butler, eager to write his dissertation paper on disproving the existence of the legendary visit of angels to the island during the 1600s,. While doing his research at the Cape Light Historical Society at Lilac Hill, he meets waitress/undergrad student Tess Wyler who also works as a docent and helps Jonathan find the needed information. As Adele and Jonathan remain longer than intended at the Angel Inn, the island seems to work its divine presence upon them.
I've loved the 12 books before this one but this one left me flat. I didn't really care about any of the characters and the stories were just...dare I say "boring"? I'm hoping that the next book in the series has the same magic the previous 12 had.
Another good Christmas story from Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer. Adele Morgan, almost 90, has loaded herself into her car for the drive from Vermont to Cape Light. She feels the extreme need to bring her estranged sons back together before she dies and wants to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren once again. Once in Cape Light she finds that explaining the past and asking forgiveness are even tougher than she thought they would be. But, Christmas Miracles do happen and perhaps there is a chance.
Also, visiting Cape Light is grad student Jonathan Butler. He has come to debunk the claims that angels came to the island 200 years earlier to save a group of deathly ill people. What he finds is more than he bargained for when he meets Tess Wyler who also has an interest in the history of the area. Jonathan finds angels his mind for many reasons.
Sadly, we have lost The Painter of Light, I wonder if Katherine Spencer will continue this series as the characters are always interesting and mostly lovable.
I have enjoyed the whole series. They are perfect for the holiday season. This one focused on Sam & Molly, and their grandmother, trying to heal an old family disagreement. Even though, you know it will end well, it's still a good read. I like that the stories always have a mix of familiar characters mixed in with new ones.
This is a continuation of the Cape Light series and I hope there will be others. While much of the story introduced a few new characters and took place mainly on Angel Island it was a warm, caring, loving story with strong ties to friends and family. It brought out laughter and tears and was an enjoyable read. I wasn't disappointed.
I absolutely loved this novel. Combining the residents of Cape Light and Angel Island together for a holiday story was just wonderful. I sincerely hope that Katherine Spencer carries on these two series as I can foresee so many more stories about the folks that have become as dear as friends throughout these books.
I really liked this book because characters from Angel Island are intertwined with some of the characters from Cape Light. As usual, there are two story threads running simultaneously and both work well together. 1. Adele has come to Cape Light from Vermont to make amends with her son Joe. Joe is still very hurt from something that happened 7 years ago when his father died. 2. Jonathan Butler has come to Cape Light doing researching on the history of Angel Island. The legend goes that *angels* helped the quarantined people on the island. Jonathan is determined to find information on this. He meets Tess who works part time at the Clam Bake. Although their first meeting was not stellar, the two form a bond. Tess also works at the historical society which is a great source of information for his research. In both storylines, there are bumps in the road. This is a book about forgiveness.
A Christmas story which did have a romance (always so predictable), but also family drama that was real life and based on faith to get through.
Addie is in her 90’s and wants her sons, Joe and Kevin to reconcile after being estranged for years. Joe is still bitter that his father left the family business to his younger brother. The reunion does not go as planned and Addie’s return to her home in Vermont is delayed giving her more time at Angel’s Inn. This along with a snowstorm and Christmas season gives her family some more time to think about the rift.
A happy family filled story ending. This year I just needed to read some Christmas books with a little more substance than the typical Hallmark Christmas stories.
Another great story in the Cape Light Series. This time it is about a divided family and all the anger they harbor. It is the journey of an aging mother and her two sons and their families. I found this book easy to read and so interesting it was hard to put down. It's a great book for any woman to read and even for young teenagers although they might not find it as exciting to read.
if you're looking hard for something, you just might find it, and it just might change your beliefs. I also love when families reconcile their differences. Praise God that He gives us the strength to forgive.
I have been reading this series for a year, one book each month. This book was especially fun to read in these days before Christmas. It was another delightful trip to Cape Light focusing on the importance of forgiveness.
I enjoy watching characters change in this series. Each book shows how people, events, and just the feeling of a small community can change people's ideas, plans, goals, and beliefs.
This used to be my grandma's. I've been going through her things and I flipped through this expecting it to be meh, but I forgot how much I love Thomas Kinkade :)
I loved this book as much as all the others I have read from this author. I love all the characters in the series and will continue to read them as long as they continue to be written. The series includes all of the Cape Light books and now the Angel Island books (which is situated near Cape Light on the other side of a bridge.) In this particular story, a college student comes to Angel Island to investigate the the legend of how the island got its name and maybe even debunk the legend if at all possible. In the meantime, reconciliation and forgiveness is the theme for a Christmas miracle in this one. Thomas Kinkade is the author, along with Katherine Spencer, and I hope that even with his demise, she will continue the series.
Possibly last visit to Angel Island and Cape Light. Jonathan stays at the inn to learn more about the story passed from generation to generation about how Angel Island was named when a devastating disease came through in the 1600's and the community put all the affected persons on an island to keep the rest safe. Adele also comes back to stay at the inn also to mend the fence between her two sons. Christmas is coming and the Christmas spirit is at work in Reverent Ben's Christmas sermon and in everyone's hearts.
I have read at least 6 books of the Cape Light series. I have enjoyed each and every one of them. I pick up one of these books when I'm looking for a wholesome book to read. Cape Light embraces the values and ideal of yesteryear. I enjoy "being" in the town of Cape Light and following the adventures of its citizens. Even though this book was a little predictable, I still enjoyed reading it a lot! I hope Katherine Spencer continues the series, now that Thomas Kincaide unfortunately passed away!
A light romance which connects the Inn at Angel Island with members of the community of Cape Light. Jonathan is researching the legend of Angel Island for his doctorate and meets Tess - a waitress/history major/docent at the local historical society. Their story is complemented by the story of Adele Morgan who also has come to the Inn at Angel Island. Her purpose is to reunite her sons before she dies. The main characters from the Cape Light books all make an appearance here since Adele's grandchildren are Sam Morgan and Molly Willoughby. Readers of the series will enjoy this book.
I love the books in the Cape Light Series and this is just as good as the others. I found it difficult to put down. I loved the inspirational thread of the importance of forgiveness. The only thing I did not like was the mention of one of the main characters drinking beer and the fact that he is a deacon. I do not believe Christians should drink alcohol, However I realize a lot of Christians do not have the same view that I have. It was a clean book.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that a new book was out this year after the passing of Thomas Kinkade. I really enjoyed it. The Cape Light books have been my favorite books to read during the Christmas Time. Since this book talked a lot about the new series Angel Island, I plan on starting those books in the new year. Definitely recommend!!!
