Meet Ava Spivey. She's a popular divorce attorney in Hollywood and is known for her tenacity in the courtroom and her mega-million dollar settlements for celebrity clients. However, her own marriage begins to fall apart after a surprise encounter with her high school boyfriend.
When hot action-adventure movie star, Sawyer Winston, retains Ava to represent him in one of Hollywood’s biggest divorce scandals yet, she finds herself in trouble after a media leak threatens to reveal a secret that Sawyer had strictly confided only to Ava.
Will Ava be able to save her marriage and her career?
Split Decision is the second book in the Hollywood Hill series. It features your favorite characters from Special Delivery - Dr. Hope Love, Brad Whitfield, and Venus Vanderbilt. However, this series can be read in any order.
This book is approximately 25K words and is what I term a "novellini". Perfect, delightful story for those who want to read a light, funny book while at the beach, or in the tub with a bottle of bubbly, or snuggled up in front of the fire sipping hot cocoa. Enjoy!
As a sequel to Special Delivery I liked the exploration of a minor character here as well as discovering the continuing stories of some of the other characters in the first book. There is a different feel however it has a lot less chick lit humor and romance but still enjoyable.
It is not as good as the first book but I still enjoyed it. This book is a lot less romance and more of a woman discovering her life is not working and trying to fix it.
"Split Decision" is a delightful little gem by Author Traci Hohenstein! This is my first read by this talented author and I know it won't be my last. In fact, I notice that I may have mixed up the sequence of this Hollywood Series by reading this novel first but, nonetheless, "Special Delivery" is next on my list and I can hardly wait to get started.
Author Traci Hohenstein has delivered a well-written, captivating novel with many unexpected twists and turns sure to capture the interest of her reading audience. Ava Spivey is...wife of almost 20 years to Mark, mother of college-aged twins Aubrey and Allison, and successful divorce lawyer to prominent people in L.A. At her rate of $1000 an hour, only the rich and the famous can afford her. All is well until she runs into her highschool sweetheart, Craig. Before you know it, she is having an affair and is possibly a candidate for divorce herself. As her life unravels before her, she is forced to make some major decisions. Caught in the act by one of her daughters...and the complexities that arise from this discovery are sure to entice those looking for a great storyline.
"Split Decision" is a most enjoyable novel. I actually found it refreshing to read a book that deals with such an intense subject as divorce in a light-hearted yet productve way. Kudos to this author!
So... this is why I should use GoodReads more again, I saw this on the Kindle thought - I don't recall reading this before (it wasn't in a read folder) so read it. It wasn't until the husband is in hospital that I thought it was familiar and now I discover I read it almost exactly two years ago and loathed it. Wish I had thought to check before I re-read it - would have saved me a half hour.
The plot - successful high powered lawyer has an affair and her daughter in a fit of spite leaks a clients detail to the press. (There is more to it but that is the gist)
The characters - forgetful, I normally remember I have read a book within a couple of pages at the maximum - never most of the way through a book. I didn't like the female lead, there is no male lead (not a problem I did like that we weren't given an obvious male lead for us to (supposedly) wonder if our female lead would ever get it on with him)... I won't go on.
The thing that gets me most is the level of disbelief suspension required to swallow the end of this. The daughter leaks privileged information and doesn't even get a proper telling off? Whilst there is no damage done to her lawyer mothers reputation? I find that very very hard to swallow.
The book started off on the right foot -- powerful woman, beautiful, older, successful. A woman to envy with her busy law firm, gorgeous family, and succulent lifestyle. But the you learn something that makes you hate her just a little bit...she's not so perfect after all. For a few pages, I was mad, and I wanted to hate her, but then something else happens and suddenly you understand it a bit more.
This is a roller coaster ride of emotions for its length. Up and down, you enjoy the ride with Ava from beginning to end as she comes to terms with her betrayal and battles the emotions that come along with it. By the end, you want to pause and give thanks for the things YOU are blessed with, and maybe kiss your husband, too :)
A great little read, nice and light and a nice follow on from Special Delivery, it was nice to,have the continuation of characters we've met previously.
