Not That Type of Guy is the sweet and sexy story of Aiden and Trace. Aiden is a CIA agent with a tough job. He keeps people at a distance, especially woman, thinking he really can't get into a serious relationship. After an unexpected sexual encounter with another man, Aiden has to face the reality of his feelings and what he's been hiding from himself. Aiden's character was written in a way that we were able to feel his conflicts and emotions. He had had it drilled into him his whole life that being gay was wrong and bad, and he was terrified of his own true feelings. He had kept them hidden for so long that he was a wreck when those feelings finally made their way out.
Trace is a doctor who changes Aiden's whole way of thinking and, ultimately, his life. I liked Trace. He knew what he wanted and wasn't afraid to go after it. The attraction between Aiden and Trace is intense, and they were fun together.
The story was good and fun to read. Through the story both Aiden and Trace learn life lessons. Aiden, that you can't fight who you are, and Trace, that things aren't always black and white.
One thing that bothered me throughout the story was the way too many emotions. Aiden is supposed to be this tough CIA agent, being put in life and death situations constantly, yet he's an emotional wreck. I get that he is going through a conflict, but I would have liked him more if he were more firm and less teary. I also am not a fan of instant love. Instant attraction I get, but love really needs more time to develop.
Overall this was a fun, unique story, and thank you to the author for providing me with a copy to review!

SUMMARY (50 words or less)
The first part of this book was stellar. I thought I was going love it. Then the second part happened. There were just two things that really bothered me. The story still remained interesting and held my attention until the end with a bit of eye rolling here and there.

First on a positive note, there were a lot of good things in this story. The CIA elements seemed to be handled fairly well and held the story together for me. The whole lead up with Chuck was pretty hot. But I have a problem with “insta love”. And I found it here in the book. I will explain in more detail in the spoiler section. I also had a problem with the change in the main character’s voice. His dialogue just seemed to change all of a sudden.
To explain, I have to give spoilers. So I'll leave it up to you if you want to read spoilers.
My book boyfriend Aiden (NC-17) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Aiden Johnson is trying really hard. The CIA assassin walks the straight and narrow, doing his job, dating gorgeous women, being the man his dad would want him to be. He's never really done anything about the lingering thoughts he might have about other guys.
Until a fellow agent, on a mission with him, goes down on him as part of dodging the bad guys. That may have been taking their cover a bit far, but it did the job. And made Aiden think those thoughts again.
When he meets Dr. Trace Williams, he's determined to stay straight, be who he knows he is. Then Trace kisses him and throws his whole world into a tail spin. Makes him question himself, all his decisions, who he chooses to be. And scared him back into the arms of women. Only...it doesn't work anymore.
He can't fight his attraction anymore. Trace hits all his hot buttons. But he can't be gay. Can he?
Now his life is in danger - he's the target after a blotched job. And his fledgling relationship with Trace? It may be over before it really starts now that Trace knows what Aiden really does. He may have to leave the love of his life in order to keep him safe. Is he really THAT type of guy?
Sara York has captured all the joy and stomach-wrenching fear that comes with admitting to oneself the truth that one is different. Gay. And she nails it. This is a sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes heartbreaking story of one man's journey up to and through the fire. And, it's a hell of a good action story too.
Aiden breaks my heart. So much angst, history, uncertainty. He has to come to terms with what he's suppressed and hidden for so long, and it almost destroys him. He's built such a self-image of manly stud, and now he's forced to deal with the fact he's still that same guy. Just, he likes men now.
And Trace - he's funny, self-righteous. Sure of himself and knows what he wants. Isn't afraid to admit he wants a relationship and wants Aiden. Then his whole world is turned upside down and he isn't so sure he can be that man for Aiden anymore.
I liked the romance here, but I loved the front burner story of who is behind the attempts on Aiden's life too. There's a great tie-in that brings the two men together and I. Loved. It.
Ms. York has a great touch with her story-telling, and kept me totally involved, bouncing back and forth with the adventure and the romance.
I was very excited about reading this book. The premise of the book has a lot of merit. Aiden is a CIA assassin who is struggling with his sexuality. Trace is a sweet, innocent, doctor who tempts Aiden. I had a really hard time connecting with the characters. I found I just didn't care. When I should have been upset Aiden and Trace were having problems, I just couldn't bring myself to be worried or upset about it. I also found parts of the plot a little difficult to believe. Things regarding Aiden's assignment and then the trip to the Poconos and then the Rio incident felt forced. The writing also felt flat. There didn't seem to be much steam and passion between Aiden and Trace.
The parts I did like about the book. I loved that Aiden struggled so much with his sexuality, especially when his upbringing was brought up. He really struggled with things and tried to block and deny his homosexuality. He was very concerned with what other thought, his co-workers, family, and even strangers. It was interesting to watch how he dealt with all of this and hear his inner monologue regarding these concerns.
Meh m/m romance about a CIA assassin who's been in denial that he's gay until something happens on the job that makes him reevaluate things. The plot was over-the-top implausible and the relationship between the two MCs had me rolling my eyes.
My review is in spoiler tags because it hasn't been edited yet. It probable has too much negative stuff as that's what I tend to think to write down. If I'm enjoying myself, I don't want to stop reading!
Very hot! Scacciapensieri.
I loved how attraction and self-realization tore Aiden apart so much so that he kept fighting that same attraction. Love and lust can make a strong man weak and human. Aiden had always fought his inner self and his attraction to males. He denied it. He was a mess.
The private desires he had weren't for real, just pent up lust. The need for release had him hot and bothered. No gayness at all, just desire making his dick hard and his balls full. Liar, liar.
Trace did not deny being gay. He didn't shout it out but he did not hide. He saw Aiden suffering through a date with a female. He saw Aiden check him out. He followed Aiden to the men's room. He approached Aiden.
"It's your life buddy; don't waste it trying to be something you're not. Here's my card if you ever...well, you know. My personal number is on the back."
Trace and Aiden had more problems that Aiden's sexual confusion. Trace was a doctor. He saved lives. He could never accept Trace's profession. He could never accept killings.
The emotional turmoil in both characters' lives kept me reading. They were both interesting and dedicated to their professions. Aiden's journey was rough. Trace's was tragic. I loved them and their story.
I wanted this book to be good, but it was just really not. It was insta-love not insta-lust, and some of the things were just so over the top, reactions to each other, the way Aiden struggled with his sexuality, Trace rolling over after being mad about him not calling, how much he told him about his job, all of it. Then, the fact that the whole book takes place in something like 5 or 6 weeks where they both leave the country for 2 weeks at different times without contact. I rolled my eyes so many times throughout reading this and had to really push myself to continue after I got about halfway through.
Aiden, a CIA assassin, finds himself struggling much more in his personal life than perhaps even in his profession. On the outside he seems to be the epitome of masculinity: big, buff, and beautiful (cough handsome). As a means of fostering these masculine ideals he seems to be rather disconnected from the rest of the world.
This inner conflict that arises when his masculinity is called into question or at least in his mind when he struggles with potentially being gay. Eventually he meets a lovely man who he cannot stop thinking about. This doesn’t help the case he is trying to make towards his heterosexuality. Trace is a handsome doctor who has experience and the two begin down a path of discovery in the form of a relationship.
For me this book in its bare bones was good, I really did enjoy the story line and the basic character development. The issue I found for myself was the chosen language… This book is considered adult and has sexual themes so perhaps although I am an adult I was just not prepared. I found that again the sexual content would have been a lot more bearable had it not been so constant for most of the book, I feel like the book would reach a greater audience that way. Also certain words chosen to describe the sexual encounters I found to be slightly cringe worthy, had another word been chosen perhaps it wouldn’t have bothered me as much… maybe Im too plain.
The characters themselves were somewhat hard to relate to, I found myself feeling for Aiden during his time of confusion and self-discovery but at the same time I really cared for what Trace was thinking and feeling more.
I loved the CIA aspect of the story and thought that the secondary storyline was refreshing, I don’t want to spoil it but it was interesting to read. I found it to be something eye-opening that I wouldn’t think about on a daily basis but is likely something that happens more than one thinks.
Overall as I’ve said I did enjoy the book I would just urge people to heed the adult sexual content warnings, please do not think I am being critical because this is a male-male, I assure you any form with this language would be shocking.
I love a book where I can feel like I am the characters while reading. Not just one but all of them, good bad or ugly. Sara accomplishes that very well in all her books. I was not disappointed with this. It was above my expectations.. I could feel Aiden’s conflict of his emotions. I could feel his needs, his fears of having to come to the realization that he was gay. I ached with him. I cried for and with him. When he melt Trace, I felt his want his need his desires, his hunger, his confusion. I wanted to grab him by the shoulders and shake him and say- get over it. Quit wasting time and hurting these women you jerk. Go meet Trace!!Thank goodness he listened, or we wouldn’t have a good MM story. We got a great one. Lots of mystery suspense and romance. What more could you want? So I will tell you a little about the story. Aiden Jackson has a secret. Actually two. His job and his sexuality. He works for the government as an assassin and he is gay. But he don’t even know it yet. Trace Wlliams is a Dr. He is gay and he isn’t hiding but he isn’t actually advertising either. His Co-workers don’t know. He has a lover but it’s just a physical thing. Someone to satisfy his physical needs. He wants someone to satisfy his emotional needs as well. He sees Aiden in a restaurant with a woman and notices him checking him out. He actually is so attracted to him and can just feel he is hiding his sexuality that he actually confronts him in the restroom. Neither man can seem to get over this initial meeting. So. Do they actually get together? Does Aiden finally embrace who he is? Where does his job come into play? Well you will have to read the book!! You won’t be sorry!! I promise!

Not That Type of Guy starts off with our protagonist, Aiden, in the middle of a CIA operation, tailing a criminal. To avoid being detected, he slips into a bathroom stall with a male team member, Chuck, who ends up performing oral sex on him to throw off the mark. This encounter leads to Aiden reliving his past with his abusive father and his repressed homosexuality. While struggling with his identity, he meets a sexy doctor, Trace, and the rest of the book follows their relationship.
I found Aiden to be an engaging and multidimensional character. York did an admirable job realistically describing his internal struggles and I sympathized with his motivations for dating women. In addition, I enjoyed seeing the relationship from Trace's point-of-view and his own issues with Aiden's ruthless profession.
Overall, Not That Type of Guy was a fast and engaging read. Although the ending seemed a bit convenient, I felt York successfully wrote a complete short story detailing Aiden's journey in accepting his sexuality and the evolution of his relationship with Trace. I would recommend this book to fans of M/M romance, especially those dealing with coming out.
The emotional display of the MC's in this book was a bit much for me throughout the book. I'm sure men do cry but it just felt a bit out of place when presented in the story. It took me about halfway into the book to get interested in the story. Yeah yeah, sex sells and all that humbug and I'm sure the beginning of the story was meant as an attention grabber but for me it just kind of grated on my nerves a bit since reader's find out that Aiden is in denial and is so for a few chapters.
This was most probably closer to 3.5 stars for me. It was a nice story, pretty typical "my work gets in the way of love" plot line. Surprisingly, I didn't have any issues with the exchanging of "I love you"'s after only knowing each other for maybe two days but I can see how that might bug other people.
Overall, it was a good, short, fun read. No editing/grammar issues that I picked up on either so that was great :)
if you are not ok with M/M book this is not for you
Never read anything by this author. Stumbled into it through another author. This story was super intense and full of discovery. Aiden works for the government and thinks he has everything figured out in life until a mission starts to go south. Aiden discovers things about himself that he knew deep down but refused to accept. Grace is a doctor who was okay with who he was. Situations happened making both understand the other side. I really enjoyed this book.
Blog Post: http://lovebytesreviews.com/2016/07/1... Aiden Johnson is an assassin for the CIA. Whilst Aiden is on a mission in London his partner ‘Chuck’ has to take evasive measures when Aiden is being followed, the only problem with that is the evasive measure Chuck takes is pulling him into the men’s toilet and gave him the best blowjob of his life! The only problem with that is Aiden isn’t gay but the thing is, he really likes it! He has to keep telling himself that he’s not gay! When Aiden returns to America he can’t stop thinking about Chuck and the blowjob and then he remembers the words of his father the one time he caught him masturbating to the NBA calendar over his bed – not the cheerleader version, telling him not to be such a faggot. Aiden is so devastated by his body’s betrayal all he can feel is shame. It gets so bad Aiden arranges a date with Jessica, a woman he used to date before she moved for work. The date is a washout; Aiden finds himself far more interested in the guy sitting at the next table. When Aiden takes Jessica back to her hotel everything goes wrong especially the fact that he can’t get hard. Trace Williams is on a date with Derek, the only reason he dates him is because they both know they’ll get uncomplicated sex, no strings attached. Then Trace notices the guy at the next table with the good-looking woman, he even tells the man that pretending won’t work, he’ll still be gay no matter how many hot women he goes out with! When Trace see’s Aiden again it’s in the ER when Aiden comes in with a woman he rescued from being attacked. Once again Aiden decides to prove to himself that he’s not gay he sets up a date with Sue this time. This date doesn’t even get started, after the first kiss Aiden calls Sue Trace! Night over! On his way home Aiden stops at a gay bar to prove he’s unaffected by men. He’s not there an hour when he’s getting a blowjob from a random guy. Two days later Aiden turns up at Trace’s work. They go for dinner and while they sitting there Aiden realizes that he might just be starting to fall in love with Trace. Then Aiden starts to panic. Both Trace and Aiden are unbelievably attracted to each other and can’t stop thinking about each other. The next several months aren’t easy by ny stretch of the imagination but they do manage to fall in love. They’re on a weekend break when they inadvertently become mixed up in a case that the CIA is setting up but one that Aiden isn’t involved in. After the weekend when Trace comes face-to-face with what Aiden does for a living he realizes that he doesn’t want anything to do with Aiden. That’s it, no more! If you want to know how this fabulous story ends you’re going to have to get yourself a copy and read it. I must say with every book of Sara’s I read I fall more in love with her imagination! Go on, grab your copy of Not That Type of Guy.
Hmmm... I was expecting an "assassin" story... and I kinda got a "OMG I can't be gay, but he sucked my dick and I liked it" story... which is OK... BUT...
I must say that the scene with Trace in Rio was really the only one that really got to me... Maris? My heart was broken and at the same time I was ecstatic with joy... what a weird feeling! If the whole book had made me "feel" like that scene did... then this would have been a 5-star read... or MORE!!! :D
Don't get me wrong... I liked Trace and Aiden... they were good together. They just didn't click for me. I am fine with insta-love (lust? Whatever!)... but, I was expecting a "bad ass" in Aiden and got a... well, I'm not sure what I got, but it sure wasn't a bad ass assassin! I loved that he was thoughtful and that they did their "research" with a 15 member committee before they put a hit out... but I wanted "action"! Wild chases through the city! Hot sex on the run! Bullets flying and a cool, level headed assassin coming to the rescue... but, I got a guy who was gay... who had known he was gay for most of his life... but his favorite thing to say to himself and the men who are interested in him is "I am NOT gay!" Seriously? *headdesk*
So, I walk away from this story a tad bit disappointed... but that is OK. Overall it was an entertaining read and it is NOT Ms. York's fault that I made some wrong assumptions about this story... that is all on me! I have NO fear that there are plenty of kick ass, bad ass good guys out there, who just happen to be assassins... I just have to go find the right book... ;D
