Monique Martin, alias Gabrielle Vincent, was a writer and illustrator of children's books from Belgium. She was born in Brussels on 9 September 1928, and died there on 24 September 2000. Her nom de plume is derived from the first names of her grandparents, Gabrielle and Vincent.
She worked as a painter of water color before beginning a career in the 1980s as an illustrator with the series Ernest et Célestine, adapted for cinema in 2012.
No hacen falta apenas palabras para sentir la tristeza y la alegría de Celestina. Me recordó a mí misma de pequeña revolviendo las fotografías de mis abuelos.
I liked this one less than the previous Ernest and Celestine book we read (the Picnic One) but my 3 year old liked it just as much. This one had me a bit more confused about the nature of the relationship between these two (Are all kids mice, where do the bears come from?) but was still fairly cute and a simple read.
Célestine realizes that Ernest have pictures with other mice, but none with Célestine, and feels left out. To fix it, Ernest tells her to get on her best dress and they go to the photographer together, building more memories as the family they are.
Celestine is upset when she discovers a drawer full of photos of Ernest posing with other mice. Ernest thinks fast to soothe her temper. With lovely, soft illustrations by the author.
