The book contains 52 chapters with a vocabulary of over 4,000 words. It will serve as a basis for further and deeper study of this classical language and its literature; at the same time it will help to form a good foundation for those who wish to concentrate on the modern written language of literature and the daily press. This is above all a practical grammar. It is meant for the beginner who is not familiar with the peculiarities of the Semetic languages. Nevertheless, it is comprehensive enough for most students' needs in the first two or three years of study.

The best Arabic grammar book out there. Straight-forward and succinct. I recommend it for the intermediate to advance student of the Arabic language who wants a good review book.

The best pedagogical grammar of MSA ever written. It is however not exactly a reference grammar which is served for well by the Routledge comprehensive grammar and 'Modern Literary Arabic- A Reference Grammar' by Ron Buckley. It is full of exercises and a supplementary textbook is available separately that contains the keys. The vocabulary is quite extensive comprising about 4000 items. A must for any arabic learner!

I've read this book, returned to it frequently for review, and have taught courses using this as the main textbook.
I would propose that it's one of the clearest and most useful introductions into Arabic Grammar for the student of Modern Standard Arabic.
I would highly recommend this, along with the answer key for the exercises.

Absolutely essential for anyone wanting to seriously grasp the Arabic language, whether to grasp classical texts in Arabic or more modern usage.

Superb for the fascinating subject that is Arabic grammar! Verb forms you never dreamed existed... An Arabic verb can have 10-15 versions, each of whom has single, dual and plural, in first, second and third person! Not to mention perfect and several different imperfect forms, etc... Did I mention active and passive as well...
Fun for grammar/language nerds like me!
The only negative is that if you want the answers to the exercises, it's another tenner for the separate book of answers!
