An untried youth assumes his duties as High King. But as trouble stirs between nations and rebellion threatens Faeraven, his position is far from secure. Can Elcon trust that the Elder youth accompanying Kai is the DawnKing, sent by the High One to deliver his people? Or has something gone horribly wrong?

Driven to prove himself, Elcon embarks on a peace-keeping campaign into the Elder lands, where he meets a beautiful Elder princess. But Aewen is betrothed to another, and Elcon has promised to court the princess, Arillia, upon his return. Declaring his love for Aewen would shame them both and tear apart the very fabric of Faeraven.

Elcon’s choices lead him into the Vale of Shadows, where he learns that to deliver his people, he must first find his own redemption.

Janalyn Voigt's literary education began in childhood when her father read chapters from classic children's books to her as bedtime stories. She grew older, and the bedtime stories stopped, but Janalyn continued to fall asleep to the stories she made up in her head at night. This, combined with her avid consumption of books, gave Janalyn an intuitive grasp of storytelling. Adventure, romance, history, suspense, and fantasy or whimsy appear in every story she writes. Readers who enjoy Janalyn's vivid descriptions, realistic dialogue, and unpredictable plots often follow her across genres. Janalyn Voigt is represented by Wordserve Literary Agency. Wow, this series just gets better and better! You will need 5 Full, Hot Cups of Tea for WayFarer by Janalyn Voigt! Once again Kai whom we met in book one is on another adventure to protect Faeraven. If you love a good fantasy about the Fae then this is the tale for you! Voigt' world-building is just amazing, her writing makes you feel as if you are watching it on the big screen, you truly feel a part of the journey!

This was insane! The ending was pretty good. Somewhat expected, but unexpected. The writing as the first book was awesome! I loved the world and the drama. I loved the dynamics that can be seen between the Kindred and the Elders. I hope more of that gets expanded on in the third book.

Elcon is the main character in this book. With Shae having left, he now has to rule Faeraven. I love Elcon as a character because he is very straight-forward and comical. I got to see more of his vulnerable side which I was totally here for. He's such a great high king.

Kai is my love! I loved him in this book. His strength, his love for Shae, his love for his work. He's just awesome. I did not like how he just disappeared...I need answers! I LOVE Emmerich! He is amazing and I'm excited to see how things go for him in book three. Shae made her few appearances and I was so for it!

The whole romance in this book was interesting enough for me. Still a bit confused with Arillia and Aewen. Loved both ladies as love interests for Elcon though. Aewen was an interesting character, but her family was absolutely freaking annoying to me.

I'm confused about the baby...did she die or not?! So much confusion.

Freaer didn't have much in this book, but he still found a way to ANNOY ME!!!! I can't stand him.

I'm excited to dive into the third book and see what happens next for the crew.

My second visit to Faeraven was much more comfortable than the first as by the end of Dawnsinger, I became familiar with the vernacular and Jenalyn Voigt’s story world and the cadence of her writing. Wayfarer isn’t exactly a sequel to the first book, more a continuation of the tales Voigt weaves. Kai and Shae take a step back and Elcon (the newly appointed Lof Shraen, or as I thought of him, the high king) gets his time in the spotlight.

This second book is a complete contrast to the sacrifices Shae and Kai made in book one. Too often Elcon makes selfish choices with no thought of the consequences. But when those consequences come, they are devastating.

The allegory in this book is deeply entrenched and abundantly clear when held up to scripture of living for the flesh versus living for the spirit.

Voigt left me both satisfied with the ending of Wayfarer but wanting more because of the unanswered questions remaining. And when I read the synopsis of the upcoming release (Sojourner), I have even more.

***3.5 stars***

This is the second book in the Tales of Faeraven series. It picks up where the first left off. I would suggest that before picking up this book, DawnSinger should be read first. It really laid the background and foundation for the series.

This book is a fantasy about a war between good and evil. The kingdom of Faeraven is under attack by someone who claims to have a right to the throne. The holdings are split and both sides prepare for war.

I liked the scope of the story. Janalyn Voigt has thought out and is able to execute the plot of the series. Every little action has a consequence that is meaningful and contributes to events that occur later. Because this story is big in scope, I felt that in a couple of places it was a little choppy and it took me a bit to get back into the events I was reading. Eventually, the story would even back out and continue at a good pace.

I adored the flying horses. The fantasy elements really appealed to me. In my mind, I think of there being elves and humans. I am not sure if that was what the author was trying to portray, but it makes sense to me. It also takes me back to the books that I read as a teenager. The fantasy genre will always have a sweet spot in my heart.

Is this a book that I am glad that I read? Yes, it is. Even though it was harder to follow in places the story and action are sound. I do plan on reading the rest of the series. I do hope that some of my favorite characters will be able to make it back to their loved ones.

Wayfarer by Janalyn Voigt was a wonderful read. The mix of fantasy and medieval elements is pleasing and her descriptions bring the world to life. The story line of rebellion and forgiveness bring the characters into being, and comparisons to modern day living run deep. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her latest book in the series and look forward to the next one...

WayFarer is book two in Janalyn Voigt’s Tales of Faeraven series. Because the story definitely builds on book one DawnSinger I highly recommend reading it first. Voigt does include a synopsis of DawnSinger which is very helpful if it has been a while since you read it. Voigt has done a good job of building a Fantasy world and keeping it consistent. She created many words and things that are unique to her world. The 12-page glossary at the end is extremely helpful for deciphering the unfamiliar words and terms, although it is cumbersome to have so many unfamiliar words. Besides the alternate world, Voigt includes many characteristics of a good fantasy. There is an epic journey or two and quite a bit of adventure. “Soul Touch” provides a magical element. Wingabeasts and other animals not present in our world fulfill the mythical creatures aspect of a good fantasy. Overall I enjoyed the fantasy aspect.
Christians will see parallels between the story in WayFarer and stories in the Bible, yet it is done in such a way that those not familiar with the Bible will view it as a good story. I cannot wait for book three in the series which is due out later this year.

I will probably be adding this series to my K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for middle school and up.
I want to thank Prism Book Tours for the complimentary copy of WayFarer. This is my honest review.

Wayfarer is the continuation of the Tales of Faeraven series and did stand on its own pretty well. It has been a long time since I read DawnSinger but I still remember being shocked at the ending.

Wayfarer picks up with Lof Shraen Elcon (a ruler/prince) and shows the results of his faulty decisions, especially when receiving advice from the wrong person. I also thought that maybe power had gone to his head and unfortunately promises are unkept and hearts are broken as consequences.

Elcon falls in love with a princess he was not meant to be with for many reasons. Their story is rife with problems but I do see that they loved each other very much.

This is a fantasy story set in a medieval like setting with fantastical beasts. It is also a story of political intrigue, war, and hard lessons learned. I was quite fascinated that the prophecy that all were looking to be fulfilled, and the one who fulfilled the prophecy was not believed. It certainly mirrors our spiritual culture today and of our pasts.

I look forward to more of this fantasy line with deep truths and hard lessons played out in a world different than our own.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

What a lovely story. WayFarer is the second title in an epic fantasy series which was published a few years back, featuring different human races and cultures alongside mythical creatures like winged horses.

In the style of the masterpieces of the genre there is a battle, prophecies, love and betrayal. The central themes are about forgiveness and grace. When Elcon a young King rejects the DawnKing, the promised saviour of his people, and tries to work things out his own way, and in doing so nearly brings about the downfall of his Kingdom.

The plot is compelling, though ends up bittersweet, and the allegorical elements worked well in the story. Without the feeling that one was being clobbered over the head with them. Some passages were especially memorable such as

"Mercy cannot be earned by might, nor can it be won by guile. It must be received in the same way a child takes a crust of bread from a parent’s hand."

Its been nearly five years since this book was released , and news came recently that the third book is due out (finally) in October. I want it like, now! Recommended for all lovers of inspirational fantasy featuring imaginative worlds.

WayFarer picks up where DawnSinger left off, right after Shae sacrifices herself to save Faeraven. Now, we follow Elcon, Shae’s brother, as he banishes the DawnKing and plunges his country into chaos.

Once again, the descriptions were beautiful and well-written. The world came alive before my eyes and grew as we explored not only the Kindren world but also the world of the Elder. The conflict between the two races served as an interesting undertone to the overall story, as the characters also fought against Frear, the villain of the previous novel.

The overall plot was good, but the story felt a little rushed. It would have done better if it had been fleshed out more, allowing the plot and the characters room to breathe. Because of this, the message of the story fell a little flat.

Not that I’m saying the book was bad in any way. It was still an enjoyable read, just like the first book, and was very well developed, world-wise.

NOTE: I received a copy of the book from the author through Prism Book Tours for review purposes only. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Having really enjoyed the first book in the series, I was looking forward to Wayfarer. A little surprising, this novel is related to the first but not really a sequel. Each boom can be read as a standalone. This works well though, because it proves there is more story to be told in this world.

Wayfarer drew out a wide range of emotions from me. I was very frustrated with the character’s choices and ultimately the consequences of those choices. I think Janalyn Voigt is a great author and she has written a really compelling Christian Fantasy. She has written some intriguing characters and has no problem shocking her readers.

Wayfarer is filled with familiar and new characters and creatures. It’s a lovely epic fantasy and I definitely recommend checking it out.

I loved the first book of the series, and I expected this one to be a sequel. It sort of is…but not really. Both books are stand alone, though related. The quest of the The DawnSinger has been fulfilled—only the person who should be the most grateful, Elcon, the new King, can’t accept this DawnKing who seems nothing like a savior should be. Elcon banishes the youthful, obviously part Elder DawnKing and proceeds to make a disaster of his life and his kingdom.

I admit that I had mixed feelings about this book, and even as I eagerly anticipate the third installment in the Tales of Faerhaven, I come back to think about this story. I read it weeks ago, but struggled with what to share about it. The story was like watching your best friend do everything possible to sabotage any good thing that could happen to himself or anyone else around him. I experienced a huge range of emotions during this journey, which is what any good author wants to draw from her readers.

Elcon managed to drive a deeper wedge between his kingdom and that of the Elders, a people of different race by falling in love with the princess and marrying her, after forsaking the woman he was expected to marry. This wouldn’t normally be a bad thing, except that he managed to make a mess of it. Voigt doesn’t mind making her readers fall for characters and then pulling the rug out from under us.

WayFarer is filled with both familiar and strange but compelling characters and creatures, a story that readers of epic fantasy will find satisfying, yet wanting more. I miss Kai and Shae, yet I have a feeling they’re still there. A very good read.

In Wayfarer, book two in Janalyn Voigt’s Tales of Faeraven, Elderland is on the brink of civil war and Elcon, the young ruler, must try to rally support against the forces of the evil traitor, Freaer. Against the advice of trusted guardians, including Kai, he rejects an alliance with Emmerich, the ‘DawnKing’ of prophecy freed in the first book in this series. In the midst of it all, he finds love in the form of the beautiful foreign princess Aewen. A union between them pushes many of his allies away, however, bringing the possibility of war even closer. Through much sorrow and triumph, Elcon learns about the true meaning of forgiveness and grace. The author writes in a truly lyrical and lovely style, weaving ancient folklore and mystic traditions quite seamlessly into the saga that unfolds. This is epic fantasy at its finest. The Tales of Faeraven deserve a place alongside Tolkien and Lewis in any library

I received the suspenseful, awesome, romantic, highly recommended, captivating characters, fantasy story Wayfarer by Janalyn Voigt free from Goodreads.
Wayfarer is the second book in the Tales of Faeraven trilogy and begins with Kai bringing the prophesied deliverer, DawnKing, to Lof Shraen Elcon (Lof Shraen means high king). Elcon does not believe Emmerich is the DawnKing and banishes him from his kingdom. Elcon is visiting other kingdoms to try to make peace and finds himself falling in love with a princess who is already betrothed. Elcon's decisions lead him to wonder if he can ever unite his kingdom and Faeraven.
Read the highly recommended engaging, fantasy filled, well written Wayfarer by Janalyn Voigt.

The author seems to be aiming at readers of Feist's Empire series, but is wide of the mark. The story is rushed, with a sad lack of description of events, characters or settings. It is truly a shame, because at times there are glimpses here of a great political-action-fantasy adventure. Sadly, despite those glimpses, I could not in honesty recommend this book.
