Mr Pink-Whistle is a little fat man with pointed brownie ears and large green eyes; but really he is neither human nor brownie. Until Mr Pink-Whistle decided to use his special talent of making himself invisible, his only friend was his cat, Sooty. But things have now changed.
Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
What a lovely little book this was. I had forgotten how wholesome Blyton's books could be, with the simple morals and lessons on honesty, truthfulness, and courage.
Mr pinkwhistle is a half brownie half man and can make himself invisable if he wants to!In the story his charecter is a very nice man always putting things right around the world1 i enjoyed the book very much and i don't mind reading it over and over again!!!!!
Flocks of invisible hens and invisible geese pecking multiple people all over their body cannot be satisfactorily simulated by one person. The logistics just don’t work. And I’m also highly suspicious about finger jobs being mistaken for beaks but I’ll leave that for now.
“Taking care” of baby dolls does not qualify kids to take care of actual live babies, but more than that I find two single-digit year olds longing for babies of their own just a little creepy. I realize this book was written more than half a century ago, but I still went away from it shivering.
When you read this as a kid at a more innocent age.. there seems to be lil wrong with a (creepy) half brownie-half human man who peeps into people's houses...hanging around kids... just saying.. I miss those innocent times.. some I could read like that. And most I just couldn't..
One of Enid Blytons stories, written 70 years ago. Set in England 1940’s 50’s. A bit of old-fashioned fun. Wouldn’t be published now days.. little bit of creepiness, all in innocence of course.
Sooty does some magic of her own in this one, besides showcasing her culinary skills. Mr Pink-Whistle is, as usual, ever-willing to help those in trouble, including Sooty’s friends.
