Trapped by the same confinement spell as her mother, Irene is a young slave girl willing to do anything to free herself from a malicious witch’s control. The horrible spell confines Irene to Sora’s isolated cabin, the hideous witch making the girl carry out her every whim and tedious chores. Finally, the day comes, the day Irene has dreamt of for years, but the messengers of this most happy news is not what Irene had expected. Prince Alec and the king’s most loyal advisor, Alden, have come to Sora for help bringing with them the opportunity for Irene to escape Sora’s clutches. Needing a curing potion for King Launder, Sora gives Irene a golden necklace that will temporarily lift her confinement spell and allow Irene to venture into the great unknown and retrieve the ingredients for his elixir.
With her faithful cat companion, Conner, and Prince Alec, Irene begins her journey into the world to gather the rare ingredients such as the magical Black Lilac, Red Raven feather, and Dragon Turtle tear, but the task is much more treacherous than they could have ever imagined. Irene is given seven days to complete her mission and return before the golden necklace detaches from her neck and the spell is once again in place. With nefarious bandits on their tail and mysterious beast tamers trying to detour their plans, Irene and her friends must pull together if they ever hope to save the king.
Along the way, they meet a cast of allies such as a silver fox called Archer and a wayward warrior from the northern lands named Aliana. With the help of her new comrades, Irene is able to succeed and return to Sora’s cabin where the witch and Alden’s true intentions are soon revealed, but by then it is too late. Now, Irene must put a stop to the evil plan that she helped to put into motion not only for her sake, but for the future of the entire kingdom.
Irene is a young woman, trapped working as a slave girl for an old witch who has cast a confinement spell on her to prevent her from leaving the house.
One day the prince and an advisor come to the witch's house looking for a healing potion for the king who is sick. Agreeing to make the potion, the witch sends Irene out into the woods to collect three ingredients for the healing potion, giving her a necklace that releases her from the confinement spell for 7 days.
Leaving the witch's house for the first time ever, Irene runs into the prince who says he will accompany her on her journey.
From then on Irene has to deal with faeries, talking animals, bandits, and all other kind of problems in her quest to find the three ingredients. Trouble is that collecting ingredients isn't half of her troubles when the prince is taken from her, and spells are cast to change reality!
This book was really good, there were a few selling mistakes and grammatical errors, some of which were quite humorous ('she awoke to find somebody sh*tting in front of her' - I think she meant sitting!), but it was actually a really enjoyable read. You could even call it a sort of modern day cinderella. A real fairy tale!
The only problem was that the book has no ending! Right at the end of the text, when Irene and the prince are trying to work out how to find something, to reverse a spell, and Irene is having doubts (Sorry, trying not to give too much away!) the book just ends! Think there must be at least two chapters or even more missing! So dissapointing cause I was really enjoying it too!

I loved the story line and plot but I felt it was rushed. Some reviews are saying it's "fairy tale" format. I really don't know what that means, either way, this book could be great if developed a little more. I downloaded it for my kindle and didn't realize that it was only 93 pages. It felt like the author was starting to give details then abrubly stop and change scene. Like she couldn't decide if she want to tell the reader about the charater now or later. The story was fast and kept the reader interested, which is what I liked about it. I would like to see more from this series and author. Hopefully the next book is longer...
This was a really good fantasy story. It read like a fairy tale. Imaginative, fast-paced and entertaining. The author cleverly wove layers and complexity into the plot. The characters themselves are under-developed, as is often common in fantasy and fairy tales.
