Tate Pack #3

A Very Tate Christmas

Rate this book
Tommy Wilkins has always loved Christmas. Not just because he loves to dress up as a very naughty elf, but because it seemed as if Christmas was the time of year when everyone was happy and went out of their way to make others happy. So with that thought in mind, Tommy sets out to make this Christmas, the best Christmas that the Tate pack has ever had. But it seems as if one thing after another goes wrong. First, there’s no Santa Clause in the decorations and Tommy has to…bribe…Ton into agreeing to play Santa. Then Richard sprains his ankle practicing a dance for the big Christmas show. Michael’s fingers are broken when he goes to help Richard and now he can’t sign the words to the Christmas carols. And Alex loses his voice and won’t be able to sing. Tommy really wanted to give the Tate triplets a fabulous first Christmas, but it seems like all the forces of the Earth are plotting against him and he’s just about to throw in the fabulous bejeweled rainbow towel when Calvin, one of the cowboy pack members, shows up with his mate. His very abused, very skittish, very deprived mate, Maurice. Now Tommy has to make sure that Christmas happens for the pack because Maurice needs to learn how truly loving and accepting, the Tate pack family really is.

Vicktor Alexander “Vic” wrote his first story at the age of 10 about his youngest sister and her destruction of the world…with her breath.  Much to his youngest sister’s dismay the story was a hit and became the first story of a series all dealing with the planets that were destroyed by his siblings and their strange quirks and body odors. Vic now enjoys writing about shifters, humanoids, cowboys, firemen, rent boys, fairies, elves, dancers, doctors, Doms, Subs, and anything else that catches his fancy, all sexy men falling in love with each other and having lots of naughty, dirty, man-on-man sex.  Author of the best-selling series, The Tate Pack, Vic is a huge fan of the “happily-ever-after” ending. But while his characters all ride off into the proverbial sunset, all sexually satisfied and in love, they all bear the scars of fighting for that love, just like in real life. Out and proud, Vic does not believe that love only comes in one form, one race, one gender and that not only is gender fluid, by sexuality as well.  Vic loves to make people laugh and when he’s not writing, or rather, procrastinating in writing, he’s reading, playing the Sims 3, hanging out with his very supportive adopted family, talking to his adopted daughter, whom he affectionately calls "Chipmunk", seeking the man or men who can handle his crazy, stressful, soap opera-esque life and being distracted from his writing by drooling over pictures of John Barrowman, Scott Hoying, Charlie David and Shemar Moore.

Vic, you know I love you, hon, but I know you rushed this story out for Christmas, and it shows. There are several errors in this story (the wrong character's name used in a few places, some grammatical errors, some continuity errors, etc.) that threw me out of the story briefly each time I ran across one. Because of this, it's really 3.5 stars from me, but I rounded up because I truly enjoyed the characters and message otherwise. (I'm happy to do what I can to beta/proofread for you any time you want, too.)

It is told from the POV of the various Tate Pack cowboys' mates. The only concern with this is that we haven't met several of these characters yet and do not understand all of the references made because their books--Unassumed, Impossible, and Untouchable--aren't completely written yet; they're mostly still in Vic's head. However, we are given enough insight into their backstories to understand their motivations sufficient to appreciate this piece. (Though this does engender lots of questions about those stories.)

Those points aside, I love the theme of this piece, which is the meaning of family and what it means to have a true family. Some of us are born into a true family, but some of us must find it and/or make it for ourselves.

There's also a special note from Vic at the end of the story that tells the reader how truly personal and meaningful this story is for him. Those closest to him will know the truth of this message and how heartfelt it is. For those who don't know Vic that well, if you won't take my word for it, take his.

I usually hate it when an author contradicts one book with another, however, in this story I understand by V.A. changed only the Alpha pair having a mental link to every set of mates being able to think to each other... and it's both cute and heartfelt. The book jumps around a bit, so you have to follow it carefully to keep track of what's going on but the end is wonderfully, Christmas-mirrically, sappy.

Vicktor Alexander is getting better and better!

What this story really is about? Vicktor says it the best in the afterword:
"[F]amily is not always the one that we are born into. Family is the sum total of the people who love and support you, encourage you, chastise you in love to see you become a better person. They are the ones who accept you flaws and all and never once ask that you try to become their ideal of perfect, but that you only become the perfect version of yourself."

In this story we get to see events develop through the Tate pack men's mates eyes. And we get to know a lot of new characters, that were mentioned in passing in the second installment "Inconceivable". They are wonderful characters, that only hint on the struggles they have had in their lives and have yet to overcome. I really can't wait to know more about them!
What I liked best was that the story concentrated on what was important, and not the petty things (all the rehearsals, for example). Oh, and I loved the quotes used throughout the story. :)
There were small problems with continuity (with "Inconceivable"), but it doesn't retract from the enjoyment of this story in the least.

Overall, this book is the teaser of the year! I so want to know more about those new characters - where do they come from, how they are coping with the difficulties in their lives and how will they get their Happy Ever After?
And needless to say - I absolutely loved it! (Can you tell I'm biased? ;) )

spent a bit of the book trying to figure out what the pinche 'santa clause' was and why it was relevant to anything before i clued in that maybe it was just a typo & there was no actual missing 'clause' but rather there was nobody to act as santa CLAUS. unfortunately it was the other editing flubs that made me zero in on this probability. editing errors piss me off, especially in holiday-themed books, since these holidays come every freaking year at the same freaking time, so one has all freaking year to prepare. somebody spank the copy editor.

now, i do imagine it is probably difficult to make a holiday-centric book *great*, i'd guess b/c the author is so focused on trying to stay in touch w/the jolly/scary/lovey theme that plot & characters suffer. that said (written), this wasn't a bad book, but it did get a bit lost among the multitude of other holiday books. though those books were almost all similarly rushed. but it was a sweet little peek into the lives of all the tate series characters.

I loved this book! It was hilarious and sexy and I loved being able to see the events unfold from the point of view of the different mates. I was a little upset that it seemed as if we were coming in on the tail end of every conversation, not really knowing what was going on (like who are the kids that Alex is so concerned about?) but I realized that that is part of Mr. Alexander's brilliance, I know that I rushed to finish this book so I could hurry up and start Unassumed. Well done Mr. Alexander. Well done.

I loved this. It was a gift from my fav author and big brother. So it was even more special to me. His words reading them and knowing he has everything in his heart to be great makes this christmas one of the best. I give this story a five star because it is well written and because I love the Tate Pack.

~Hugs and winks to her big brother~ What is up with the rest of the tate pack books and hmm The cowboy's firemen I think? Looking forward to reading more from you.

Yes, I read this in July. But I wanted to see where the Tate pack was going. I so wish this had been longer (and that proofing had been a bit more careful) because I loved the idea. I really enjoy these characters, and our introduction to Maurice is just so sad. His story is going to be difficult to read, you can already see, but we know it ends happy because he's spending Christmas with the pack. A lovely story.

Aww, what a sweet, short story. I loved how the family came together to welcome the newest member. I so enjoy this series since all of them talk about acceptance of a person for their inside no matter what the outside might be. The love is for the person as they are:)
