When Evie Parker meets Lucas Spencer she begins to feel hope again. Lately she's been going through life in a fog and Lucas is all about teaching her how to have fun again. For the first time since the accident she knows what it means to be happy.
So who cares if Lucas is a little odd. It isn't that strange that she's never met his parents, or that teachers never seem to notice when he's late for class. Evie tries not to care, but on top of all his peculiar behavior she's been feeling kind of sick lately-- ever since she met Lucas actually.
When Lucas decides it is time to come clean with all his secrets Evie has to make some hard decisions.
Thank you, T.J. Dell, for giving me a chance to read your book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It looks like I gave the book 4 stars...but I say it's a 4.5-star book. Dang couldn't put a half a star on Goodreads/Amazon. Wish they would already give that option already. Is it January yet because I want to read Volume 2 and find out what happens next to Lucas and Evie. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves cliffhangers, paranormal romance and loves reading YA.
First off I will say I enjoyed the story. I like the characters and have always loved the 'bonded love' plot. But it was so short! I wasn't keeping an eye on the percentage as I went and suddenly the screen wouldn't go forward anymore. I have to say I'm glad I picked this up when it was free because I might be disappointed even more by the length if I had to pay for it. I guess if a main complaint is the length it isnt much of a criticism :) here's hoping the second book is much longer...
Evie isnt really loving life right now. After her parents died and she moved in with her grandma, she's just been moving minute by minute, but not really living. When she meets Lucas, though she feels alive. But Lucas has a secret. A big secret. One that may cost Evie her life of he doesn't clue Evie on soon...
I enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would. At first it was a bit rough but then I really got into the story and now I need to know what happens after that bit of a cliffhanger.
Reactions: After having regaled myself with "Her best friend's brother" by T.J Dell, I wanted to read her other books. I was interested in "Whispers in the woods" because the story was totally different from the first novel. The theme seemed more secret, more supernatural and it intrigued me.
I liked this book even if the story is quite short. Throughout the pages, I made assumptions about Lucas. I expected the conversation rejected, time afyer time, by Evie so impatiently ... I think it was the effect intended by the author. Well done!
I was totally blown away by the final outcome! So, by learning the truth about Lucas, I found the revelation too adorable. There was a fragile, engaging and romantic side to Lucas that made me melt. Even if I knew the distance and the barriers erected by Evie were necessary to protect herself and accept the situation, I was also sorry for the young man.
Therefore, at the end of the book, I was disappointed to learn that this novel was published in December 2011 and that I was going to have to wait a long time to know the further adventures of Lucas and 'Evie. I hope the next book will be longer for the chance to spend more time with these two characters. And today, when I wanted to review this novel, I've found the second volume... Someone will spend a great time reading this sunday! Can't wait...
Too bad that version is only available on Kindle, even if the price is very affordable, it will prevent some of you to discover an adorable story, well writen, with an unexpected ending ! See you soon for the review of « Whispers in the woods vol 2 ».
I’d like to start off by saying that I’ve enjoyed this book for the most part. But I was put off by the dialogues and general personalities of the main characters. Evie didn’t seem to have any character at all other than the fact that she likes to be alone and that she couldn’t care less if her grandmother dislikes her very existence. Speaking of her grandmother…what grandmother? I keep thinking that she was nothing but a figment of Evie’s imagination. She often talked of her but she didn’t seem to be around. Lucas, the love interest, gets marks off for declaring he loves her in a span of a week or two, give or take. This book is short but there’s a sequel and where the author ended this…uhm…why? If you’ve never liked co-dependent relationships in a book, then STAY AWAY. They literally get the worst case of the stomach flu when they’re apart – well, mostly on Evie’s part. Over all, this is another cookie cutter YA paranormal romance, I’m still undecided on whether or not I'm willing to spend the money on the next “volume”.
I've said this before about Dell's books but it's especially true in this case - this is way beyond what I usually choose to read. I am not a fantasy or romance reader (except Dell is changing my mind). I've tried before but, with the exception of the Twilight books (which I LOVED), I don't think I ever completed a fantasy book before. Whispers caught my attention from the very beginning and kept me hooked until the end. What a cliff hanger! You'll be glad Vol II is already available. The wait was awful! LOL. In all seriousness, I can't compare this book to others of it's genre because I'm just not familiar with them. But for me this was a fresh story with really interesting characters. The book is a bit short so the ending will catch you by surprise! It's a great read.
I loved the voice of Evie, even though she seemed petulant and just plain stubborn most of the time (a little cold even - maybe she inherited it from her Gran?) I did enjoy the story line and the whole idea of two people bonding (I am a romantic that way) and so they could never again be apart from each other. It was a concept I have not read before, and I loved it. The story kept me interested enough to find out how it ends.
Okay, I liked this book - a little short but still a good read. One thing, I liked is that Evie isn't some pushover head in the cloud teenager. She is very logical. Good cliffhanger at the end, which means I would probably buy book 2.
Apparently I only gave this book 3 stars on my Kindle, I'm confused as to why I did that so I'm going to have to re-read this trilogy again to see what was wrong with it so I can possibly change the rating on here and on my kindle.
i like this book not love it because its confusing at times but still the story line drags you in but it is a shame that the books are so short and always end with TO BE CONTIUNED ....
Didn't realize this was a novel for teens until halfway through. Great little story with strongly defined characters. Gotta love all the little quirks the author put in there.
