Rate this book
This omnibus edition contains the first two novels in the Out of Time Series: Out of Time & When the Walls Fell.

BOOK 1: OUT OF TIME
Professor Simon Cross has spent his life searching for evidence of vampires and avoiding emotional entanglements. When a mysterious accident transports Simon and his new assistant, Elizabeth West, back in time, Simon finally finds both the proof that he's been looking for, and the romance that he hasn't.

In 1920s Manhattan, they find that are more than mobsters vying for power in the city's speakeasies. Will Simon and Elizabeth's developing relationship survive the vampires' teeth? Will they survive to make it back? Or will they be forever out of time?

BOOK 2: WHEN THE WALLS FELL
Professor Simon Cross and his assistant Elizabeth West have returned from their accidental journey into the past and are adjusting to their new life together as a couple. But an unwanted visit from the Council for Temporal Studies could change everything.

A murder in the past is changing the future, and if the killing isn't stopped, Simon Cross might never be born.

When they arrive in 1906 San Francisco, Elizabeth and Simon have no idea who wants Victor Graham dead or how it will happen. With the earthquake that leveled most of the city just days away, the race to save Graham thrusts them into a complex mystery of jealousy and revenge where murder might be the least of their worries.

Out of Time and When the Walls Fell are time travel adventures filled with suspense, mystery, romance and a dash of the paranormal.

I loved the first book, as I've been a fan of time travel romances since Jude Deveraux's A Knight In Shining Armor, and these two opposite personalities thrown into prohibition-era New York was fascinating and fun. I just read the sequel, When The Walls Fell (not my favorite title for the subject matter...), I read it in one sitting last night and was mesmerized! I am a native San Franciscan, and a survivor of my first ever quake, the 1989 Loma Prieta, and I was downtown in the financial district, twenty floors up in a high rise and pregnant with my daughter at the time, so it was very interesting to experience the famous 1906 quake from the view point of Elizabeth and Simon and the friends they made during the preceding week. The references to Sherlock Holmes and the Back To The Future trilogy were priceless! Also, Elizabeth's apt description of the experience of wearing a corset was another favorite. The only issues I have would be the grammatical errors toward the middle of the book, and of course, the engagement ring Simon secretly purchased for Elizabeth, yet there is no proposal in this book - I can only assume it will be in the third book of this trilogy. I've read reviews here where people seem to have gotten the first two books for free on their Kindles, whereas I paid for both of mine on the Kindle app of my iPad (which somehow doesn't seem fair). All in all, a great ride in both books (I'm an Anglophile, so I naturally love Simon's character), and highly recommended. I read a sample from the third book, Fragments, which takes place during a trip to Simon's childhood home near London, and I look forward to reading it and finding out about the proposal!

What an exciting story. I enjoyed the first book up until the vampire appeared. But the author didn't stay with the usually biting sort rather just another bad guy. Not that bad guys are okay, just more tolerable than vampires, for me.

The time travel gave an excuse to enjoy another time to its fullest and most ugly. The flapper days weren't all glitz and glamour. The author did bring in the mob and up coming depression. And through it all is a budding romance. Great story! Loved the characters, plot, everything!

Then, once the first book was finished I couldn't stop reading until I finished book two, also. I think book two was even better. Maybe because it takes place in the days leading up to the big San Francisco Earthquake. The main characters have a mission. They must achieve their goals before the quake hits, even though they are going through a lovers' quarrel that has them separated at the beginning. Add figuring out who the bad guy is and doing it within days makes this a quick read.

Sad part? It's done. Wish I had book three. I want to see what happens to our MCs.

Enjoyed this story and its many turns. It was a bit melodramatic at times but it was still a worthwhile read. I might even be willing to purchase the sequel.
