TRIGGER WARNING: This book contains marital rape.

This started off kind of like Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde, or Sunshine by Robin McKinley - but not nearly as interesting or well-written - just clichés everywhere.
Then it took a weird turn into Pretty woman without the whole being a prostitute thing - Gideon, the vampire, just treats Kay, the werewolf, to masseuses, manicures, shopping trips, all the while romancing her with red roses everywhere she goes. To be honest, it was just weird because there was zero chemistry between the two.
And there was always this constant talk about money... Like, "You must be rich", "I hope you're rich", "Don't worry I'm rich" - we get it, he has money. Stop talking about how much everything costs, and the brand of every item she buys with his money. It just... cheapens everything. As if that weren't enough there's this passage:
"Hence the dinner dates, the nights at the opera, the tour of the city, the bouquets of flowers. She let out a long shuddering sigh with the realization that it was time to pay the piper."
UGH!

Then he gets angry because she didn't tell him she was a virgin but decides not to leave her unsatisfied "when the damage was already done". Did you know you became damaged once you lost your virginity? I, for one, did not.

The characters, in general, were pretty two dimensional and made decisions that rendered them too stupid to live, the story was predictable, but even so there was one problematic aspect of it that kept bothering me: the fetishization of Kay's Native American heritage. There are plenty of odd turns since the beginning, with her boss making supposedly witty remarks about her "working her Indian magic" and her best friend telling her they should go out because she's sure to like "the fire water". Now, in real life, I get you forcing yourself to shut up at the boss's stupid remark, but your best friend?! No! You make it plain that is not acceptable. Then Gideon also jokes he's "always had a thing for Indians" and instead of punching him in the dick she goes,"You're just saying that."
LOL ARE YOU SERIOUS

And then there was the whole domestic abuse between her parents that was sickening to the nth degree. Add to that her forced marriage to the villain and subsequent rape...Just... no.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Desire The Night was a audiobook that I was highly looking forward to. I will be honest in that I adore Amanda Ashley as she writes highly atmospheric paranormal romance. This was the perfect listen for Halloween and I adored some elements to this story. The hero is a alphamellow, there is a villain of a mix of power hungry wolves and a witch, and then we have a forbidden theme to the romance. I absolutely adored the way that the plot developed in the story and there is a LOT that is packed into this story and I don't want to reveal to much to reveal too much of the plot here. I will say that my one major frustration with the story was the heroine. I have to say that she was extremely annoying. I just wanted to DNF this book and I almost did. In the first half I really liked her with the hero, I thought that they have a strong connection, the steam was solid and I felt like it was going to a good place. However the minute she gets back to her pack and culture, I just wanted to shake my head at her. She was so weak in the face of her father and fiancee. She just wouldn't stand up for herself at all and I just couldn't stand her. I have read plenty of heroines that aren't super strong in the traditional sense, or even doormat heroines. But this heroine was such a coward and just wouldn't say no. I mean she understood her pack, her father and their laws. So why again did she return to them when it was obvious she knew what would happen but just walks right into it. I just couldn't understand her character much and just about ruined the story for me. If it wasn't for the hero and having the desire to see him have his HEA, I wouldn't have stuck with the story.

Desire The Night was a book that I just couldn’t put down.

Gideon is a vampire that is over three hundred and sixty years old, but that doesn’t stop him from being bested by an evil witch named Verah. She keeps him in her basement tied with silver chains and only gives him enough blood to keep him alive after finding a spell that required vampire blood. His blood allows her to stay young but she also starts selling his blood and sometimes she gets females for payment.

That’s when Kay comes in the picture. She is at a club one night when a man drugs her drink and she passes out. She wakes up locked up with Gideon. Imagine their surprise when they find out what each other is. They both believed the other didn’t exist. They hatch up a plan that on the next full moon when Kay turns into her wolf they will escape.

This book was so exciting. Just when I thought that everything was going to work out for Gideon and Kay – something happens. This story really kept me on my toes, always wondering what was going to happen next and I started to wonder if they would ever be together.

I completely understood the relationship that Kay had with her father. Mine wasn’t an alpha werewolf, and I thank God for that. My dad always wanted sons instead of daughters and in the story Kay hopes that her father loves her more and wants her to be happy with the man she loves instead of having to put the pack first and marrying the guy her father thinks of as a son. To her dismay, her father puts the pack first. I understand how she feels. I could never do anything to satisfy my father either.

So Gideon and Kay had their work cut out for them. Not only did they have to figure out how to make a relationship between a vampire and werewolf work but they have to deal with Verah, Victor, the guy Kay’s engaged to, and her father. Will they find a way to be together?

This is a great paranormal love story that mainly deals with two people finding out how to be together. I enjoyed the way that the book was written. There wasn’t a feeling of anything being left out and it had a great ending to a beautiful story. Just when I thought that nothing was going to work out, I was pleasantly surprised.

One of the worst books I have ever read. The story was boring and it repeated itself throughout the entire book I believe this book doesn't deserved to be even rated but I like the cover so I will give it some points

This book takes off running from the very beginning. Amanda Ashley does not waste any time getting straight to the good stuff. I swear so much happens in this book it’s like two or three books in one. There are no really big epic battles but there is plenty of turmoil and strife to keep you entertained from beginning to end.

Gideon and Kay find each other early on in the book and fall into their romance pretty quickly; however, it doesn’t feel like insta-love. These two go through a lot together in a short period of time which makes it feel like a true meaningful romance has occurred, if just a bit expedited due to both of their captures and then subsequently being hunted by different factions. I love how these two were together. Gideon was supportive of her and was willing to put himself in danger to make sure the Kiya would be ok. He always came to her rescue but also understood that there were just some decisions that she has to make for herself. Kiya was the same with Gideon; she was fiercely protective of him and valued his opinion. He is the most important thing in her world, so important that she is willing to disobey her Alpha who also is her father to be with him. This causes a great deal of trouble for both Kiya and Gideon.

The witch that took Gideon will stop at nothing to get him back, including kidnap Kiya to force Gideon into her servitude again. Kiya is also “engaged to be engaged” by the jacka$$ son of the neighboring Pack. He was such a complete douche there is no way you wanted Kiya in his clutches. She is being forced into the marriage by her father, because he wants a solid alliance with that pack and he does not care what Kiya wants. Kiya’s father was such a good villain! I could not stand him; I wanted to kick him in the dingaling so many times. His forcing of Kiya into marriage causes a great deal of the strife in this book. As the witch is hunting Kiya so are her father and her future husband causing Gideon and Kiya to take some drastic measures.

This book takes us on a roller coaster ride of action and emotion. It is fast paced and a delight to read. By the time I was halfway through the book, I couldn’t believe I was only half way through, so much had happened already and I couldn’t imagine what else we would be in store for. Ms. Ashley did not disappoint and plenty happened in the second half keeping the rollercoaster going. Even with all of the conflict going on we still got a solid romance out of Gideon and Kiya, which thrived throughout the book. I also really liked the ending, I thought it was appropriate and the right choice.

I received this book from Kensington for an honest review. Gideon a vampire had been locked up by a witch in order for her to use his blood to keep her young. She keeps him supplied with girls to keep him from dying. He tries his best to keep from feeding from them but he cant control his self. The witch captures Kay and locks her in with Gideon not realizing Kay is different from the other girls. She is part werewolf. As they make their escape together they try to hide from the witch who doesn't want to release Gideon, to Kay's father who like to run her life. As they are hiding away they fight the attraction between them cause after all a vampire and were shouldn't be together.

Gideon is an amazing vampire. One of my favorites I have ever read about. He is strong, sexy and tries to give Kay everything she may need. Kay is a female character you will love as well. She isn't one to stand back but tries her best to help. All she wants is to live her life away from the pack and to live it on her turns. Well that was before she met Gideon after meeting him she may want more to add to her life. The other characters help keep the story flowing and leave their on mark.

This is the first book I have ever read by Amanda Ashley but it sure won't be the last. I love the love story as she writes it so well. You feel an instant connection to Gideon and Kay and keep rooting them on the whole book. They endure it all and fight to be together and fight to defeat evil. It is has lot's of action as they battle the witch and battle different weres. The book never slows down and keeps a strong hold on to you. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful paranormal romance with a great story line. I will be picking up more of her books to read.

I have said it before and I will say it again, Amanda Ashley writes the best vampire romance! I have always enjoyed her books. One of the main reasons her books are so enjoyable, is because she takes us back to the "true vampire romance" with not a sparkly vampire in sight.

Gideon has been held captive by an evil witch who uses his blood for money, youth and beauty. The witch gives him females to feed off of, but he fights it because Gideon is not evil. He doesn't want to hurt these women even though he knows there is no chance for escape.

When the witch captures Kay, she is thrown into the cage with Gideon. When Gideon tastes her blood he can tell she is not human. Kay is half wolf and half human. Every full moon she transforms and becomes a predatory wolf that refuses to kill humans. She has been living on her own away from her pack. Her father is the Alpha, but he is not the normal Alpha we read about because he is far from friendly.

Kay helps Gideon escape his cage and together they go into hiding from the witch and Kay's family. Now they have to hide from a vengeful witch, an angry wolf daddy, and also try to fight their attraction of each other.

Again, author Amanda Ashley will take you on a fun ride and has expanded her paranormal world to include werewolves as well as vampires. With the romance of these two, the sky is the limit on what she will bring to the readers next. I can't wait for another wild adventure from Amanda Ashley!

Amanda Ashley has pulled from all the corners of her imagination to bring readers Desire the Night the latest release in her paranormal romance series, filled with vampires, witches, werewolves and of course romance. Gideon Marquet, a vampire held prisoner by an unscrupulous witch named Vera as a source for her own means, rues the so long ago night he fell captive to her enchantment. Gideon’s existence is one of constant agony by both the bonds that hold him and the unmerciful actions he must resort to for his survival. Kiya Alissano, working as a veterinarian’s assistant also holds magic powers of her own, more than just the “gift” of being able to calm her patients at the clinic, either. Kiya, (known as Kay to her friends who are few a far between thanks to her father), is the daughter of a very possessive Clan Leader, who Kay still can’t believe has been persuaded to allow her time away from their family compound to pursue the wish to live among humans. Unbeknownst to Kiya, her thirst for adventure in all things human may prove to be her downfall and bring her even closer to the thirst of one who is not all human. You will be surprised how fast the pages turn, once you pick it up you will not want to put it down!

***MINOR SPOILERS ***
This book is one of several books featuring vampires, but I believe it can be read independently as I did not notice any references to characters from other books. The book was a 2013 finalist in the Colorado Romance Writers Paranormal Category awards.
If this were a serial killer movie, there are a few points where you would be yelling “don’t go in the house”. But, of course, in this book, there are a few times when the female main character, Kiya/Kay does the equivalent anyway. Both Kay and Gideon seem more like high school kids that are not very smart than adults, though Kay is fairly young.
Gideon is about 387 years old with about 360 of them being a vampire. He is from France originally but has moved around Europe and the United States. He did not have any vampire friends, and truthfully, it did not seem like he had any friends at all. You would think that he would have allies, both vampire and other, but throughout the story, he and Kay stumble around on their own.
When you find out more about Gideon’s history, he reveals to Kay that when he first became a vampire he killed many people. He almost killed his own father but was stopped. He uses his power of mind control to get people to submit to him sucking their blood. At one point, he is in an angry mood and attacks a stranger and makes the feeding painful. Afterward, he wipes the memories of his victims. For years, he was selfish and a playboy.
The story begins with Gideon being held in a cage by a witch, Velah, who wants him for his blood. It rejuvenates her and turns her from a very old woman into a seemingly young one. She also sells some of his blood to others for a premium price. He has been there for 3 years and has killed several people who have been thrown in the cage as food. When Kay is thrown into his cage, she fights back. He finds out she is a werewolf; they devise a plan that, when it is the full moon, she will use her werewolf strength to get them out. It was unclear why she was not strong on other days, but, hey, it is the author’s prerogative to write the story as she would like. In addition, the witch gives Kay food to keep up her strength which is an exception. In the past, she simply let Gideon suck the person dry. It was not explained.
It did not seem as if they developed much of a relationship in the cage, but when they break out, Gideon invites her to stay with him. She accepts. She contacts her job but not her parents to let them know that she is ok. I thought there should have been more relationship development while they were in the cage.
They fairly quickly declare their love for each other. Gideon is rich and wants to romance Kay. He invites personal buyers over to his apartment and Kay has no compunction about spending a fortune on herself.
Kay is of Native American descent and her real name is Kiya. Her use of Kay is not explained. Kay is very young and living on her own for the first time. Given everything that is said about her father, it was out of character for him to allow her to move away for a year. In addition, the story of how her parents met was shared and her father comes across as a good person then but is now a jerk. The reason for the change is not stated. He also is cruel to Kay at several points.
Kay knows that her father wants her to marry the son of the alpha of another pack. She and Gideon decide that she should visit her pack’s compound. They do this with no preparation knowing they are facing a complex situation. Gideon can read minds but does not read the minds of the pack. Kay does not like Victor, her fiancé, so you would think that Gideon would be especially interested in his thoughts. I do not necessarily agree with the ethics of reading the thoughts of others, but if you can do it and you are walking into a fraught situation, you would think that would be the time you would do it.
Victor is a caricature of a villain.
Minor nitpick: Gideon uses modern phrases like “pretty cool, huh?” It seemed a little surprising that he did not have a little bit of an old fashioned vocabulary.
Another nitpick: the book references Gideon going to a mall in Manhattan. There are not any malls in Manhattan, though there are some in other boroughs.
Still another nitpick: Kay refers to her mother as mother and also as mom. She refers to her father as father and dad. It was a careless inconsistency.
A final nitpick (and spoiler): Kay is shot and the bullet makes her pass out for a long time. It happens when she is in her werewolf form when supposedly she is stronger. It seemed inconsistent.
I do not plan to continue reading this author and I do not recommend this book.

Started out good but then it just spiraled out into one ridiculous event after another. In between bouts of crazy, we have Kay eating huge amounts of food...lots of food (was the author hungry by chance when writing this?) I never felt romance between Gideon and Kay. Lots of sex and a need to escape that basement as mentioned in the blurb...but on in the book gets unreal with pretty much everyone being a villain. Kay seems to become stupid and helpless. That was really annoying. All these I love yous but getting kidnapped over and over or walking into the werewolf compound knowing all that was going on just got ludicrous. Boring. I was happy it was over. Don’t recommend

Kay is a werewolf/vet tech. Gideon is a steamy hot vampire. They meet in a dungeon both prisoners of a witch. But they become so much more. Gideon recognizes Kay’s strength even before he knows she is a werewolf. She doesn’t give up and give in like the other women thrown into his cell with him. He quickly finds himself falling in love. Kay knows as the Alpha’s daughter her first duty is to her pack and his demands, but she can’t help falling for Gideon. The story progressed at a moderate pace, but then ended a bit abruptly for me. I did however enjoy reading this book and will continue to read more by this author.

DNF. Horribly stiff, unemotional writing. Zero chemistry between lead characters, and a strange fascination with designer clothes and handbags. Also, if this author has ever set foot in the Black Hills, I'd eat my hat.

Disappointing. Chemistry was not there and supposed feelings towards one another felt very materialistic and shallow. Abhored the father and mother's treatment of their daughter. Witch was comical threatening to turn people into toads.

Book source ~ ARC. My review is voluntary and honest.

Gideon is a couple of hundred years old, a vampire, and he’s being held captive in the basement of an evil witch because his blood keeps her young looking. Vain much? When she tosses Kiya “Kay” Alissano into the cell with him as his next meal, the bitch witch gets more than she bargained for. Kay is the product of a werewolf father and a human mom. While not a full-blood werewolf, she still shifts at the full moon and is wicked strong. With the full moon only a couple days away, she only needs to keep the vampire from killing her and they can both get free.

I started out really loving this story. The part with just Gideon and Kay is great. The part with her dumbass father, the pack, and his dictate for her to marry his chosen one even though she can’t stand the guy is just stupid. The fact that Kay even goes back to the pack is stupid. Everything about the pack is stupid. Also, there’s marital rape. WTF This could have been so much better, but it fell apart because Kay has no spine. Ugh! I’m not interested in any more of this series because of the way this one played out.

You would think after 360 years as a vampire Gideon Marquet would be too clever to fall into a witch’s trap. Now he sits locked in a cage, bound in silver chains, being used as Verah’s own fountain of youth. He had long ago stopped killing humans to feed his need for blood, but since Verah nearly starves him while taking his blood, his hunger is now too great to stop being the monster humans fear.

But his latest dinner offering is quite different from the usual human fare given to him, she is a werewolf. If only he can keep his hunger in check before the next full moon, they might finally have a chance to escape this nightmare.

Kiya Alissano was just going out for a night with her friend, and ends up drugged and then she wakes to find herself being offered as a midnight snack to a hungry vampire. Although they are natural enemies, Kiya and Gideon work together to escape the clutches of the witch, but she is not willing to let her prize go without a fight. Kay and Gideon are on the run as Verah scryes for their location.

When they turn to Kay’s pack for help, they are out of the frying pan and into the fire. The Alpha, Kay’s father, wants her to marry into the neighboring pack, not running around with a vampire.

** Some spoilers here **

This story started off so good. The meeting of Kay and Gideon was interesting and their working together to escape. They are both attracted to each other so they stick together, even after Gideon realizes that the witch cannot locate him (as he is dead) and she is scrying for Kiya. He won’t leave her alone to be found by the witch.

The story begins to lose my interest when decisions are made and things are done that don’t make sense. Gideon decides Kay would be safest surrounded by her own people. Gideon is attracted and intrigued by someone for the first time in a century, and he knows that Kay’s father wants her to marry the son of the adjoining pack Alpha, so why would he think the best place would be with her father? Once she is back under the father’s control, he forces her to marry the other werewolf, who then kidnaps her back to his compound to keep her away from Gideon. Since he is not “invited” onto the compound, Gideon can’t get to her.

So we have a lot of going back and forth between being captured by the witch, the werewolves and begin recovered by Gideon, to the point that after 250 pages, I was losing interest in the story. I did finish it, although there were many things that didn’t make sense in the story, beginning with Gideon giving Kay up to her father who intended to give her to another man. The father is the over the top Alpha with the “do as I say or I will actually kill you” attitude.

I was also very confused with Kay’s parent’s relationship. Her mother is human and she gets pregnant. She won’t have an abortion and Kay’s father decides to marry her against his family’s wishes. That would be great if they seemed more of a love match. Why such an über-Alpha was even slumming with a human is my first question. He seemed so “we are werewolves, we stick to our own.” The mother later indicates that she didn’t know what he was until after her second child, but that she was afraid of him even before they got married. That brings me back to why were they even having sex to begin with, and why did his father (the then Alpha) not kill him for first being with a human and then defying the family by marrying a human. I’m weird this way. I’ll believe someone can change into a werewolf. I’ll work with you on the vampire changing into mist. But the marriage between Kay’s parents, I just couldn’t understand.

If you like Amanda Ashley, I’m sure you’ll like this story. It wasn’t unreadable and it started off real good. She just lost me when the decisions her characters were making just didn’t make sense.

Desire The Night by Amanda Ashley has everything going for it: an amazing title, an awesome cover, and even though it’s YA, it’s a paranormal read! What more could you ask for? Hmm. . . well a lot more.

As I mentioned above, Desire The Night is a YA read – though I didn’t know that when I started reading LOL But, when I got to the first sex scenes I took a step back, thinking the author really rushed over things. AND when I got to a sexxy scene I had been waiting the whole book for, and it was done in a 1950’s fade-to-black thing, I started going off! A rant of WTF am I reading?! made me look this book up and I realized it was a YA read.

Still, I was already so far into the book, I decided to keep on reading and find out what happens at the end But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Kay is an ordinary young woman living out on her own, away from her controlling father and family. But she’s not so ordinary; she’s a werewolf. One night, she goes to club with a friend and a stranger approaches her. After a drink with him, Kay wakes up in a cellar with a man chained to a wall.

She discovers she is to be “food” to the chained man – a vampire named Gideon – who is held captive by a witch named Verah who uses his blood as a youth serum. Verah has no idea Kay is a werewolf, so when they are left alone, Kay and Gideon escape from Verah’s clutches.

In spending time on the run, Kay and Gideon begin to fall in love and they search for a safe haven away from Verah. Kay suggests going to her family, hoping her father will understand their predicament.

That decision is the beginning of the end for her as her father and their misogynistic wolf clan won’t relent on imposing his will on his daughter. Kay’s father wants Kay to forget all about Gideon and marry a fellow werewolf, Victor.

But Victor isn’t who Kay’s father thinks he is. Victor wants to be Alpha and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it means killing Kay’s father.

Kay has her hands full with the problems in her clan and with Verah always hot on her and Gideon’s heels. Will Kay be able to handle everything life is throwing at her and find her Happily Ever After with Gideon?

******

Desire The Night could really use a revamp in editing as there are a lot of information dumps and the action dulls in between places. Plus, I’m not really a fan of vampires and werewolves together – I’ve read too many paranormal reads which state how the vamps can’t stand the scent of werewolves and vice versa LOL

But still, Desire The Night does have some interesting aspects. Just don’t be like me and expect an AMAZING read based on the BEAUTIFUL cover *le sigh*

I guess I really shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. Hmm . . . nah! Even though I’ll be disappointed with a book, at least I got a pretty cover to console me.

After the ups and downs suffered while reading DESIRE THE NIGHT, I’m going to call this an okay read and leave it at that.

This is the first Amanda Ashley book that didn’t set my world on fire and that really saddens me. I never thought I wouldn’t enjoy one of her vampire books, but the vampire/werewolf storyline just didn’t work.

One thing I felt missing was the ‘old, powerful, worldly’ male vampire. Gideon Marquet just wasn’t that dark, brooding vampire that took control and made his presence known that, in my opinion, is the signature of Ashley’s books.

In fact, neither main character really did it for me. Kiya “Kay” Alissano, daughter of alpha pack leader and human mother, seemed too weak and indecisive majority of the time. She hated the pack, her father’s rule, the marriage he forced her into but kept going back, getting captured and going back again because she felt ‘compelled’ too. One work: stupid.

A chunk of the book went to the witch plot. After freeing Gideon from the witch that had kept him locked up for three years, the witch is no targeting Kay in order to find Gideon. By then their love was set and he wasn’t leaving her to face the witch alone. This plot cleans up nicely and sends the focus to Victor’s plan for power.

At the same time, Kay is being forced into a marriage with a neighboring pack master’s son, whom her father has taken a liking for since losing his only heir.

The constant capture and escape is pretty entertaining as Kay is taken by her father, betroth Victor or Victor’s father and then rescued by Gideon.

The death of Kay’s mother brings her home again and into her father and Victor’s clutches. Arranging for her father’s death, Victor threatens her in order to force her to nominate him as her pack’s new alpha.

Not counting on the pack to reject him, Kay kills him as he’s defeating her aunt for the title. This thus puts her as alpha as she shifted without the full moon and spurs a war between Victor’s pack as both Victor and his father are killed.

With her aunt and uncle’s help, and Gideon’s of course, they plan their line of defense and it finally comes down to a challenge.

Kay is way out of her league when facing Diego. When they meet at the full moon, Gideon provokes him and their fight ends in Diego death, saving Kay from the fight.

The new alpha luckily only wants peace, and a treaty is settled upon.

Safe in each other’s arms, Kay now has to decide where she wants to go from her. Keep ruling as alpha with Gideon staying or leave and see the world with Gideon.

Finally choosing the latter, she gives control to her aunt and uncle and with well wishes, she starts on her second honeymoon.

Wow.Umm..well, wow.

First, I'll admit I did NOT know this was YA when I started it. But that's no excuse because honestly I feel like its an insult to young readers to assume they don't/won't find the actions of these characters to be childish and just plain stupid like I did. Talk about redundant! These two people end up in some ridiculous loop where they are repeating the same actions over and over, and expecting different results. I kept thinking that maybe if they didn't spend every waking moment (literally, since he's asleep half the time while she wanders around eating and bored waiting for him to wake up) having badly described sex, then maybe, just maybe they could have figured out a way to handle their problem far sooner! Kiya, the lead character is spineless. At no point does it occur to her to leave the pack and start her own life even after its made painfully obvious that her father doesn't love her and her mother is so broken she isn't worth bothering with. She just does stuff expecting her actions to some how free her from daddy's tyranny. Yet, she's constantly surprised when her flights of rebellion don't work. The writing never makes it clear if she's obeying him out of fear, lack of back bone or if its some wolfy-must-obey-my-alpha thing. It rides the line, which makes this girl someone I perpetually want to either slap or find dead on the next page. Gideon? The weakest vampire I have ever read. He has thrall powers...sometimes. He's stronger than humans...sometimes. Its like anytime a detail this writer previously described didn't fit with her plot, she conveniently wrote it off with some lame excuse.
I gave it two stars simply because its obvious this author COULD write if she had a decent idea and some details given to her. Maybe I should just be crediting her editor though.

I was given Desire the Night for and honest review by Manic Readers

Kiya (Kay) wishes she could be free of her pack obligations but her controlling father has plans to marry her off to a man even worse than him. She convinces her father to allow her a year of freedom away from the pack. When her friend convinces her to go out and live a little everything goes horribly wrong or wonderfully right depending of perspective.

The vampire Gideon has spent three years locked in silver chains and stashed dungeon after being tricked by an evil witch. The witch wants his blood to keep her young and it doesn’t hurt that it is making rich selling to her friends. When Kiya is tossed in the cell to be his next meal he quickly discovers she is no ordinary female and together they contrive a plan of escape.

But freedom for Kiya isn’t freedom at all, she is in-love with her vampire but her father, her betrothed, Victor, and the witch have other plans for the couple and every where they turn someone is there the taker her away and imprison him.

I have read two of Amanda Ashley’s other books and genuinely loved them (I have read them multiple times) so I was excited to read Desire the Night, only to be a bit disappointed that the story was just an ok read. I couldn’t get into the first two chapters, they were too slow but thankfully the further I read the better the story got. The characters are all well written and I could really sense Kiya’s mom’s unhappiness and but I think that the passion between Kiya and Gideon was a bit sedated although you could really see the bond forming between them. Will I ever read this book again? I kind of don’t think so because I just was bored through about thirty percent of it.

This is my first time reading a book by this author. I must say, I'm really impressed and will definitely be reading more by her. One can't go wrong with a book about a vampire, werewolf and witches.
This author draws you in and keeps you captivated while following the love that is unfolding between Kiya and Gideon. They first meet when an old witch, who has been keeping Gideon captive for years so she could drink his blood to stay young and beautiful, brings Kiya home after drugging her, and locking her in the cage where she kept Gideon. Right away, Gideon knew she was different from all the rest that had been brought to him to feed on. They soon realize they have an unusual attraction to each other and devise a plan to escape. Once they do, they continue to fall in love with each other. They even plan to marry, which they do. But, Kiya is promised to another man, an Alpha wolf from another pack that her father arranged. They track down Kiya using the old witch to help. In the process of all this, Kiya's parents are killed, she battles her husband she was forced to marry, to the death and becomes Alpha leader of her pack. With the help of Gideon and the rest, she agrees to battle the Alpha wolf from a pack that wants to take over hers. With only Gideon by her side, he ends up fighting the battle and they win, and they form a truce with the packs new Alpha leader.
During all this, the love they had for each other grew stronger and stronger.
Such a wonderful story and enjoyable read. Now I can't wait to get more books by this author to read.

Though this book was enjoyable I found the constant running around in circles that the storyline followed left me quite dizzy. I enjoyed the characters, Gideon and Kiya but the fact that these two were captured and then escaped about four times to be a bit tiring. I also didn't like that one of main bad characters in this book had an, to put it simply a highly predictable and anticlimactic end. Though "Desire The Night" had its potential and a couple of good characters I feel that the story could have been told just as easily if it had been written In under a hundred pages.

Locked up in a Witch's basement wasn't exactly the sort of thing Gideon had planned for his afterlife. But one foolish mistake led him to this point and there is nothing he can do to change it. This life he is living is well, hell with the random tasty morsel dropped into his cage. That is until Kiya a werewolf is given to him as food.

Kiya isn't your typical werewolf, she is the Alpha's daughter and she never thought her year away from the pack would lead to being confined with a vampire ready to drink her blood. Little do they know they are the key to each others survival. With the full moon on the rise and a building passion they just might have the chance of a lifetime to save more than one innocent life and the perfect chance at love!

Wow, it usually doesn't take me almost a month to read just one book. In my defense... I've been pretty busy. Because of everything going on I may not have been in the "reading mood" so I'm convinced that under normal circumstances I would have liked this book a little more. With that being said... I'll continue on to my opinions.

This book felt like two books or novellas that got squeezed together. The first half (or part) of this book is about the vampire Gideon and the witch that is holding him captive. Kay (who is actually a werewolf) is captured by the witch to be food for Gideon. And without spoiling it, we all pretty much can guess what happens next.

The second half (or part) of this book focused on Kay and her relationship with her werewolf pack (and family). The age-old Alpha struggle and potentially feuding packs emerge in this part of the book.

While Gideon is a much more contemporary vampire than Ms. Ashley has ever created, it couldn't save this book and my lack of interest in Kay didn't help. I applaud Ms. Ashley's efforts for her contemp vamp, but the reason I love her books is the "old world" feel to them and the older, dark, brooding vampires she creates. I would LOVE to read another one of her historical vampire romance books.

It was ok until about 2/3 through! Then I had a WTH moment followed by a "You are such a DUMB A**" moment followed by a "You are so the naked girl checking the basement in a Freddie Movie!" to a WTF! This can get worse! and last a "I wasted a day for this SH*T!!"

So get this... A witch has a vampire captive. She throws in a girl who unbenonced to her is a werewolf. He loves her. She helps him escape. They travel together to end up back at her pack where she has an assh*le father who is forcing her into a marriage to an even worse man... AND SHE DOESN"T FIGHT IT!! She's a wimp! Well, she voices her opinion & that's it!

Much more & I can spoil the whole thing, but get this! Do you think it's wise o go someplace where you know people will hold you captive, rape you & beat you so you can go to a funeral??? Uhhhh NOOOOOOO! Said dead person would wish me safe! WTF!!! AND SHE GOOOES!! HER HUSBAND LETS HER!!! WHAAAATT!?! Idiot!

So I give it a 3 stars because it just floored me to try to accept this rational for stupid behavior I was supposed to rollover & accept!

Whatever! Not a good intro to a writer! That's for sure! Very light romance... No erotica at all, so it's safe. even rape was skimmed over as not really a big deal.

This is my third book by Amanda Ashley; I know I can count on her books for a light hearted supernatural romance. Desire the Night caught my attention right off the back, because in many supernatural lore and stories the vampires and werewolves are not getting along together, much less romancing each other. It is an entertaining paranormal romance starring two intrepid warriors falling in forbidden love. While Ashley’s novel takes on a different version of vampire; turning into mist, transfiguration in a wolf, the story is well thought-out. The beginning of the romance is very flirty and like a fantasy for Kiya - the strong, sexy, wealthy vampire devoting all his time and attention on her and taking them to different places. After that, it's all about being on the run from their enemies. Fast-paced, fans will enjoy the escapades of the heroic lead couple, both are strong solid characters. The villains are one dimensional there are enough of them to go around. My only complaint is the ending I wish it had been different, I won’t spoil it but I felt is wasn’t the right way to end the story, but I didn’t write it so not my call. Overall not one of the best, but definitely not a bad book.
