I admit I don't so much read these coffee-table art books as use them to jog my memory of places I've visited, or would like to visit. As far as I'm concerned I'm happy just thumbing through the book looking at the pretty pictures. On a more practical note this book has sensational photographs of every aspect of Pompeii, and you can have a copy for about 20.00 at amazon. Truly a marvelous book about a mesmerizing city tragically preserved for the twenty-first century traveler.
Very Nice huge book, I have the B&N translated version of the original, beautiful photographs and some really odd stuff was expecting more but it seemed more bent on the architecture aspect of matters and really went into sometimes too much for me to the point of boredom. I would have liked have learned more besides just structures and the private homes of some notable and not notable residents. I did not care for the comparison of paganism to Christianity in the early beginning of the book nor reference to organized religion in a tone I did not appreciate. All In All I am glad I own a copy but Was left wanting for more.
