Jean Brashear

A letter to Rod Stewart resulting in a Cinderella birthday for her daughter sowed the seeds of New York Times and USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear's writing career. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she's never been more terrified, she's never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She's an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive 'someday'—take that leap now.

Over fifty published novels later, the five-time RITA finalist and RTBookReviews Career Achievement Award winner has accumulated a whole passel of war stories to swap and loves nothing better than talking writing and books with readers and fellow writers.

And she'd still take that leap, war wounds and all.

I thought book 2 was equally good as book 1. Even though I did like the fact that they were practicing safe sex, I thought it a bit unrealistic that Mitch hadn't had a woman in years, but out of the blue had a condom in his pants pocket.

To hero or not to hero? Between the writing talents of Jean Brashear and the vocal stylings of Eric G. Dove, it's really not that hard of a choice. The loner vs. the lioness is the battle that wages between the pages of Texas Lonely. Nothing is as it seems. The secrets are haunting, the romance is epic and the story is heartbreaking. A hero is someone who knows the risks, but steps into the fire. Perrie and Mitch are the personification of heroism, as well as the greatest of example of love's staying power. Team Hero, here I come.

Mitch Gallagher is a loner to his core. He was banished from his home and everyone he loved at the age of sixteen. His heart is rusty from lack of use and he only had one friend in the whole world who recently passed away.

Perrie Matheson is escaping an abusive ex-husband who has threatened to steal their son so she runs away and heads to her grandpa's cabin in the mountains, knowing that he will keep her safe. Upon her trek to his mountain home she falls ill and unconsious. Her sons seeks help who turns out to be Mitch who was given her grandfather's cabin upon his death.

There are misunderstandings that keep these two at odds....until one night...

My only complaint is there is a lot of repetition throughout the whole book. Seemed to me the author had some serious points to make and did so by repeating the same things over and over.

Loved this book! I highly recommend it!

This is such a great book, loved the little boy, the hero and heroine, and the story line. The pace is fast, yet not rushed. Happy reading!

Mitch Gallagher left home as a teenager when his mother died in an accident he felt he caused (and his father agreed). He eventually found a father figure, Perrie's grandfather, who befriended and facilitated his maturation into manhood. Perrie had been held captive in a loveless marriage, and was forced to flee or lose her son, so she fled to her grandfather's cabin, not knowing he had died. The book portrays Perrie and Mitch's journey past mistrust and feelings of low self-worth to love and family.

I felt so sorry for Mitch for holding on to the guilt of his mother's death. Perrie was the typical victim of a manipulative, abusive husband. I was so proud of Davey; as young as he was, he stood up to protect his mother when she was so ill. The happy ending soothed my heart. I cant wait for the next in series.

I received an copy of the audiobook from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own

I read this for the "local author" category of the Popsugar Challenge. I'm not a big-time reader of romance, but I liked this because it seemed to me to have more to it than "girl meets boy, boy ticks off girl, girl falls in love anyway". I have only read one other of this series, but I didn't feel that I was missing too much of the background story. I think the addition of the heroine's five year old son added a nice twist to the romance, and I generally liked the characters. I will probably follow up with this series. In the interests of full disclosure, I knew the author back when I was a library director and she was one of my favorite patrons (I think before her writing career started), and I'm thrilled to see her career has been so successful.

After reading the second book in the series, I see that the series is about broken lives. This book was just as good as the first.

Mitch is deeply scarred by the death of his mother and all that happens around that event...he was only 16. Pierre is scarred by her rich and controlling husband and her mother's actions all through her life. And then we have Davis, who is young (5 years) and innocent and doesn't know the scars that Pierre has spared him.

At the center of this book is Davie and his unconditional love and the love that he unleashes in the two adults that have been thrown together by circumstance but who both adore the boy.

Great second book in the series. Perrie Matheson is on the run to protect her son from her ex. The only place she knows that would be safe is her Grandfathers shack. By the time Perrie and her son come close to the cabin, she is really sick, and her son must find the cabin. Luckily, loner Mitch Gallagher is in the cabin and helps get Perrie to the cabin. Mitch thinks Perrie is a heartless rich brat for never coming to see her Grandfather. As Perrie heals, She and Mitch come to realize that nothing is as it seems and they come to fight a common enemy. Then Mitch finds a reason to return to Morning Star with Perrie and her son.

Loved this series.
Although introduced in another book, I was keen to read their stories.
I got these stories in a boxed set.
Boone and Maddies was a hoot, this gal is like a whirlwind. Their story just so awesome, love, promises and commitment. A great read.
Mitch and Perrier’s story was equally enjoyable. Bot burned from love but willing to take the gamble again, along with an adorable little boy. Loved it.
Lacey and Dev’s story was a teenage tragedy of mis communications and lies. But so enjoyed how they come full circle.
Narration was awesome too.

This is the second book in the story I have listened to and I love each of these brothers. Both of these brothers carry so much pain and Mitch was forced from his home at the age of sixteen. The granddaughter of the man who owned the cabin that Mitch now lives in shows up with her son and is running from something. Mitch takes care of the her and her son and actually opens his heart to these two people. The suspense and the emotions expressed by the reader keep you listening and involved in the story.

A Story of Broken Lives .

A chance meeting of three terribly broken lives that hung together long enough to discover they were the collective cure for each other. Each of them being the miracle cure that softens the heart and opens the mind. It was a wonderful and engaging tale by a masterful story Teller

Mitch closed off his heart and his life when his father kicked him out years ago. Living in the wilderness suites him. Perrie is running to her grandfather's cabin, unaware of the events that transpired. Mitch assumes he know the type of person Perrie is and neither want to open up to one another. Davey is adorable and brings their story together. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

The second book in a series but can be read as a standalone. Two people who regret past decisions and an adorable five year old boy make up this delightful story about survival and facing your fears.

I was pulled in from the start and didn't want to put this down. Well written and perfectly paced so you can follow along easily. Perrie suffers and finally breaks away to find Mitch who has been alone for so long he doesn't know how to love.

Mitch and Perrie, stranded in a cabin, a son of hers to protect. A beautiful story of learning to trust another person, enough to fall in love again.

I liked this book a little better than Texas Secrets. In my opinion this one was a little edgier than Texas Secrets. There is still a lot of repetition in this book, like Texas Secrets. Jean Brashear kept me wondering if Simon would show up. I liked Perrie and her love for Davey. Perrie was fragile in some ways, yet she was willing to do her part. She was definitely strong than she looked. Davey was my favorite he was willing to learn. I liked Texas Lonely and was entertained, I even got a little teary eyed at the end.

Enjoyed the story as much as the others. I specially liked that Mitch cared about her son before he fell in love with Perrie.

Texas Lonely is book seven of the Galleghers of Morning Star series by Jane Brashear. This is the story of Mitch who was banished from Morning Star. Jane manages to keep the excitement of the Gallegher series alive in this book. How you can get to book seven and not repeat yourself too much is something Jane does quite well.
Mitch Gallegher is a loner. He had always been the “different” son on the ranch. He did not like ranching and wanted to be anywhere but there. He was a “hellraiser” and it got him into major trouble. He and his father exchanged harsh words and his father told him to get his things and leave. His father was a very hard man. Mitch gathered his things and left the ranch. His mother followed him to try to talk some sense into him when she crashed. Mitch saw her lose control and crash and was back there in a flash. However, he could do nothing but hold her until she died before the paramedics got there. His father was furious and heartbroken and in his pain told Mitch to leave and never to return. He was no longer welcome. He wasn’t to attend the funeral. Mitch took all of this to heart as only a seventeen year old can and left for good. His only regrets were his responsibility in the death of his mother and leaving his brothers behind. He roamed until he reached the Wind River Range of Wyoming and ran into Cyrus Blackburn. Cy was a hermit and allowed Mitch to live with him and learn from him. When Cy got sick, Mitch tried to reach his granddaughter but she would not come to the phone after he had walked three miles to get to one. She never answered Cy’s letters nor did she write him. When Cy died, he left the cabin and all his property to Mitch. Mitch is content to live out his life here since he can’t go home.
Perrie Matheson is Cy’s granddaughter. She loved her grandfather dearly as he was her only relative. However, she married Simon thinking she had found her Prince; but he was an evil and ruthless man. She found out about some of his business dealings. She did bear him a son, Davey. Davey is now five and his father has little use for him. He found someone he wanted to marry more than Perrie so he divorced her and let her keep Davey but she could not leave Boston without his permission. When Perrie finds he intends to take Davey and bring him up as his son, since his new wife could not have children, she ran. She told Elias, the gardener, where she would be but no one else. At any time she could have turned Simon in but he had done a good PR job of making her out to be an unfit mother and wife for someone as prominent as he was. She ran. She ran to her Grandfather’s cabin. They got to within a couple of miles of his cabin and parked in a parking area. They then set out on foot for the cabin. They were at the start of a blizzard and Perrie finally could not make it; but Davey went on to find help. Luckily Mitch heard his cry.
Mitch found Davey and finally Perrie and took them to his house and made sure Davey was taken care of while he took care of Perrie who was quite ill and unconscious. She is very upset when she comes to because she does not trust men. However, they were marooned with Mitch until the snow stopped.
Many things happen while they were in the cabin. Davey is a typical 5 year old and they do manage to get themselves into problems. Perrie wants to leave as soon as possible with Davey but Mitch finally decides he really wants them to stay. How can they stay when he is a murderer without much to look forward to him.
Will Simon find them? What will happen between Perrie and Mitch? How does he get connected to the Galleghers and received an invitation to come back home?

This is book two in the Texas Heroes: The Gallaghers of Morning Star series.

We meet Boone's brother, Mitch, in this story. When he left Morning Star after his mother's death, he roamed from place to place living a destructive life. Then he met an old man, Cy. Cy pulled him from his personal Hell and made him into a strong, good man. Now Cy is dead. Mitch had tried to contact Cy's only family member, his granddaughter Perrie, but never could reach her. Cy left his remote mountain cabin to Mitch and Mitch enjoys the reclusive life he's living. The day a small boy came up to his door changed his life.

Perrie was fleeing from her dangerous and ruthless ex-husband in order to protect her and her son. She's going to Grandpa Cy because he's all family she has and she knows he will give her the sanctuary she so desperately needs. Then she gets extremely ill and when she wakes up, she learns of her grandfather's death and meets the man who now owns the cabin.

His misunderstanding and false preconception of her leads him to be harsh with her and to not want anything to do with her. Her son, Davey, on the other hand is a whole different story. Five year old Davey immediately clings to Mitch and it doesn't take long at all before Davey has sunken himself deep into Mitch's heart.

Davey's adventures in the wilderness add some gray hairs to both Perrie and Mitch. Then a letter comes about her ex-husband and she is forced to return to Boston in order to finally be free of him forever. But not before these two make declarations of love to one another.

Both Perrie and Mitch have tortured souls and hearts of gold. I loved both of them almost instantly and couldn't wait for them to realize their love for each other. I can't wait to finish this story and see how the rest of the story unfolds...

This whole review might be considered a spoiler, so proceed with caution.

I thought this book moved a little slower than the first one. There seemed to be more repetitive introspection than was strictly necessary. Still, I really enjoyed this romance novel. Even though the romance in this series always moves pretty fast, it feels evenly paced and not impulsive and immature and stupid (as it has in many, many other romance novels I've read). The characters all grow and develop and find out the things they need to find out about themselves and each other before they finally get together in the end.

One thing Brashear has really mastered, at least to my own particular taste, is painting characters who've had bad things happen to them, leaving them scarred and scared, in a way that feels very real--not manufactured, cheesy, dopey. Characters who are getting by in life okay, not compounding their own grief by making dumb reactive life choices, but who still need to heal before they can be whole enough to be in a relationship--which they do--which is what makes it feel so good at the end.

It may not be a great literary work, but I have enjoyed every one of Brashear's books so far. I need a beach vacation so I can start another of her series next. Good thing I'm getting one in just a few days!

I'm loving this series!

Mitch is a lonely soul, one fateful night changed his life forever.. Exiled from his home at the age of 16, lead to an accident that he forever blame himself for.. He's spent his life since then with no family, except for the stubborn old man that took him in.. But that great man died, without his only remaining family.. His granddaughter, that refused to come home when he was dying..
Then one day out of the blue, Perrie's small son knocks on the door.. His mother is sick and has collapsed.. Mitch finds her and takes them in, till she is better.. He can't wait for her to get better and leave, he can't stand her, even though he is instantly attracted to her...
Perrie is on the run, trying to keep her son away from the evil that is her ex- husband.. The only place she know she will be safe, is with her grandpa, only to find he has passed away.. Leaving a hot, closed off man, in his place.. Only he seems to hate her and she has no clue why..
I'm addicted to this series, can't wait to read the rest of th we series!!
