Poor Ruby, forced to try and raise Max in the absence of their parents. This is why bossy older siblings are bossy. It is also very funny. Max and Ruby are two of my favorite fictional creations.

More than 20 years on I still love Max and Ruby. I heard every line in my head in Ruby's voice from the show. I went to check on the performer's name and discovered they only stopped making the show 2 years ago. Brava Rosemary Wells! Well done.

Usually Max and Ruby books are really good and well written, however, this one just didn't seem (to me) to have a storyline. The author could have written a clean up book much better than this especially since Ruby was doing all the cleaning and Max put everything in his pocket! Granted Max always seems to get into mischief but this book kind of took it to the top. Not one of my favorites....

This book is absolutely amazing! As a teenager, I used to love the show Max and Ruby and reading the books as a child was always my comfort as a kid. Just reading this one brings back memories. Especially cause this is my favorite book. This book I would say is terrific for kids. It shows how Max has a dirty room and Ruby tells him where stuff goes. I feel like that is important for a child how to be organized, it goes a long way. Kids are very messy, especially with putting things in the correct order. I feel like reading this book to your children just teaches them how being clean is better than just having a messy room. That is very important for a child to be organized in there future it’s always better to be clean than dirty and this book is pretty much a book teaching kids how to be good cleaners and organizers.

Max's room is a mess! There's a Popsicle melting in the closet, a tube of opened Miracle Bubbles on the floor, and the ant farm ants have escaped under the bed! It's definitely time to clean up. Max's sister, Ruby, is quick to take charge, and of course Max wants to help. But Max has his own ideas about picking up his room, so things don't turn out exactly as Ruby planned. Children will cheer as Max innocently and humorously outsmarts his older sister once again.

This is a cute and funny one in the Max and Ruby series. Max's room is an absolute mess and Ruby is trying to help him clean up. However, all the "mess" is "treasure" to Max, so he keeps putting it all in his overall pocket rather than into the trash can. "All" includes an old piece of gum, bubble soap, sand, a melted popsicle... lol Joey thinks the book is really silly and fun and we've read multiple times.

Ruby wants to clean Maxs room because it was very messy and dirty but Max cannot throw anything away. Max helps Ruby by cleaning the mess away into his pocket. This book offered great detail about what was in max’s room and all of the different things they found and revealed that was hiding away in his messy room.

I liked this less than Bunny Money and Bunny Cakes. My daughter has also not requested this one whereas she can’t get enough of those other two. There are some photos inserted collage-style into the illustrations and it’s distracting - like photos of bubbles where the rest of the scene is hand drawn. Also, I’ll be honest, this book grosses me out. There are less fun voices to do in this one too.

Max's room needs a good cleaning, so Ruby decides that it should be cleaned, and everything should be away put in its place. But as always Max has other ideas for some of his more important things, and puts them in his pocket.

This is fairly cute, but somehow the humor that seems like it should be there just doesn't quite appear - the idea of storing a popsicle in a shoe is funny, but somehow, maybe because there really aren't any surprises, it just doesn't tickle me.

Theme: Rosemary Wells stories

Lots of snickers from the kids while we read the mess that Max keeps in his pocket. We stopped right at the end to ask if they could remember everything that went into his pocket. What a great memory exercise!

Max & Ruby books are classics and always so fun to read. In the story, Ruby helps Max clean up his room, but he's mischievous and makes a mess in his pocket instead. This is such a cute and funny book!

Max has some explaining to do. He's just not making very good decisions in this book. Good thing his sister is around to help him out. All the kids I read this to were fascinated with the story.

Groundbreaking juxtaposition of real-life images against Wells’ signature illustrations. Really highlights the gravity of the mess. I applaud Wells for not being afraid to adopt a more gritty tone.

I like this book because it is creative and as well interesting. As well gives kids knowledge they should clean up after themselves.

No wants to clean up there room, including Max, that is what makes this book so relatable. This book shows you just how much one tiny pick can hold when you don’t want to clean your room!!

Rosemary Wells could write a manual for a refrigerator and I would find it amusing. I love naughty Max and I ADORE bossy Ruby and their tales are some of my favorites for storytime.

I was not a big fan of this storybook, but I did enjoy all of the illustrations that were included. As Ruby helps her younger brother, Max, clean his very messy room, he begins to put things in his pockets so his sister does not put it away or throw it away. After she finishes cleaning his room, she asks him what he has in his pocket, and everything he had hidden including gum on a string, dirt and rocks, and a melted popsicle burst out of his overly full pocket. As the items he places in his pocket are introduced to the reader, the illustrator makes them life-like compared to the rest of the illustrations. I really likes this aspect because it made these certain objects stand out against the mets in his room; and, it makes it easier for the reader, especially younger ones to point out the objects that the text of the story is describing as the book continues. I would read this book to my class when they need a reminder that the classroom needs to be kept clean, and that everything should have its place.

(CIP) Max's big sister Ruby is determined to help him clean up his messy room, but he keeps rescuing things that she wants to throw away.

(Claudia) Lots of fun for preschoolers to watch in awe and glee as Max puts everything<\i> into his pockets - from sand to bubbles to ants to a melting popsicle and more - while his (older) sister Ruby finds her satisfaction in creating some lovely order. The illustrations, which include three-dimensional materials collaged onto the colorful, largely two-dimensional drawings, are especially engaging. PreSchool.

(SLJ) “The rabbit sibling are back, and they’re just as lovable as ever.”

(Booklist) “Like all Max and Ruby books, this one does not disappoint.”

When Max cleans up, as when Max does everything in his cute series of books by Rosemary Wells, things don't end up quite as his big sister Ruby expects. My son loved Max's somewhat innocent approach to wreaking havoc. As Max stuffs everything he wants to save from the rubbish bin into his overalls pocket, kids can relate. My young children have been afraid that cleaning things up will somehow make them disappear forever, and the book initiates good conversations about what cleaning up is and isn't, that certain things need to be thrown away because they won't last, and that things may actually be easier to find later if they are put away.
