Magical. Remember when painting Easter eggs was a wonderful pastime? Claret brings this back to your heart... until she cracks a corny modern joke, and the story loses its charm.

This is a cute picture book that tells readers about the first chocolate rabbit. There was a family of rabbits that helped their artist father gather eggs for him to decorate for Easter. The little boy rabbit, Bertie, was trying to get a glimpse and a taste of a pan of chocolate that was cooling on the stove. An accidental slip leads to a big mess and the beginning of a tasty tradition. This would be a nice book to share with kids during the days leading up to Easter or to have as part of a seasonal collection.

Bertie's father is an Easter egg artist.
His mother makes chocolate for the family as a surprise.
Bertie decides to sneak himself a test taste and WHOOPSIES, the chocolate pot tips all over him.
His father is inspired by the mishap, leaving Bertie to pose in chocolate while his father carves a wooden figure.
Thus, the chocolate rabbit becomes an holiday staple with Bertie making the deliveries.
The soft color art makes me think of Peter Rabbit, cute and lovable.

This is an extremely cute story with nicely done illustrations that remind me of the old Golden Books illustrations. It's about a rabbit family and the origin of the chocolate rabbits we eat at Easter.

A wonderful story about a boy who first makes a mistake and then the wonderful chocolate bunny masterpiece. A good read around Easter for students to relate.
