More than half of this book is idiotic ghost stories and of the rest you can't actually visit more than a handful of the sites. Waste of time.

Some interesting stories and pictures. Was hoping to see some I'd visited or could visit in the future, but that wasn't the case.

Have you ever wanted to sit around an old London pub, and listen to ghost stories, tales of the lesser known, but equally cool stone 'henges' that dot the country side, or hear about the church down the street that is decorated with human bones? Sure you have. But Like me, I bet you can not afford the plane ticket, just to share a pint with some eccentric story teller in a merry old English pub. If so then this book is for you.
Sure, many of the tales are just local legends, and many of the histories end with "we don't really know for sure". But like the other books in the "Weird" series, they are fun reading, and would give you something to think about as you drive past odd buildings, sculptures, streets, etc in your tours of the area.
I used the "Weird Oregon" book a while back is a guide to seeing roadside oddities on a recent Oregon trip. I'm sure if I ever make it to England, I would seek out some of the finds mentioned in this book during my travels. That's me. I like weird and eccentric. What can I tell you. Must be my Southern California roots. Where 'Weird' is meant as a compliment....

Weird England: Your Travel Guide to England and Local Legends and Best Kept Secrets by Matt Lake (Sterling Publishing 2007) (914.20486) is a disappointment. It is nothing like a travel guide. It's simply a collection of silly summer-camp quality ghost stories and outlandish tales that mention locations from which the tales are associated. Don't bother if you are over twelve years of age. My rating: 3/10, finished 7/17/13.

I'm a huge fan of the Weird U.S. series, and it's nice to finally see some overseas Weird books to add to my collection. After reading Weird England, I can safely say that England is a pretty weird place - a weird place I'd really love to visit one day! At least now I know that if I ever do go there, this book has pointed out several sites worth checking out.

This book is interesting for those who love history, and thoroughly inspiring for those who love to travel.

Creepy, fun, and informative, it's the perfect companion for any long trip around the country.
