Learning. Striving. Picking yourself up when life knocks you down. These are experiences Joe Girard knows about better than anyone, and the subjects Joe explores in this in-depth and uplifting self-help book. From identifying time-wasters, building self confidence, practicing the art of self-discipline, learning how to associate with the right kind of people, and spotting the opportunities available to you, this book takes you through the challenges of working for success and the actual experience of life itself-to show how you make the most of your unlimited potential. Here are just some of the essential how-to's Joe teaches in this How to get a handle on your goals, How to make think-pictures and visualize the success you want, How to take risks-the kind that make sense! How to reaffirm, every day, that you are truly #1 and can reach any goal you set, How to recognize new opportunities in your life and make the most of them. At the heart of MASTERING YOUR WAY TO THE TOP are dozens of extraordinary profiles of some of America's top business people who tell where they came from and share their own private rules for success with you. Among these leaders are Richard M. DeVos, who became a billionaire because he confounded a company called Amway in his garage with his high school friend; Muriel Siebert, who came to New York City from Ohio with Five hundred dollars and now has the largest woman-owned company on the New York Stock Exchange; and pizza king Tom Monaghan, who bought the small pizzeria where he worked and turned it into a billion-dollar chain called Domino's. A man with a huge heart as well as a wealth of business experience and savvy, Joe Girard has written his most inspirational and important book yet-a book for everyone who is ready to make changes in his or her life, set goals, and master the climb to the top. Joe Girard worked his way up from shoeshine boy, dishwasher, delivery boy, stove assembler, and home building contractor to become recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the "world's greatest salesman". He sold more retail "big ticket" items "one at a time" than any other salesperson in any retail industry including houses, boats, motor homes, insurance, automobiles, etc. As an international lecturer Joe speaks before civic groups, organizations and sales conventions of many major corporations worldwide. The author of the powerful bestsellers, HOW TO SELL YOURSELF, HOW TO SELL ANYTHING TO ANYBODY and HOW TO CLOSE EVERY SALE, goes beyond anything you have ever read about achieving success.
Joseph Samuel Gerard, better known as Joe Girard, is an American salesman. Having sold 13,001 cars at a Chevrolet dealership between 1963 and 1978, Girard has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's greatest salesman.
This is the second of Joe’s books I have read. Joe was a proud man, very proud of his own selling accomplishments and specifically being included in the Guinness Book of World Records which doesn’t carry the weight it did in his heyday obviously. The message I took away from this reading was that anyone can have success if the sleeves are rolled up and the overtime hours are put in. Along with hard work one should be conscientious of how we treat others. Specifically not judging the book based on the cover. Joe’s motivation for selling and the efforts he put forth are clearly defined by his own financial gain. His first sale as he admitted was motivated by a personal need for money to buy groceries for his family and himself. And his primary motivating factor continued to be financial prosperity for the remainder of his selling career. One surprising inclusion into Joe’s book were the multiple success stories of men and women from various backgrounds who reached their own personal “tops” in business and life. Some were world renown companies such as Domino’s and Lionel Train while the remainder were companies that had a local flair of name recognition. I gave this book a three star and I would recommend reading if you enjoy the self help and motivation genres. Thanks for reading and best of luck to you. K.B.
