Loved this book! But head ups throw everything you know about real life out of the window when you start this book.

This book has:
- Cinnamon roll MMC
- Fierce FMC
- Wolf shifter romance
- Unexpected pregnancy
- Found family
- Low angst

I loved the development between Niev and Blake and due to the fact they are fated mates they start to trust each other easily knowing they are safe with the other from the very beginning. The information woven into the story was sometimes a lot to digest at once but this is a nice relaxed, swoon, no tension, love story read so take your time with enjoying to read this! And I still like that Niev is herself and has her own opinion even though she accepted the fact she wants to be part of the pack which she should never question the Alpha.

I like the fact she learned to accept her gift and that she uses it for the good and strength for the pack and that they learned to accept her back. I do hope Blake and Niev get more moments together later on in the serie.

I can’t wait to see what book 2 is going to bring because that epilogue of what the next part is about makes it so interesting!

Fated mates and insta-love are time tested romance tropes that I always enjoy. If you're an urban fantasy/shifter romance fan do not sleep on The Wolf Slayer by Tanja Longoria. The main characters, waitress Niev Snow and cursed pack alpha son Blake find each other during the oddest of encounters (which I quite enjoyed). Niev returning from a camping trip where she'd tested her supernatural healing ability by flinging herself off a cliff repeatedly. The beginning is a slow burn but it's a good one. This reminded me of the notorious cliff diving New Moon scene with Bella. I don't care what you say that was a fantastic scene. Except with Niev she's testing the splat / heal ratio. Anyway, Niev's car brakes down and Blake offers assistance. I enjoyed the author's descriptions here too. You could almost smell the grit, blood and dirt clinging to her clothing from her excursion. Niev is very relatable, which made for an easy to read narrative. The plotline isn't a dark one. I usually prefer darker violent books but not here. I genuinely liked these characters. There were a few repeated phrases but it ended up making their courting cute and sweet instead of annoying. There are however barriers in the way of their happily ever after, which is the meat of the story. The suspense when Niev goes to meet Blake's family was palpable.

Now for the only other criticism I have, I'll be honest, I really don't like this cover. Because of that I don't think I would've given this book a chance had the author not approached me to review it and what a shame that would've been. This book has it all, interesting paranormal characters, compelling prose and a romance that keeps you coming back for more. Tanja Longoria has a new fan in me. I'll definitely be buying book 2.

"From now on you’re no longer important, your family will come first.” Her voice was very dominant, and her tone had an essence of the authority Niev had witnessed in both Blake and Seth . “You’re nothing compared to the woman who bears your child, and you will do everything to keep her safe and well. She gave up her body and life for you, so you in return will provide for her and love her with all your heart.”

🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book follows 2 individuals, Blake and Niev. Blake who is a wolf shifter was never meant to be, he is an alpha living as a subordinate within the pack. Niev lives with a roommate after leaving her family behind, she suddenly becomes of powers of her own and after a weekend in the forest, she ends up meeting Blake. Fast forward, Niev experiences an unexpected pregnancy and the rest you’ll need to find out for yourself.

I personally enjoyed the development of both characters as well as their relationship. Niev will go to such great lengths for Blake including risking her own life. She is a strong independent women with her own opinions and I like that. I love that they both seem to have an internal drive pulling them together even if it isn’t what they would generally do. I hope this is explored more in the future books.

Although this book tends in some respect be completely way off from real life. It’s to be expected with fantasy books. What I enjoyed the most is that the author includes real life reactions which would be stemmed from past trauma. For example, needing Blake to reassure her here and there including asking him not to drive away etc. Speaking from someone who has these thoughts and insecurities myself and needing to ask this as well as other similar questions etc. I found this pleasantly reassuring and much more real life. Books tend to reveal an unpleasant past with characters at times from parents/ex partners etc, however, although they explain this and it affects the characters development in different ways, for example; more closed off, being a player and not seeking love etc. They tend to leave out the doubt and fears in respect to examples mentioned above and throughout the book. I found this connected me to Niev much better.

The epilogue had me eager to read the next straight away.

Overall, I will be reading the sequel and I did enjoy this book. I would suggest also to friends and family based off the tropes they like.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This story is a supernatural fantasy novel that delves into the world of mythical creatures, love, and the struggles of family dynamics. With an engaging storyline and a mix of familiar tropes, the book offers an enjoyable reading experience, though it dragged a bit at times. I did enjoy myself and feel this is a 3.5 star rating!

One of the notable aspects of "The Wolf Slayer" is the portrayal of the female main character, Niev. She discovers she literally can’t die… like, at all. 🤣 she meets and falls in love with Blake, a werewolf from a close-knit family. The rapid development of their relationship leads to an unexpected twist when Niev becomes pregnant, adding another layer of emotional complexity to their journey.

The dynamics within Blake's family, particularly his conflicted relationship with his brother Seth, the alpha of their werewolf pack, provide an intriguing subplot. Tanja skillfully explores the internal struggle Blake faces as he tries to reconcile his own desires to be an alpha, and having to be submissive to his brother.

While "The Wolf Slayer" successfully captures the essence of supernatural romance and family dynamics, it does have a few areas that could have been polished more! The pacing at times feels a little slow, even though Blake and Niev have an insta love/lust/connection. I did find myself spacing out a bit with a lot of inner monologues and fluff. But I also think it’s a “me” problem too - I am a LOVER of slowburn, im sorry. 🤣

Overall this was a fun story, I think anyone who enjoys werewolf themed stories will have loads of fun reading this one!!

Thank you so much Tanja for sending me this arc!! These are my honest thoughts and feelings! 🖤🖤

This was a tough one for me, I went to dnf a few times, I wanted to keep going for the author but it was slow paced for me.

The characters were really frustrating to me, both fall head over heals very quickly, instalove at its finest and I found Niev really emotional and a bit of a walkover, although kind natured and a nice lead she likely won’t appeal to all.

I found Blake had no back bone, he was submissive to the point that it didn’t match the personality the writer gives when he is around Niev.

It made the characters hard to connect with as a lot of the dialogue and writing was repetitive or stilted, I couldn’t get into a flow with this book or get into the characters heads.

I also felt the community were hypocritical, as there was little to no lore about their community, the distaste towards Niev was unexpected and unfounded, it felt like this was put as a barrier to relationships but it needs more fleshing out.

There is a trope in this book I was not aware of that I don’t mesh with as a reader, I don’t want to spoil for others but I just found it sadly didn’t work for me.

World building was good there was lots of lovely descriptions of the surrounding areas which did build a lovely picture of the world.

I think this book has good potential but I’d love to see more character development and reasoning behind their actions to enjoy this more.

A massive thank you to the author for allowing me to read and review.

Niev and Blake . . .

This is an intriguing paranormal story line with strong characters in Niev Snow and Blake Timber. The author gives the reader lots of drama in this fast-paced story line and creates for us vividly described action scenes that make the telling so realistic.

The reader will be drawn into this story from start to finish as the action intensifies. I enjoyed reading about how Niev learns about her special healing ability and how she can use it. Growing up in the human world made it difficult to be accepted into the pack. But can Niev prove herself to them? Can she save them and Blake from a vicious attack and prove her worth?

Cinnamon hero meets bada** female lead plus a paranormal twist and shifters? Yes please. Niev and Blake two strangers each with their own secrets meet by chance and are unexpectedly drawn together time and time again. After and unexpected pregnancy they become unsure of what the future will hold for the two of them. One things clear however, sticking together might just be the answer for them, their family and their pack.

Niev neve felt she belonged. Blake is a second son who is an Alpha which is not supposed to happen. He meets Niev and she gets pregnant. This was not ever going to happen. Now Blake has to explain to his family about her and that they will be having a baby, but war happens first.

Thank you to the author for gifting me an ARC, I really enjoyed this book.

Whilst this is the first book in a series, it doesn’t end on any major cliffhangers so it is easy to read as a standalone for joe before getting the others.

I love a wolf shifter romance and this one was fun, slight drama filled and had steamy scenes.

I liked the unique take on the dynamics of the pack and I loved that Niev stuck to her character and made sure her voice wasn’t squashed even as she accepted the invite to the pack.

I liked seeing Blake’s POV too cause he was so sweet and caring for Niev.

I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes after the glimpse we got in the epilogue.

The Wolf Slayer was a strong story with enjoyable moments, however, some elements of the writing and character development could be improved on.

The dialogue between characters was silted at times, not all of it felt like natural conversation. There was a lot of telling not showing, especially when it came to Niev and Blake's relationship - possibly because they fall in love so quickly that there wasn't time to show anything but a mysterious insta-love connection.

Blake and Niev's relationship was sugar-sweet, and both of them jump head-first into each other with barely an introduction. There was plenty of graphic spice in this book, mostly of the vanilla variety. These scenes gave readers tons of chemistry between the two main characters, which was lacking at the beginning of the book.

Despite being in his 30s, Blake comes off as a teenager instead of his own man. When both his father and his brother stepped over the line and put his relationship with Niev at risk, Blake didn't fight back, only stoically refused to forgive them. There are reasons he submits, but it is hard to reconcile the strong, confident lover with scenes of him meekly giving in to demands and orders. Perhaps other shifter books have ruined me with the big bad alpha routine but Blake comes across as a boy in constant trouble, not a man willing to do anything for the woman he claims to love.

Niev was easygoing, despite all the changes happening around her. She tended to rely on vague instincts to make decisions, which made me wonder if this was linked to her connection with Blake. Though she was called a strong modern woman by other characters, I found her to be a doormat at times, especially when she repeatedly tried to change her personality to fit in. Niev was extremely brave when fighting for others, I wish she had the same confidence and courage to stand up for herself.

The community ostracizing Niev because of her abilities was disjointed, there wasn't any indication that werewolves had prejudice against special abilities until that moment. Considering the men shapeshift into wolves and also heal more quickly than humans, I'm not sure why a faster healing ability was so outrageously hated.

Overall, The Wolf Slayer had a great storyline but could use some finesse. I still have a lot of unanswered questions about Niev. The book concluded with a happy-for-now ending but gave us an ominous epilogue. Obviously, there are plenty more enemies that await Niev and Blake, as well as the rest of the Timber Wolves.

I received an eARC for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this book a lot, I love how this author knows how to make a great plot and great, relatable characters who are easy to connect with.

This book will take you to a small town where Niev runs into Blake Timber at a gas station. There is an instant connection between them, but Niev doesn’t understand it. All she was trying to do was figure out her new healing ability and to see if she could be healed after major damage. I can’t go into too much detail about the plot, or I would give it all away and instead I encourage you to read it.

The characters are easy to connect with and are just enjoyable from the excitement of their relationship to the other drama situations that come up. I like how the author did a dual pov with Niev and Blake, it helped to understand what they were going through. With Niev I love that when she found out the whole story about Blake she didn’t freak out, she used her brain and thought everything out. Even when she was at the community where Blake lives, she really didn’t freak out. Niev, being strong headed, has her own opinions and is not afraid to ask questions, even though it's not the way of the wolfpack women. I like how Longoria made sure to show that even though Niev has her opinions about things, she is also understanding and respectful to the alpha, even though she is not a wolf. I loved that Blake did not try to change her but loved her and supported her through all her choices that she had to make about where she wanted to live, what she wanted to do, and everything else. I also enjoyed that it was one good looking wolfy, he is also very compassionate and holds his family/pack close to him. This was my first pregnancy trope, and it was well done, I know that I have read or heard other reviews talk about this trope being horrible, but the way Longoria wrote it was well done and I think the best part was that Niev found a family she fits in with finally.

I have been so lucky to be able to read Tanja Longoria books for the last year and I cannot wait to see what other books she comes out with, but mostly I need to know what happens in book two and soon.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance, spice/steamy scenes, forbidden romances, fated mates and one badass female character.

I want to thank Booksirens and Tanja Longoria for the opportunity to review this book.

Coming on July 2nd, you won't want to miss the first installment of the Healing Blood Series, #TheWolfSlayer, by Tanja Longoria. Pre-order it today so it gets delivered right to you on release day! Bonus gift to you, the series is set to rapid release this summer so you won't need to wait long for books 2 and 3!

Niev has recently recieved an unexpected gift. On the way home from testing it, her car Berta fails, leading to a second chance encounter with Blake. Unable to let Niev spend the night in her back seat, Blake takes her back to his place to spend the night.

Turns out Niev and Blake can't get each other out of their heads, despite Blake's family pressing him to forget about the woman. Not going to happen!

I immensely enjoyed the story that unfolded as Blake and Niev's lives intertwine. Niev breaks through the traditional barriers of Blake's community while still respecting the roles played by members of the community- or are denying as the case may be with Blake.

The epilogue has me reeling! I am a suckers for villains so I cannot wait to see more of that from Longoria.

The Fated Mates denial that features in many wolf shifter books is nowhere to be found in The Wolf Slayer. The pregnancy trope is well done and I love the family that Niev found through it.

The characters are enjoyable.

Blake is a compassionate male mc who values his family and community above all else. Niev is a self aware and caring. The Spice is moderate and tactful but still steamy.

Longoria's style is so well suited to her couple, as always- love it!

✔️ Dual POV
✔️ "Forbidden Romance"
✔️ Chemistry with Emotional Back-Up
✔️ Paranormal Romance
✔️ Fated Mates
✔️ Strong Female MC

Thank you Tanja for the opportunity to ARC this book.

The Wolf Slayer was a fun read. It’s low angst, insta-love (fated mates), with an adorable cinnamon roll MMC!

Right from the beginning we have a connection between Blake and Niev. She knows there’s something to him and feels herself drawn to him. Blake can’t seem to stay away either! He brings her to his secluded cabin after her car breaks down and starts an uproar between Blake and his family (that we will discover more about later). He has to sneak around to spend time with her but still can’t fully be himself with her. Niev has her secrets too that she’s trying to figure out.

The spice hits early on and their one night tryst ends in an accidental pregnancy. Blake can’t let Niev in on his secrets and Niev feels she can’t fully trust him so she ends things hastily and tries to handle the shock of being pregnant alone. She finally gives in and tells him. Blake isn’t the most receptive at first because of what it’ll mean for his child.

I don’t want to spoil the plot from here so I’ll be vague. There are tribe rivalries, family dynamics, super saucy scenes, power struggles, emotional stress, all wrapped up with sweet and spicy moments between Blake and Niev. Blake is attentive, protective yet not an Alpha-hole, and worships Niev. Niev has never had the family love that she is getting from Blake’s, so it’s overwhelming at first, but as she learns more about herself, her abilities, and what that means for Blake and their future, she will do anything in her power to be part of the pack and protect them.

This is a pretty light-hearted, fast read. We do get a cliffy, but this is a rapid release trilogy so we don’t have to wait long!

This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own. I did not receive any compensation for this review.

When I’m reading reviews before deciding if I want to read a book, some of the things that stand out to me are what readers DIDN’T like about the book. I find what someone doesn’t like often makes me WANT to read the book, so I will be sure to include that in my review.

This is a well written and well edited book. It is written in dual 3rd person pov, which took some getting used to. I found very few actual “errors” but I did find a couple times that a sentence was worded a little awkwardly.

Things I’m hoping we will learn more about in the upcoming books: I’m hoping we get to revisit fmc relationship with her roommate. I’m hoping we learn more about who and what the fmc is. I hope we get to see more of the dynamic between the mmc and his brother.

I came across this book from a post the author made in a fb group. I was immediately intrigued by the blurb she shared and offered to review an advance copy if she needed or was looking for reviewers. I do hope that scene the author shared is included in one of the books in this trilogy.

The Wolf Slayer is the 1st book in the Healing Blood Series and its a shifter/fated mates/insta love/ paranormal romance.
It was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. We got an interesting storyline with some suspense added to the mix and it held my attention until the end.

The story follows Blake, an Alpha wolf shifter living as a subordinate in his pack and Niev a human who suddenly gain unexpected power.
I loved seeing how their relationship unfolded and how easy everything was between them. I loved Niev's strength and how she still spoke her mind even after being accepted into the pack.
Told in dual POV, the story had drama, action, steam, and so much more.

However there were certain parts of the story that for me, was a bit slow, as there was too much internal mind chatter. Additionally I felt Blake came across as very young especially when dealing with his family however I will admit the author did a great job portraying his struggles.

This was a light, fast paced read with a happy for now ending and an epilogue that will have you anxious for book 2. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

So I’m not one who normally likes third person style books. I just find I can’t get into as much. That’s why I rate as 4 stars.

That being said, the plot in this book, had me so intrigued that I just had to keep going.
It’s a paranormal story with a FFMC & MMC. I loved the development between the characters. They are fated mates and you can see that from how they feel safe and start to trust each other right away. I get the idea that most mates in this book are chosen mates.
I felt bad for Blake due to his situation as an alpha, you can see how he struggles. But love that Niev was able to help him and let everyone see this new side of him.
Niev also has her own personal struggles. She has a special gift and struggles at first to trust anyone with it. She feels nobody will believe her and will call her a psycho. Blake accidentally see it and doesn’t push her to talk about it. But let’s her know that she is special and a strong person. He always makes her feel special and not judged.

I’m looking forward to reading more about Niev & Blake in the second book.

I'm leaving a voluntary review for this book in exchnage for an arcE read.

So you have Niev the struggling waitress who's left her adopted family behind and upon some self discovery crosses paths with a handsome cinnamon roll. Car trouble leads to a Sleepover and a need to find one another again (all point towards mates but we readers obv see this before the characters durrr)
Anyway Blake and Niev reunite and one thing leads to another, Ineffective birth control and wham bam thank you maam, Niev has a bun in the oven and has to reach out to Blake (whome she'd cut off for his wierd avoidance re his family) and he needs to reveal his home truths about his secluded "family" -cough PACK- and bring her into the fold.
Hes an absolute softy and she's strong willed but a piece of putty round him.
Lots of revelations and drama occur when you think theyre gonna be okay, he's put in danger and the pair have to face many hurdles for themselves and the pack!
Its a lovely read and start to the Healing Blood Books!🤰🏽🐺🌶⭐️❤️

Overall this book was good. Kept me intrigued during the entire book. I love how how the main woman was so strong and independent. Niev was the perfect character and she had me remembering just how powerful woman are. So often books play them as weak but this book had her a strong, fearless woman which was a wonderful thing. The POV the book was written in was not my usual and had me get confused a few times but not enough to make it hard to read. Just had to reread a few spots to help my understanding. For me how I pictured the book was like a fly on the wall but somehow knew their individual emotions. I tend to prefer 1st person POV so this was a little different. The ending also made me excited to read the rest of the series. Such a cliff hanger and had me checking for the date of book two to come out! Overall glad I read the book and look forward to future reads. Books spice level was low but enough to keep it spicy!

As always another beautiful book by Tanja! Thank you so much for sending it to me! Every story in the wolves series just gets better and better! (Plus I don't think the word pearl was used either 🥰)

I love now natural their relationship felt and that it wasn't forced. Its refreshing to see a mmc that isn't morally grey or psychotic! The whole family aspect makes me want to go and move in with the timber wolves ❤️

BUT HOW DARE YOU END IT WITH THAT CLIFFHANGER.

Marked a star down as I felt it could do with more spice and usually even though you write your books in the 3rd person, each chapter is still from one of their points of view where as this was kind of a free for all! But still a brilliant story ❤️

Niev's story was very good. Her past is a mystery. Finding her own strength, she's forging her own path, walking away from her adoptive parents and looking for a better life. A chance encounter with Blake Timber leads her on an entirely new path. I enjoyed the strength of both characters, especially when they fight their connection. I love the world set up by the author.
This author has a refreshing take on the shifter world, having the shifters act more feral and less human, with a strict hierarchy and consequences. A humans (Niev) presence and its impact on their community was quite fun to read. There are some very interesting characters in the book. I look forward to following the overarching mystery in the next book of the series.

I loved this book! Niev meets Blake when her breaks down and he offers to take her to spend the night at his house and takes her home in the morning. She goes and he does what he offered. But then he gets in trouble because hes a werewolf and is not supposed to have humans on their lands. He is forbidden to see Niev but she is his mate and of course he sneaks off and do it anyway. She ends up getting pregnant and he takes her home. Founds out that she has super healing powers and she is able to help the pack when they are attacked by another pack. I like that this story takes its time and doesn't jump to like years later at the end. I can't wait to read book 2!

Blake and Nieve's story is amazing. I loved the well written plot and the spice was chefs kiss. Nieve is a strong herion that does things her own way, while Blake is a marshmallow for her. If you want family drama, spice, love, action, and a good plot then this book is for you. This was a first book from the author for me but I will definitely read more in future.

All in all a well written book that I couldn't put down. Looking forward to more.

Even though I received an advance review copy for free, this is my personal, and unbaised opinion on this book. Ps. Just go do yourself a favor and go read it.

I've read Tanja's other PNR books and, to me, this one falls flat in comparison. Niev just accepted what Blake is, no real questions asked or any real fear.

However, even with the lack of shock and the immediate acceptance of everything thrown their way, the storyline is different from other PNR I've read.

Niev's power is unique. The way she found out about it and how she tested it, is something I've never read before. I hope we get her full backstory, find out about her birth parents and the reason for her power.

The epilogue is very interesting and this new character seems like he's going to be a huge issue for Niev and Blake.

Looking forward to seeing where this series goes.

This is the first time I’m reading a book from the author Tanja and may I just say she did not disappoint with this series (first book in the series).
She presents Niev a waitress who has a healing ability that prevents her from dying. Like she literally tried to prove that she can’t die. And Blake who is a cursed alpha with a pack who doesn’t respect him.
They meet literally in a weird way and we gotta thank Berta 🙏🏻😂.
I truly loved the slow-medium burn between the characters and the dual pov was the cherry on top❤️‍🔥.
The barriers that prevented their HEA were just juicy and honestly the book was captivating! Can’t wait for the next installment!

* The only con I have is that there were a large amount of typographical errors and grammar errors all throughout the book on almost every page. One of the characters names was also misspelled from Alizia to Aliza. I thought it was a nickname at first but it wasn’t consistent throughout the story, so I assume it’s a typo as well. That really threw me off a bit with how many errors there were but I was still able to enjoy the story.

One thing I really liked, is you had the option to read the epilogue with the cliffhanger or you could chose to not flip to the next page & leave on a happy note. Haha let’s be real, I read the cliffhanger. It definitely made me excited for the next book.

This world is different than previous shifter books I’ve read. I’m interested to learn more about Blake’s family dynamic & see how that plays out as things move along. I’m also interested to learn more about Niev’s power & history. There’s got to be a story there. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

This book is for you , it’s strangers to lovers and when I say such a refreshing read , I started and couldn’t stop , you see the trials they go through from being from two different world , but them being together no matter what happens . I can’t wait to read the next book , if you love seeing a relationship build while having spice / tension with a wonderful plot this is for you , I recommend over and over again .

Neiv and Blake were drawn to each other but she was a risk to his people. When the unexpected happened Blake had to bring her to his pack in the middle of an oncoming battle. Neiv being Blake’s mate, had a secret that could potentially help her new pack. The love between Niev and Blake was surrounded by fun, excitement, danger, skepticism, death, mystery, magic and life.

Loved this book! But head ups throw everything you know about real life out of the window when you start this book. This is an intriguing paranormal story line with strong characters. The reader will be drawn into this story from start to finish as the action intensifies. I enjoyed the story line and the characters. The characters were very lovable. I loved the supernatural aspect of the story.
