What an amazing Bible study! I chose this study because I felt stuck in my life, but my friends didn't exactly feel the same way. They chose to do this study to show their love and support for me. However, God knew it was just what they needed, as well. We all grew so much. Even if you don't necessarily feel "stuck" anyone can benefit from knowing what God desires from us and what the world just cannot give. <3
So many women feel stuck in their roles in the world - mother, sister, worker, wife, girlfriend, chef, chauffeur, disciplinarian. So many things in our lives can conveniently make a good excuse for not taking a closer look at our spiritual lives, and to focus on God who can give us a whole new perspective on our lives.
In a world that tells us to focus more on ourselves and what makes us feel good, God reminds us that a life not focused on Him and focused on satisfying our sinful, selfish desires leads to "stuck-ness"; a sense that our lives mean nothing, and life itself becomes dreary and humdrum as it churns along.
Jennie Allen has written a very poignant study to help pull us out of our "stuck-ness" and into a closer relationship with God and in turn, a closer relationship with ourselves, our children and our husbands.
Stuck Study is to the heart, very personal, well-written and articulated. Allen shares a bit of herself in each lesson to help illustrate her point and she pulls no punches about her failings and how the Lord has shown her these lessons that she's passing along to us. Each lesson has 4 focused projects which help us apply the spiritual lesson to our daily lives, and allows introspection and reflection on the lesson from the Scriptures.
In general, I found this study to be challenging and I looked forward to reading the next lesson.
My only negative comment would be the glossy pages. Gloss makes for good presentation, but pen ink smears on glossy surfaces and may not work as well for those who like to use pencil.\
I would highly recommend this study for individuals and for small and large groups. It is well worth the time and effort. There is simply no compromise for getting closer to God and examining our relationship with Him. The stronger our relationship with God, the more equipped we will be to be the wives, sisters, mothers, aunts, etc, that God has called us to be.
Love, love, love this study. Jennie Allen is straightforward and passionate about Jesus. This was my third time going through this study guide, this time along with the women's Bible study at my church. It is so powerful and never gets old. I highly recommend it!
Overall I loved this study! I have been working through this study with 11 girls in my home once a week. So many beautiful and true points to be learned and grow in. It’s been raw and life changing learning and walk along the side of other women. The study book itself I think could have been a little better, loved the dvd, but the meat is in the question cards/group discussion!! I definitely would recommend this study to any group of women but especially for a group that is just starting out!
Did this as a bible study. It was good, really made you dig into your own thoughts, habits, and beliefs. At times way heavier than I wanted. I felt like it was more a study of “me” not the Bible.
I have never read a Jennie Allen book or study before. I have really liked this study! I like how she picks a passage to dive into rather than jumping all over the place making our own interpretations which I often find in studies like these. I do feel unstuck, refreshed in hope, and free to live dependent on God in my weaknesses. John 15:1-17
“The vision is that we would see broken spots in our soul.” I received the leaders’ kit for this group Bible study program that contains a leader’s guide, a workbook, a DVD with eight video lessons, and a deck of conversation and scripture cards.
The Bible Study Meeting: The leader is reminded to listen, not lecture, and not to counsel. The lessons, except lesson one, are to be completed at home before the meeting. To do the lessons properly I would say they would probably take 30-45 minutes at home to study and complete. The homework discussion at the meeting should last 20-30 minutes.
The DVD lessons are very nicely produced. The speaker is engaging and the backgrounds in the video are very nice. The video and teaching should last 10-40 minutes.
There is a deck of cards that contain questions used as conversation starters. The cards for that week are set out and each lady chooses her favorite one. The scripture card for the week is also placed out. The ground rules for the card session are: 1. Be concise 2. Keep sharing confidential 3. Rely on scripture for truth 4. No counseling
Meeting attendees are reminded of these rules at each meeting. The women are then asked to “share” their answers to the question they chose. This session should last 30-75 minutes. I chose three questions randomly as examples: 1. What do you love more than God? 2. What things in your life right now get you down? 3. How has your past contributed to your stuck places?
The material as a whole is very good and we all want to be able to say “It is well with my soul.” I would say that this Bible study would appeal to young women, immature Christians, and not-yet believers seeking God for their lives. Jennie talks quite a bit about her life and her children in the DVD lessons, and I think this age group would find it most engaging. It is very much a feelings based study, and some of the sharing the women are asked to participate in is very personal. The fact that the leader is to remind them at each meeting that the conversation is confidential means that it could be very damaging if that confidentiality isn’t held.
The print in both the leader’s book and the study guide is gray instead of black and is very difficult to read. While lovely to look at, it is very hard on the eyes. My hope is that in later printings the print will be darkened.
With only eight lessons, I think this is a good way for women who feel they are stuck in their spiritual lives and to receive a needed push to move forward.
This study is not deserving of a bad rating, the five stars are truly earned, but I don't feel like I found it particularly enjoyable. It is great for pointing out your issues, labeling things you may already be aware of and maybe even pointing out some sin areas you weren't aware of. However, it's not a new look at or new ideas on how to FIX your sin. While I think this study is definitely beneficial, please don't pick it up thinking you'll feel incredibly joyful as you read. It's a deep, hard look at the walls we build that separate us from true freedom in Christ. The good news is, once we are aware of those things, we can begin giving them over to God and feel that true sense of freedom that has been won for us at the cost of Christ.
Enjoyed doing this study...wish the videos were a bit longer. This is not like a Beth Mooore study, so much simpler. Especially liked Project 1 in each chapter, where you draw a picture that relates to the scripture or topic at hand.
I did this Bible study a little over two years ago during a pivotal time in my life. I felt the Lord calling me to a specific purpose, and it had become heart-wrenching - I felt as if the Lord was asking me to step up so that He could use my testimony, I just had NO IDEA how. I literally wrote down a prayer in this book during this study that I refer back to often when I’m asked to speak, as it was this prayer that changed everything. God answered my prayer in the most unexpected AMAZING way (that only He could!) to allow me to co-write a book as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and how our faith helped us to overcome our circumstances. 4.5 Stars! Absolutely wonderful study! I did this study with a few friends and we all took so much away from it. Lots of underlined and highlighted parts throughout my book. In fact, we said it would be a good one to pull out and pursue again and again.
This is an open & honest look at our internal battles and the things we allow to hold us back from true freedom, peace, joy and a deeper walk with God. He truly is the answer and our hope!
Since I am using the audio book and using the online study guide, this may have affected my review. While I love the simple truths about what causes us to get “stuck” in our walking the day to day paths, I was distracted by the audio noises in the background while Jennie was speaking. I will take time to stop and assess what is causing my restless spirit.
Simplistic and profound. No self-destruction required. It's a study that encouraged me to gather my broken pieces and hand them over. Finally. Like a mom whispering in my here, "Honey, let it go. Give it to me."
Bought this for a bible study at church and wasn't overly thrilled with it. I was used to Beth Moore or other more intense studies so maybe I just had higher expectations. Or maybe I'm just not "stuck" :)
Great book. Upon first looking i didn't think much applied to me. However Jennie has a way of writing and speaking that makes you biblical take a closer look in evaluating yourself. This helped me see areas i am stuck and focus on being more aware.
Read this with my bible study group. It was good, but didn’t delve too deeply into religion. I made me stop, take time and exam myself which was something I needed to do.
Our lives would be so much better, simpler, happier, if we only let God take the reins and steer our path. Great read for Christians and non-Christians who are looking for a less stressed life.
Stuck is how this study describes areas of our lives that keep us from God. The leadership kit includes: a DVD (broken in 10 or fewer minutes per session); a Leader’s Guide (Leadership preparation, tips, and cautions with session format options and goals for each week); Conversation Starter Cards (reflective questions and a key verse for each session); and a Study Workbook (weekly study with verses and projects to gain an understanding of the topic being discussed).
We are all stuck in some area of our lives. We must admit no one is as perfect as they seem, and when confronted with these imperfections we either try to rebel or to hide it. Admitting our sin and humbling ourselves is the first step towards freeing ourselves to what God can give us and wants to give us. God in His grace gave us His Word so that we can free ourselves.
We must be broken in spirit so that we can be freed from what is holding us back and be made whole in God. If life were as it ought to be no one would have any rights except the right of death and hell. We must let go of our anger so that we can bridge the divide that we have erected between ourselves and God. We need to remember that Jesus gave up His rights to save us, so how can we do less? A spirit of humility allows us to let go of our self proclaimed rights and the discontent that is making us soul-sick. To free ourselves of the sin of jealousy and comparison we must rejoice in what God has given others and adopt an attitude of service.
When we become trapped in our fears and worries we find no joy in what God has given us, we must give up these idols that we have created and trust God. When we turn to God He will keep us from being overwhelmed by life because we are listening to His voice instead of our own or the world’s. When we place our hopes and expectations in Him we will never be sad for long for He has given us what we need. But until we die to our wants we will remain stuck.
We must turn our wants over to God so that we can desire what He has for us. When God becomes central to our lives we become unstuck and can grow in Him.
This is a truly exceptional study and is perfect for a group of any size, though it is geared for a group setting of 8. All the components work to together for a life-changing experience if we come to it with an open ready to be changed and released from the quagmire of life.

Are you STUCK? I’ve enjoyed the opp to review of Jennie Allen’s beautifully packaged dvd based 8 week study of the places we, as women, get stuck & the God who sets us free... The package includes the dvd with sessions being under 10 min study notebook presenting the material for the theme of the week, allowing for advance prep enabling in depth group interaction~ participants have 4 choices of projects directed at applying the week’s scripture which provide additional discussion interest of the project experiences. An intriguing addition to the package is the deck of cards. Intended to ask questions for reflection on the week’s theme of stuck, broken, mad, sad, discontent, scared, overwhelmed, unstuck, and to initiate deeper conversation on one’s state of growth or current area of being stuck. fascinating! Jennie’s underlying principle for STUCK ? “I believe growing in our perspective of who God is and what God has for us changes the way we view our past hurts and current struggles. Nothing is more powerful than God getting bigger in our lives. God has the power to heal with a word. My goal as you walk through STUCK is that God would get bigger for you, and {as this occurs}, you would see a new way to do life, lead by God’s Spirit.” more resources are available from the online site www.MyStuckResources.com including bookmarks, posters, brochure inserts... If you’re looking for a participatory product that meaningfully moves women beyond a typical study group, this just might be worth your second look ! Be Blessed in your journey to a Spirit led life...

Stuck is a great study, challenging us to focus on God and His plans for us. Jennie is trying to help us to identify the places we are STUCK (many times numb to the fact) and recognize that we need help and that GOD is here to help us. But just saying we want to get UNstuck from our being mad, broken, discontent, scared, overwhelmed, etc. is not going to change our situation. Stuck is an interactive study where we ask, who are you, Lord, where are you and what do you want from me and how am I going to change and become the person you (GOD) made me to be. Jenni challenges us to act, to evaluate and measure our lives according to scripture. I love that she uses scripture in every chapter and she encourages us to reflect & journal as we move forward out of our stuck positions to truly know God. Included in this package is a DVD w/short segments for each lesson, a package of "ice-breaker" type cards (which many of mine were cut incorrectly and only half the words were on there, but there were enough cards to get the point across), and a leader's guide. I would recommend this for a small group. *I received this book from Booksneeze, the review is my opinion, and I did not receive any compensation for my review. http://www.thomasnelson.com/
So many of us live stuck. Stuck in trying to seem perfect. Stuck in sadness. Stuck feeling numb. Stuck pursuing more stuff to make us happy. Stuck in something we can't even name. The eight lessons in this study guide are simple and interactive, offering projects, stories, and Bible study to dig into Scripture, to deeply engage the mind and heart. Because as we realize that our stuck places are the very places that make us ache for God, we find Him waiting there for us with hope and freedom. Goodread Desription
Loved this study. Was thinking it would be repetitive of other studies I had done, but it was not. She gives great insight on how to look at being stuck, what makes us stuck and how to become unstuck. Very practical and certainly help me to grow.
This book is best used with the DVD created by Jennie Allen containing a series of short (7 minute) thought provoking presentations addressing areas where women tend to get stuck emotionally. This little workbook could stand alone, but the DVD is so beautifully produced and rich with stories and Jennie's gentle call to a better way. I used both this book and the DVD to spark discussion with a small group of women on transforming negative emotions like fear, anger, anxiety, jealousy, hurt. I was surprised how quickly thee women opened up and were willing to share their stories and concerns. I believe the chapters in this book, the questions and suggested activities all served to take my group on a journey to wholeness. I highly recommend it for women's groups - but keep the group small, you'll want everyone to have a chance to share as we all get unstuck together.
