A warrior with a scarred heart who doesn’t know how to love. And the woman who must teach him how before it’s too late…
The son of the evil AllFather, Xairn is filled with conflicting emotions. On one hand, he has finally gained his freedom and cut the ties that bound him to his race and the sadistic male who is his father. But doing so has unleashed feelings in him Xairn would rather keep buried. Desires that he prayed would never manifest now rage through him and they are centered on one woman alone…
Lauren Jakes is the long lost cousin Liv and Sophie never knew they had. Abducted by the Scourge, she formed a connection with Xairn more meaningful than any other in his life. But though Lauren thinks she knows him, there is more to the huge Scourge warrior than she comprehends. A nightmare childhood and a cruel father have scarred Xairn’s heart almost past the point of healing. But that is nothing to the secret inside him—the forbidden desires coded into his very DNA itself, which urge him to commit unspeakable acts in order to sate his newly awakened hunger.
Now a conflict is brewing—both in Xairn’s soul, and aboard the Fathership where the twisted AllFather has hatched a new, malicious plot to bring his estranged son home. Can Xairn resist the brutal lust growing within him? Can he fight against his very nature which urges him to dominate and control any female he mates? Can Lauren heal his heart before the AllFather’s trap closes on both of them? And can she teach him how to love before it’s too late?
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
This book has raised the inevitable question. Do I need to make a new shelf? Although there were only two people in the relationship, Lauren and Xairn, there is his extra cock to consider, do I make a new shelf for those heroes so well endowned that just one cock won't cut it? And what do I call it if I do? I am thinkng two-cock-delight or double-banana-surprise...
But despite the horrible shelf dilemma it has caused I LOVED this book, definitely the best book in the series. This book carries on almost straight away from Sought. Xairn has taken Lauren and himself to get their DNA changed so the AllFather can't find them. But the AllFather is no longer after Lauren anymore, he now wants Xairn back as part of a diabolical plan to gain immortality.
What I loved most about this book? Xairn, I just wanted to cuddle him close to my quivering bosom, then have him put me over his knee and spank for being such a bad naughty girl. I never thought that a grey skinned, red eyed and double cocked alien would ever float my boat, but seriously Xairn floats a whole fleet of my boats and then some. He manages to be vulnrable yet tough and protective; drop dead gorgous yet not realize it and tortured but not whingey. Ode to Xairn (the abbreviated version) is now finished.
Now lets start on Lauren who is by far my favourite heroine in the series. Unlike the other crazy chicks in this series she realizes she loves Xairn quickly and doesn't try and fight it, instead she tries to make her relationship with her warrior work; this endeared her to me massively. I mean I don't get why would you resist being bonded with such perfect men? It irked me in the other books; I wanted to get some serious slappage down with Liv, Sophia and Kat, what is wrong with them? When a sexy, honorable, devoted-to-you alien with a giant love stick knocks on your door (or beams you to his spaceship) you DO NOT run away, you start riding the love train as soon as you possibly can! *takes deep beath* right rant over, back to the book!
As this is an erotica book, I should talk about the sex. Honestly, there isn't as much as you would think, and it mainly occurs towards the end of the book. What Found does is build up the sexual tension between Xairn and Lauren until eventually it explodes. It is hot and it is kinky if you like a little bit of BDSM you will definitely be panting by the end.
This book also continues the story between the Kindred and the Scrouge, led by the AllFather, Xairn's father. I liked this story, it has kept the books in this series tied together and now that this has been concluded, I wonder if there will be anything similar to tie future books together. I know that this was originally supposed to be the last book in the Kindred series but I can see at least the potential for two more books and I really hope thar Ms Anderson continues to write books in the Kindred universe. This has been one of my favourite series this year it is something a little different, romance-erotica-scifi is not something you come across everyday and each book has drawn me in and left me wanting more.
Found was suppose to be the story that just made my heart melt. The plot and characters had the potential to be an awesome read to rival the last three books. The possibilities alone had me foaming at the mouth to get my hands on it, I had to have it. Well let me tell you, I would have rather not have found out that there was a fourth book if I had known it was going to be like this. I've always been a fan of Anderson's dirty mind. The first three Kindred books were all nail bitters with the character relationship dynamics. I fell in love with them all, Xairn was even one of my favorites. Just knowing that there would be a book written for him had me happy dancing. The cherry on top was knowing that the main character's name was Lauren!
I thought “this is going to be great because my own wombmate's name is Lauren. I can tease her later about falling in love with the bad boy.” Let me tell you again how wrong I was.
Found started off with a bang; I loved the beginning. You could really get a sense of the characters. It didn't seem like it would be a hardship to finish the story if it stayed that suspenseful. Unfortunately, it didn't. Once they set off for Earth things became so boring I wanted to cry. Xairn and Lauren became absolutely boring!
They finally admitted that they love each other and it kind of spoils everything. Lauren is convinced that Xairn would never hurt her. Xairn is so sure he will harm the woman that he loves so he keeps himself mentally and physically shut out of their relationship. He still wants her, but his Scourge urges that make him want to dominate her in some hot and heavy BDSM don't allow him to act on his wants. You can guess what that leads to, sexual frustration. After the hundredth time they said “I love you, but we can't.” I stopped feeling sorry for them. Then at the very very end when things finally come together and they get what they both want (to “Bond”). It can't even be considered domination! If dark all dominating sex is nothing but a spanking and being tied to the bed there are a lot of freaky kinky people in the world. The story line was predictable because it followed the story line of the last three books. Kindred men are sexy but kind of dumb when it comes to taking what they wanted in the first place.
Honestly, if I had known this was a soppy love story where there would just be “I love you.” followed by “I love you too much to ever hurt you.” I wouldn't have picked it up. The conversations seemed so forced to me. All the fun characters were downplayed to the point that I was so happy when Nadiah and Detective Rast's POV came into the storyline I could scream. Not to mention if I had to read Lauren calling Xairn “Baby.” again I would lose it. What was it with the pet names anyway? First it was the Beast Kindred's Lilenta. Then the Blood kindred have Talana. Twin kindred say M'lady. Scourge have no terms of endearment so it was up to the human to come up with one? Mhhh. But even the nickname Lauren put to the big bad Scourge couldn't frustrate me more than the ending. Oh my God the ending!
Xairn is the only one who can compete with his father. It has been building up for the past three books so you're going to think finally! It was predicted by the Goddess after all that this was to be an epic battle. Basically I was prepared for an explosive battle only to get a little puff of smoke. Very disappointing. To top all this off the typos were just as consistent as the “I love yous.” It is one thing for this to be a manuscript or and ARC, that is expected because it isn't a completely finished product. This story was put up for sale as a finished book. The whole story was long and painful at times only to seem rushed at others. Now there are to be two more Kindred books which I am hesitant about reading. Overall Found wasn't my favorite Kindred story. From the plot to the characters I feel there just wasn't as much thought put into this one unlike the other three. Hopefully the next in the series will be better.
I have to say Evangeline Anderson should have subtitled this book the Periles of Pauline (or Lauren as it were)....Once again Evangeline Anderson has "Found" another hit in her slightly wacky, sci-fi/futuristic erotic romance series. As a self admitted non-fan of futuristic novels, I was very pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable this series is. It contains the requisite hot, alpha male hero(es) and strong, feisty heroine. The relationship between Lauren Jakes and Xairn is intense, at times sappy in it's lovey sweetness and frustrating at times with Xairn's denial of his true Scurge Dominant self. You have to love Lauren's strength and fortitude - she overcomes kidnapping, torture, falling for the son of the evil AllFather, escape, near re-capture and sale into sexual slavery, DNA alteration, having body parts removed and return to Earth only to battle her love's deep seated fear of exercising his Dominant sexual self and refusal to take their relationship to the next level! Xairn even gets creative in his desire to switch roles and make Lauren the Dom in an effort to consummate their relationship! Sexy, tantalizing love scenes, with just enough kink to flip anyone's switch pepper throughout the story but Anderson teases both her poor Lauren as well as the reader by making them wait through a large portion of this story to get to some truly hot lovin! The sex is actually integral to the plot in that Xairn is coming into his great powers and also redefining his life as a Scourge who sheds some, but not all, of his upbringing and genetic makeup as well as his truly evil overlord father.
Some of the best parts of this story bring back former characters and the way Anderson builds on the previous story arcs really fleshes out the world and makes it feel like an ongoing saga. Deep and Lock finally get the super hot menage loving with Kat long awaited from book 3 and Sylvan's wedding "luck kiss" between Nadiah and Rast is smokin hot....totally makes up for the slightly anti-climatic final battle with the AllFather.
I highly recommend Found and the Brides of the Kindred series to anyone who is not familiar with Evangeline Anderson's work. Her stories are amazing and definitely addicting!! Please do take Tyra's advice and read IN ORDER. If you jump into one of the later books such as Sought or Found without the lead in, you will be completely lost for quite some time.
Another great book to add to this series. I have said in earlier reviews that I love Xairn, and this book just made me love him even more.
The book starts with Xairn and Lauren arriving at the planet, where they can get their DNA changed. This will stop the All Father from being able to track them down. The planet Oah is creepy as hell, filled with violence and sexual slavery. The people there cut off women's fingers and use them to make clones, to sell. *shudders*
Lauren lands herself in some serious trouble, which leads some really amazing scenes and odd characters. It was a fascinating journey for them. I liked that although their DNA change altered Xairns appearance, she still preferred the old him, with the scary red eyes and grey skin. Their love was so strong, way before anything physical happened between them.
This brings me to the only big negative I had with this book...
I absolutely adore Xairn, I really do. But the way he was going on about not wanting to hurt her that his sexual desires would be too much for her to bare got old, really fast. I was starting to get annoyed with him. He was so desperate to be with her and loves her very much, but every time they got close to having sex, he shouted like a banshee and runs off to the toilet to finish himself off. Not attractive, Xairn.
That just kept happening over and over again. It was really frustrating.
Once Xairn had confronted his father, things started to look up.
What was with the insanely sexy scene between Kat, Lock and Deep? That was way hotter than anything they did in their own book. Baffled me!
It was great to see Nadiah (Sylvan's cousin) again, learning that she has the gift of Sight (visions). Nadiah arrives for Sophie and Sylvan's wedding, telling them all how she has run away from home and the arranged marriage/bonding she was about to be forced into by her parents. She has been having visions of kissing her dream-man. The man that will come back to her home planet and challenge the other male for her, to break the bond that she never wanted. She kisses Detective Rast in the Luck Kiss, thinking he is Sylvan's Kindred friend, and he's perfect. Until she discovers that he's just a human... or is he?
They have great chemistry and I loved that they make each other crazy.
'A mocking smile curved one side of his mouth. "You want to slap me, is that it? Go ahead, sweetheart take your best shot." Nadiah's hand shot out before she could stop herself and she did just that. The flat smack of her palm against his cheek seemed inordinately loud... His true green eyes filled with surprise. "Ow, that's quite a punch you're packing. Didn't really think you'd do it."' LOL I can't wait to read their book next. Rast seems like a great guy, even though he can be a bit of an arsehole sometimes :)
There were so many things going on in this book that I could write for hours, but I won't, don't worry. LOL Loved it :)
I am so glad that I stuck with this series and held out for the story of Xairn and Lauren! This book in the series is what I was hoping for. There was a good plot, the story flowed smoothly and Lauren was the type of heroine that I enjoy. She knew that she was attracted to Xairn, saw his flaws and struggles, accepted them and still wanted him for what he is. Lauren doesn't question her desire for Xairn or fight her attraction to the point of brattiness, she embraces it and sets out to get her man. Well, her hot, sexy, grey skinned, alien male.Now what Xairn is is a dominant alpha Scourge with a double penis and a penchant for total sexual domination. You read that right. Double penis. I don't know where Anderson gets her inspiration, but one dangly bit per male is all I would personally want to handle, but hey, variety is the spice of life.When reading this series one really has to keep an open mind and suspend belief when it comes to anatomy. If you are squeamish about such things this is probably not the series for you. Lauren just has her work cut out for her convincing Xairn that what he needs from her she is willing and able to give. Xairn is willing to embrace her love but is fearful of accepting her total submission to his sexual needs.
I have desperately held onto this series to get to this book and I am glad that I did, but I think that I will step away and read a few different books before I come back to it; and I believe that I will come back. This just seems to be a good place to stop and I want to leave with a happy memory. There are many more spin off stories told in this series that I hope will be interesting as well. This one ends with Nadia as the focus and book 5 will be her story. I would like to see how things play out with her and Rast. There's definitely something that has to happen to make Rast a good match for Nadia and it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
This novel had a 3 star rating and my goodwill despite some genuine flaws in the quality until I read the book's last paragraph. I hate shocking, surprising, out-of-nowhere soap-operesque cliffhanger endings. It just feels like a gimmick intended to force me to read the next book and I would buy/read the next book anyways because I'm pretty fond of this series.
"Found" was a tough book for me to rate because there were things I genuinely liked about it, but it also contained elements that either disturbed or annoyed me. There were truly moments I couldn't peel myself away from the read, but at other times I experienced yawning, roll-eyes, and thinking, "same ol', same ol'."
One of Anderson's greatest strengths is her imaginative world-building and it has worked really well for the "Brides of the Kindred" series. The series' overall premise, the types of alien characters and their cultures, technological gizmos and exotic alien creatures ... all of this has really "absorbed" me and entertained me. I'm not even a huge fan of Sci-Fi/Fantasy fiction, but I really like these books. Maybe the sci-fi/fantasy elements are "just right," not overdone, but still present enough to engage me.
About half the action of "Found" takes place in space (planet O'ah, the Kindred Mother Ship, the Scourge Mother Ship, etc.) and I had to keep reading because there was always something new and interesting to read about.
I especially liked how Anderson introduced all sorts of situations permitting Lauren and Xairn to interact together and really get to know each other prior to the initiation of their romantic/sexual relationship. They experience danger, hardship, and some fun together first and I enjoyed discovering that.
Unfortunately, much of the novel's tension and excitement "fizzled out" when Xairn returned Lauren to Earth. I was hoping to read some fun things about Xairn acclimating to Earth life and culture. Instead, he more or less understands and accepts everything around him with no funny mix-ups as in earlier books where Kindred brides tried to figure out their new surroundings.
Instead, the book's second half fizzled out into my least favorite of Anderson's standard tropes. Lauren spends most of the time trying to seduce the man she loves while Xairn puts her off with chronic, unceasing self-loathing and fear of his own BDSM desires. He "loves Lauren too much." He can't expose her to his "perversions." He is a horrible person, born of a defective, evil, perverted race, his BDSM urges are savage, uncivilized, and potentially harmful, and he could NEVER degrade Lauren that way.
And this goes on and on and on. AND ON. through most of the book. It's just sad and disappointing.
Another element that proved both good and not-so-good for this novel was Anderson's choice to depict Xairn as an adult survivor of child abuse. Traditionally, many romance authors steer clear of primary characters with histories of abuse or other family dysfunction. It doesn't "sell well" and detracts from the romantic elements of romantic fiction. I admire Anderson for being willing to go here and examine the impact cruelty and abuse may have on an adult's personal life. In some ways, Xairn's character is totally realistic. Maybe too realistic. All we see is lots of guilt, low self-esteem, self-hatred, and determination to "save" Lauren from his "undesireable" DNA. Anderson showcases these troubles in the "love conquers all" trope I found truly horrible. The idea that "true love" saves people from everything horrible that's ever happened to them just isn't real or pleasant to read. Xairn isn't a man who can live happily ever after simply because he's found the love of his life.
Anderson throws us tidbits about previous couples from the earlier books and introduces new characters. I enjoyed the interaction between Rast and Nadiah because it was different from earlier matches in this series. Rast isn't a-bowing and a-scraping to Nadiah simply because she is female. Originally I liked his skepticism concerning Nadiah's psychic abilities, but it reached Level Ridiculous due to lazy writing. There comes a time when a smart person simply accepts that someone is who s/he says they are because the proof is overwhelming. Still, if Anderson writes this couple's book when she feels good and ready to write it, I think it'll be very good.
Another "plus" in the book was the erotica got (at least a bit) toned down. OK, Anderson writes erotica, mostly very good erotica, but I enjoyed that the sexy bits "flowed" well with the story and didn't necessarily read like they'd been thrown in as "filler" just so readers have X number pages of erotica to read in a super plus novel word count. Most of the erotic scenes were credible, sexy, and only one struck me as overwritten. Anderson does a great job with developing tension and building a strong relationship between Lauren and Xairn before they become lovers.
Parts of this books struck me as rushed and a bit threadbare. I felt like Anderson got a bit bored with this series in "Sought" (third book) and was just dutifully plodding through it, telling us lots and showing us less. I'm glad she's giving herself a break from the series before tackling the next book and I believe the series will be better because of it. Editorial quality could have been much better as well, but I'm willing to forgive a little substandard editorial for a terrific story.
Compared to comparable books of its type and cost, "Found" is a good installment to the "Brides of the Kindred" series. It's not a good stand-alone book and I don't recommend it to readers who haven't read the earlier books.
This book was stuck for many weeks as currently reading, so I forced myself to finish aiming to clear this shelf and make room for books I hoped I would enjoy better. I hate to give up on my readings, so I skipped a few pages up to the end. Found didn’t work for me, and I can’t say I was very disappointed, for the series up to here seemed just OK for me anyway. It had some potential with the bad guy turning from evil to an honorable path. But doing that would require much more than we find here, not everyone can skillfully accomplish it, building a likeble and believable character. Too bad.
Sorry to disagree with a lot of you folks, but sometimes it's a good experience to find yourself with the minority. So on to the next, hoping for better.
This is my favourite in series. A lot goes on and most of previous character jump in and out of the story. I really liked that Lauren is the go get him type and Xairn was the one putting the brakes on the relationship. There's parts in book the are difficult to read and are upsetting but the story is great and love the HEA for Lauren and Xairn. Looking forward to Nadiah and detective Rash
Wow~! Best Kindred! I loved the angst and romantic tension offered in this book. LOVE THE LENGTH! Anderson continues to introduce new characters and intrigue through sub-plots that are super-enjoyable. I can't wait until she writes books 5&6! I'm a big sci-fi/paranormal fan and this author includes all that's fun with that: world-building, warring, protection, good vs. evil, it's all there in a book for $3. She's RUINED me for more expensive books! Nice.
Lauren is the long-lost cousin of Liv and Sophie and finds herself the "cure" for the Scourge. Inhumanely held prisoner aboard their spaceship, she establishes a tentative bond with the son of her captor, Xairn. His Kindred blood wars with his Scourge side as he yearns for the love she offers him. Can he overcome his violent genetics to love her?
This was a great installment that made my Kindle hit my face again (that'll happen at 1AM). I finally finished it this morning and cannot wait for books 5&6 next year. Maybe I can actually get a good nights sleep finally!
Found by Evangeline Anderson #4 Brides of Kindred Series
In book#3 we saw Lauren and Xairn escape the Allfather. Book #4 continues on with their story. Both on the run from the Allfather, Xairn takes them to another planet to have their DNA altered in an attempt to fool the molecule abduction beam.
They face new dangers and threats on this planet but the biggest challenge is for Lauren to be able to break through the barbaric upbringing and hardened exterior of Xairn to open up his heart.
Xairn holds back his feeling for Lauren to keep her safe. He knows he is dangerous and the lingering threat of his father plays at the forefront of his mind. If he was to give in to his primal needs and carnal desires he would need Laurens full submission and that would mean risking everything!
Meanwhile, the detective Adam is still back on earth searching for Lauren. He reluctantly & sceptically accepts the help of Nadia’s gift of sight. Their story will continue in the next instalment in the series Book#5
MY THOUGHTS:
I was borderline ready to give up and abandon this series but tried to give Evangeline the benefit of the doubt hoping she’d bring home the goods in Xairn and Lauren’s story but I was left disappointed.
I am confused, so very confused. Book#3 was so ridiculously farfetched with its strange erotic sex scenes yet this book seems like a nursery rhyme in comparison. Yes, ok there was some elements of BDSM in this but you practically have to wait till the end of the book to get the action. It’s like chalk and cheese in comparison and found myself checking the cover numerous times making sure I was reading from the same author/ series. Evangeline turned the heat down like right down!
There was defiantly more depth in this book than the last, dealing with more sensitive issues e.g. Xairn’s traumatic childhood and abuse from his father, inner demons and conflicting emotions hence the 3 stars but really got frustrated with the slow build up that seemed to never end.
Indecisive about whether to continue on with the series at this point. I may reconsider and revisit the series at a later date.
GENRE: Sci Fi Erotic Romance NARRATION: Dual POV BOOK DETAILS: Book #4 of Kindred Bride Series AUDIO AVAILABLE – Whisper- sync ready
DO I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK? Undecided. If you have been enjoying this series to date, then I would say keep going but if you are like me and have been procrastinating over it maybe come back a retry after a break. This book is not for you if you cannot handle domination by the alpha male or back door entry.
Narrated by: Jodie Bentley Length: 15 hrs and 16 mins
This is the longest audiobook in the series to date and we have a new narrator. It was nice to hear a fresh voice in the series, noting against Ana Johnstonbrown, she was great but it was time for a new voice. Jodie is a new female narrator for me and has now placed in my top 5 female narrators, her portrayed so many different voices all with their own distinguishing sound.
I think I broke my own record with this book, because it took me waaaaaay too long to read this. I mean, I read Atlas Shrugged quicker than this one!! There are, of course, reasons that it took me so long. For one, I'm an accountant, and we're closing our fiscal year right now. Which means I literally LIVE at work. For another, it's Christmastime, which means I've been out spending money like the baller I'm not and enjoying time with my friends and family. HOWEVER, if I was really really into this book, I would have found the time to read it. But I didn't, so... I just can't say that I loved this one.
So, FOUND is the story of Lauren and Xairn. Lauren is the girl that actually-factually fulfilled the Scourge prophesy and Xairn is the Scourge male that saved her life and fell for her. If you don't know: the Scourge are the bad guys. So this is kind of a redemption tale for Xairn. His race has this horrible character trait of wanting to completely dominate their women. I know, right? How vile and disgusting!! (Note: the ladies of this series are really ridiculous. Just... really.) Anywayzzz, Xairn and Lauren try to make this sex-less relationship work because he's too scared that he will hurt her. Well, we can all figure out how that works, right? Correct! It doesn't!
I just felt like it took for-EV-er to get through this one. If I had to read about how Xairn "needed to leave for her own good" because his "dominate nature would end up hurting her" I was gonna start pulling hairs out of my head. We were reminded of this at LEAST once every two chapters and it was just... UGH. Stop.
Lauren was pretty cool, actually. I can safely say she's my favorite heroine of the series so far. However, I think I'm gonna like Nadiah (sp?) as well. The few little scenes with her and Detective Rast (the two that will be the H/h of the next book) were really good. I was more interested in their interaction than anything else.
So, this book had potential for sure. I just feel like it never really got to the place I wanted. Oh, well. It was still pretty entertaining and did not thwart my plans to continue this series in the slightest.
This one went a lot faster for me than the book before it. If you saw my review for "Sought", you would know that I had been complaining about how long it took me to read it. I also found this book less chaotic, more consistent, and not a mixed bag where my ratings changed throughout the course of the book. So I guess you could say I liked this book a tad better?
The beginning of the book was so unique, creative, and interesting. If it had been that way for the whole book, I might have rated it 5 stars but definitely 4.
Thankfully, unlike Olivia, Sophia, and Kat, Lauren actually wanted to be with her alien guy! And didn't push him away...thank you! If I had to read one more book with that plot point... However, Xairn was the one pushing her away because he was afraid to hurt her as the Scourge were known for their depraved sexual practices, which included BDSM (which isn't depraved) but apparently they did other things according to what Xairn knew. Though maybe he was misinformed because Kat heard differently--that most Scourge females actually enjoyed and found sexual pleasure in their relationships and were naturally submissive with the males being dominant. Lauren and Xairn declared their love for each other pretty early on in the book. I can't help thinking though that Xairn probably would have fallen in love with any pretty, human girl who was nice to him who had been captured...since he wasn't familiar, had never met many females. Also, Lauren calling him "honey" was maybe an odd touch that reminded me of Laurann Dohner's books.
The final battle between the AllFather takes place in this book. I cried when the
We also finally get the menage scene that everyone was waiting for (double penetration) between Kat and the twins. In each book in this series, the previous couple get a detailed sex scene. Oh, and Xairn had two penises...one a smaller shaft that would expand to be even larger than the secondary one that was only used for bonding, and the secondary shaft (the normal penis). Only both are used for bonding sex, which is double penetration.
There was at least one error in the book that needed better editing. The book had Xairn say it, when really it was Deep calling Xairn the coward.
I do hope these books improve though--even though I liked it at 3 stars, I want to give (aka read a 4 star book) 4. I also noticed how my average rating dropped 0.01 to 3.81 after I changed the rating of "Birthday Girl" to two stars.
I was more excited for Nadiah and Rast's book earlier... just saying
Main characters: Xairn and Lauren Type of bonding: Scourge
Another really good book in the series. Xairn is Allfather's son, the evil leader of Scourge. Allfather kidnapped Lauren in order to breed with her but Xairn fell in love with her in the previous book and he saved her from his father. Lauren is Olivia and Sophia's lost cousin. The book starts very intensely. Xairn takes Lauren to planet O'ah in order to alter her DNA and return her safely to earth. In O'ah, the natives may kill you, cut you in small pieces and sell your DNA, if you are exotic enough and Laura is. So, she gets herself into trouble when a weird guy named Blix sets his eyes on her. Great adventure in this planet! When Xairn and Lauren return to Earth with both their DNA altered, they can not help it lusting for each other. Only Xairn tries to hold himself back because he is afraid of Lauren's safety. Apparently a Scourge can be satisfied sexually only if he has the total submision of his mate in a D/S relationship. To be honest the sexual tension and the whole situation between Xairn and Lauren was building up and building up and building up until I was about to scream out of frustration. I wanted to shout "come on guys, get to the point and finally get done with it". But I had to wait until the very end of the book for it... The Kindred world that Anderson has built is really fascinating. I particularly like that most Kinder inventions are actually living organisms. For example when Xairn was hurt in planet O'ah, Lauren used the 'Goddess of mercy bandage' which was a living bandage applied to the wound. It was impressive. Oh well, off to the next book :)
Ok ladies, what can't you understand about this statement "Don't leave the shuttle it's dangerous outside of the shuttle in this part of the market". Of course, that means, please leave the moment I leave. And, please allow strangers into the shuttle. You are from Earth so of course everyone you met is going to be a nice sentient alien only interested in benign conversation with you. You should not fear people/aliens you have never met because they would never want to harm you. They all follow Star Trek's Prime Directive. The writing was more complex, so I appreciated that, however, as usual, the women in these stories are a bunch of morons. Once again, how about getting women from Earth to volunteer. Maybe you'll get a better batch of intellect.
This book was not like the others in the series. There was no real humor like the previous books. Too much crying in this one, every time I got reading someone had a freaking tear in their eye.. The relationship was really frustrating too me also. Xairn couldn't have sex with Lauren because he was scared to lose control and have his darker side take over, but i swear it felt like she constantly pawed him and when he snapped and started to be a bit rough she starts too panic. Xairn gets upset with himself and she wonders why he is running off. Lauren got on my nerves. This was a good portion of the book, it was very frustrating. I mean the book started out good then it started to go down hill .... Fast.
I was looking forward to this installment as the male hero (son of the big bad villain) and the heroine already grew close to my heart in the previous books. He flees with a girl from earth and to get his father off tracks they change their DNAs just enough to be undetectable and hide on earth.
As usual the protagonists were lovable and their story quite nice, the sexy bits were sexy, even though I found his special equipment (read it for yourself to find out... ;-) ) a bit weird but not too wild, turned out useful in the end...
There was also a nice (aka hot) scene between the threesome coupla of the previous book, which was a nice re-encounter with them.
I was never really caught up in their story and a lot was quite freseeable but all in all in was an entertaining read.
Would luvs to write a review on this one, but I'm WAY too busy building my spaceship so I can find the Kindred's mother ship so I can be CLAIMED!! *SWOON* They won't find this human bride fighting them in ANY way!!! This is my fav of the Brides of the Kindred series!! I luvs Xairn!! Highly recommend this one!!
4.5 Stars for this Beauty and the Beast IRR alien romance. Lauren and Xairn are both lost souls that find one another in the midst of turmoil, suspense and emotions. The hero Xairn and his grey skinned beast looking self is definitely boyfriend material. Although I liked how Lauren was single minded about her feelings for Xairn, she totally got on my nerves because she was oblivious to her surroundings and bad people. All and all I enjoyed it.
I was annoyed. Annoyed with a soft but supposedly ruthless self doubting hero and the heroine trying to save him. Annoyed with divine intervention. Annoyed.
I am the first to admit that I love an alien romance, the more bananas the better, so when someone said “You will like Evangaline Anderson, Found has an alien with 2 penises.” Needless to say I downloaded it immediately. While I expected steamy sex (the aforementioned penises) I did not expect a robust plot and well developed characters.
Xairn, our alien, has rescued human Lauren from his evil father, the AllFather, who kidnapped her. Now that they are on their way back to Earth, there are a few things in their way to an HEA. Namely a creepy planet where they splice off parts to clone people, Xairn fighting his bonding with Lauren and the AllFather hunting them.
I really liked Xairn. He was a great mix of sweet, caring, grump that when he got all alpha was even better. When he let his Dom out, I was all for it! I enjoyed that Lauren would not give up on him. She saw that there were hurtles in their relationship (besides the fact he’s a gray alien) like the self hatred he has, the fear he harbors towards being a monster but she is determined to make their relationship work.
The sex! Obviously the sex was a big part of the book. Xairn fighting his need to dominate Lauren when she in fact wanted it was a large part of their relationship. I wanted to just yell at them to talk it out! There was a surprising amount of feelings and slow burn on the main couple which I understood, Lauren was trying to get Xairn used to any kind of touching not being sexual. The author tossed us a bone (pun intended) in a super sexy scene with the twin characters from the previous book to hold us over until the main characters sealed the deal.
The downside of Found is it was longer than I expected and while I liked the different plots and side characters I was feeling a bit like they were consuming the main romance. Of course it ends in a cliffhanger so I had to add the next book to my TBR.
Book four, Xairn is son of the SCOURGE ALLFATHER and he has stolen the kidnapped bride to be Lauren Jakes cousin of Sophia and Olivia who are brides of kindred Warriors who have saved earth from the scourge or protect the earth any way since the war between kindred and scourge still continues on...
in book 3 Sought Lauren Jakes was kidnapped by the Scourge Allfather she is a prophecy written years ago who is suppose to be the bride of the ALLFATHER scourge leader. Anyone who he touches ends up dead, he is wicked, a parasite who feeds off others fears, saddness any negative emotion, leaving a shell of a person with no soul in the end dead but the scourge have it bread in them to be sadist too and not just bdsm I mean SADIST SERIAL PARASITE KILLER, brutal. But Lauren is to redeem the now all male scourge race and breed females, in the last book Xairn stole Lauren from the Allfather he so desperately wanted to be free of himself. His own father the ALLFATHER has fed on him since a child. Xairn has nothing left for his father to feed on though.. he is dead inside due to the sadist evil of his father, But lauren has touched him in a way he never thought possible and he has promised to help and protect her with his life.. There are other deities 'the MOTHER OF LIFE aiding this lost warrior too. She has given a life back to Stabs Deep in exchange for offering his aid to Xairn 'when the time comes..
So I am about 10% thru the book and Lauren and Xairn have fled thru a worm hole and made it to Maud Claw 'i may have the planet name wrong' but 100 THOUSAND Light years away from the clutches of the ALLFATHER in attempt to change the DNA of both of them so they cannot be found by the king of SCOURGE THE ALL FATHER. Will they be able to hide from him?? The allfather can reach any place, his claws will be upon them once again and war is coming for all involved thus far....
I know this will be a changing point in this series.. read with me.. I know you will love the series as much as I do. The author is very talented...
24% way thru, LAUREN AND XAIRN have just had the DNA modified in each of their bodies to hide from the ALLFATHER, They actually exchanged with each other. So Lauren will have Scourge DNA and Xairn will have HUMAN DNA which he needs poor thing...
Also Sophie and Sylvan have their wedding... Adam Rast the HUMAN Private Dective searching for Lauren shows up on the mother ship of Kindred to interview the brothers Baird and Sylvan and accidentally 'but by fate' ends up participating in the wedding party. He completes the goodluck kiss with Nadiah who is related to Sylvan and from TRANQ PRIME. She wants to kiss a blood warrior and has the gift of future sight now. She has seen Adam in her minds eye and cannot wait to kiss this BLOOD WARRIOR.. BUT..... after the kiss finds out he is human and is upset. She well they all thought he was kindre Deep seen the detective and mistaked him for Merrick a kindred warrior who was to be part of the wedding... But the detective is strange, his size same as the kindred warriors a good 6.5 foot tall. Deep green eyes 'true green' as kindred call it... a forest green. He looks Kindred in all aspects. So how can this been Nadiah seen the future of her kissing a Kindred warrior.. Could he be part kindred and not know it???? Maybe his mother or grandmother was breed with a Kindred a hundred years ago??? I have a feeling something is in the blood!! Not yet revealed..... But then there is Revealed (Brides of the Kindred #5) which is about NADIAH AND ADAM!!! Could he be part kindred? Guess I have to wait and see in the fifth book... .. Great exciting read so far.. Very entertaining..
38% DONE READING, Such a good read... wow.. Seems Xairn has some humanity in his DNA now. He loves Lauren, but how will he deal with it since scourge natually are SADIST toward their women.
Well as I have stated each book is a continuation on to the next book.. which it is... I love this series and can only say I am on to book five now and not happy since there are only six boos in the series.. I hate to reach the end of a series and know there are no more books... We do however need to write the author and ask for more.. she said she only planned on writing four books and due to fan request she wrote two more.. well get busy fans.... ask for more ask for more... but in a nice way. Be respectful.. some fans can demand more and I would hate nothing more than a fan to be upset with anger if I were a author saying I want more it was not enough!!! Lets ask or beg with sweetness lol.. I am... JOIN ME ASK THE AUTHOR FOR MORE....
My friend, Robin, who talked me into reading the first book in this series, Claimed (review can be found on this blog), will be happy to know that I have gotten to book 4 in the series and I am still loving The Kindred! I didn’t skip books 2 and 3. They were both terrific stories, and I enjoyed every word. New animals, new foods (some wonderful, some not so great) and at every turn of the page something that made my hidden child giggle while my woman’s heart was sighing. If you love the hot vampires, book two, Hunted might be your favorite. If, like so many of us, you are a plus sized woman, book three, Sought, will be your favorite without a doubt! And lucky you, you get TWO kindred warriors, twins who believe to the bottom of their hearts that you’re a goddess…and they will call you m’lady. Sigh.
This book, book four, is my least favorite so far, but don’t let that worry you much, because I like it just fine and it progresses the story of all the aliens, their customs and relationships with Earth and Earth’s women. This one departs from the usual pairings of Kindred warriors with the earth women they take as brides. In this story we follow Xairn, the only son of the mean, nasty, horrible AllFather of the Scourge, the recent attackers of Earth, and long time enemy of the Kindred. Xairn is nothing like the gorgeous, honorable and protective Kindred. His skin is grey and his eyes are red and black. Eww. I had to give myself a talking to about Xairn’s appearance. Even with a fictional alien, I shouldn’t be a racist or a spiciest…! His backstory is hideous. He was taken from his mother early, tortured by the AllFather and taught the ways of the Scourge. But, he rescued Lauren from certain death at the hands of the AllFather, whisked her away through space and took her on an unforgettable adventure.
That’s all I’m going to say about this story, but I have a lot to say about the amazing world created by this imaginative author, Evangeline Anderson. Funny, witty, irreverent and totally engaging, with elements of every scifi, fantasy and paranormal story I have ever loved, along with some fresh and new elements that have me laughing my butt off one minute and sighing with delight the next. The social, cultural and religious allegory is thoughtful and blatantly obvious…from the wonderful Kindred’s worship of the Mother Of Life and their reverence for women, to the horrible Scourge’s reverence for war and pain rained down indiscriminately at the order of the AllFather. Obvious, of course, and a feminist’s dream world.
I need to mention the blush factor. On 2shay’s blush meter, I would have to say this might rate a six or seven out of ten, though sexual content seldom makes me blush. There is a bit of kinky sex, but it is never over done. Keep in mind that sex is the main thing that helps form a lifetime bond for the Kindred. The bond and sex gives them extra powers that are essential to the story. Isn’t that how it should be for us all? When mind, heart, soul and body meet, the bond should be forever…and give us the power of love. A lesson.
I’m on to book five, Revealed. I hope you are enjoying the journey as much as I have. I’ll post a review of another book in this series soon.
Y’all know I love me a tortured hero, so when Xairn’s story was presented, I couldn’t help but jump all over it!
Lauren is the cousin Sophie and Liv never knew they had. She has a bakery with troubled employees and a complicated life no one envies. Still, Lauren seems content, though she’s in desperate need of finding a way for her bakery to succeed. But all of that fades away when she’s transported from Earth onto a strange alien ship.
The All-Father has finally found the female who the prophesy of old has foretold – Lauren. With her, the Scourge race will be saved. Everything is set in motion for his nefarious plan to come about – will no one come to Lauren’s aid?
Before all hope is be lost, there’s just one thing that throws a wrench in the All-Father’s plan, his son Xairn. The All-Father has always tortured his son, so it’s no surprise that Xairn defies him (although in small amounts), but this time, Xairn has had it. Xairn starts to develop feelings for Lauren and in order to thwart his father’s plan, he must do it all if he’s to escape his father’s side once and for all.
Lauren is intrigued by Xairn, everything from the color of his skin to his quiet, yet strong demeanor that makes her weak at the knees. Though she knows Xairn has feelings for her, too, it’s a frustrating ride for both of them because Xairn can’t take a female without torturing her first. After all, it’s Scourge DNA – that’s the reason Xairn saved Lauren from his father, and Xairn just won’t subject Lauren to his base needs. But can he hold back the lust and love he’s feeling for Lauren? And will Lauren let him?
Found also features Nadiah (a female Kindred) and Adam Rast’s (a human detective) relationship. We start to see the groundwork for what’s to come in book 5. It’s a direct reversal (somewhat) of the books so far with now a female Kindred and a human (or so we think) male.
Can the group of friends find Lauren and Xairn before the All-Father does, or is all humanity and Kindred doomed forever?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This book was extremely long and drawn out. Throughout the book, we get told of all the horrible ways the Scourge mark and abuse their women, thus leading them to near extinction. Xairn holds out the whole book with Lauren teasing and provoking him along the way.
And then when it finally happens, it’s an extremely mild BDSM scene? Really? All that build up? Ugh.
Still, I got through this book and towards the end I was somewhat mildly intrigued, and I started book 5. However, this feeling was short lived and I stopped dead in my tracks after only a few chapters of book 5. I just couldn’t make it through the low self esteem back and forth dialogue and does he like me or not, I’m not good enough, blah blah constant drama, Ugh.
Someone tell me how this series ends up. I’m off this mothership. Smile
This is by far my favorite book of the series thus far. I so heart Xarin. The only reason that I deducted points is because I draw the line at asshole bonding. But you can't get more creative than an alien with 2 shafts. I mean, a primary and secondary penis. I still laugh every time I think about it. Everything else about this story was amazing. From the Sci-fi details to all the conflict. I loved the interaction with the new planet, and the at the same time, we got entertainment with Sophie's wedding. Nadiah and Rast are going to be an interesting couple to watch grow together. Rast was a jerk in this book, but he still made things funny. Xarin's character was so touching to watch transform. For him to sacrifice everything, his entire race to save the woman that he loved--heaven help me. I never thought that I would fall for a light gray alien with red eyes, but I'm definitely in love with him.
The DNA transfer was an intriguing concept as well as hot. I could so imagine my Xarin looking that way. Aqua eyes ... swoon! I really thought the Alien BDMS was creative and believable. Being instilled within the Scourges very DNA made sense. And once again, for Xarin to still fight those urges, made me like him even more. Lauren wasn't helping, seducing him every chance she got, but hell, can't say I don't blame her. I would've been doing the same thing. Xarin was even willing to play the submissive roll, which took me by surprise. That was actually my favorite sexually scene in this book. When he said, "Slap me." Then Lauren said, "I will do this my way. Do you understand me?" and yanked his hair, I fell out laughing. The ending of this book had me on the edge of my seat. It was also dramatic and made me cry. Xarin's been through so much, and all I want is for him is to be happy. He did get some closure, I just hated he also had to endure more heartbreak along with it.
I enjoyed the journey of Lauren teaching Xarin how to love. And also during the DNA swap, Lauren getting some of the female scourge's kinky side. The end sex scene was too much for me. Two shafts in 2 holes just doesn't work for me. I had to skim through some of it and I just pretended that there was only penetration in 1 hole. That is why I prefer the scene where Lauren was the Dominant because that was the case. I would have actually liked for them to stay on Earth, since all the couple so far have had to live on the Mothership. I think them staying on Earth would have really worked for them. But with how it ended and Xarin's Scourge DNA taking over that was no longer an option. Since I'm done with this novel I find myself actually missing Xarin and reading about him and Lauren's story. This is one novel that I will more than likely read again. I am looking forward to Nadiah's story and visting Tran Prim again.
What a great book this could have been had it not fallen short to poor editing and corny dialogue.
Don't get me wrong - I love Anderson's books, and her Brides of the Kindred series is intriguing and addictive. The characters and the world they inhabit are great. But I had a really had time with Xairn's and Lauren's sexual issues. Xairn is a Scourge and is afraid that the sexual habits of his people will scare and harm his lovely human Lauren. Let's see, his race is into nipple piercings, restraints, and rough sex. Some anal. Wow. He thinks it's horrible and cruel. And Lauren comes from Sarasota, Florida, where of course I'm sure they don't have anything like sex shops or have even heard of bdsm. Because, you know, this part of Florida isn't anywhere near to one of the sex capitals of the world. Hello, Tampa?
Xairn's stupidity knew almost no bounds when it came to keeping Lauren safe from his desire to pierce her goods. Let's see, we can take her to a strange planet full of evil, gene-splicing aliens. Get into a argument with her and leave her alone and unguarded in a spaceship parked in an alley. For her protection, you know. Never mind the splicers in the dark. Let's see, we can also take her to a strange home and mix some DNA. Get into another heated, "I must stay away before I want rough sex with you" argument and leave her to the clutches of alien, aardvark looking creatures. Because, you know, rough sex is worse than having an alien slice off your finger and makes clones out of you.
I'm glad when Xairn and Lauren finally figured it out. I almost wanted to draw them a map.
Should I mention that Detective Rast was beyond annoying with his continued insults to Nadiah's psychic abilities. Once, twice was enough. Come on, Rast - If you're living in a world where alien races, space ships, and teleportation is possible, but your teeny, tiny mind can't comprehend the potential for psychic talent, then maybe you should quit the police force and go draw the world flat. You moron.
You know what? I still enjoyed the book. I just enjoy bitching about it more.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
For some reason, I really enjoyed Found. If you read my reviews of the other books, I was pretty unforgiving. I still am, but I found the dynamic between the two main characters, Lauren and Xairn, to be much more pleasant than what the author has written in her prior books. The fact that Lauren was upfront about her desire for Xairn and a relationship with him from the beginning was super refreshing, in comparison to prior books where the heroines are ridiculously and annoyingly reluctant (and for all the wrong reasons, to boot!).
That said, there was a real lack of sexy time in this book. It seemed pretty subdued, considering all the talk of perversions and dark desires that Scourge are afflicted with. The BDSM element was light, but I suppose that makes sense, considering the author tends to neuter the men she writes, when they are around their mates. They are all bark and no bite, which I suppose is one of my major complaints. Also, I have to agree with the reviewer who pointed out the “child abuse survivor” plot line as incredibly trite and oversimplified. It is indeed true that people who suffered abuse as children can become messed up as adults, but this was dealt with in the same manner as the suicide story in Sought; it’s just well…not. Suddenly, Xairn is fine because he’s found his mate? I don’t think so. Life does not work that way, and I was saddened to see his life story so cheaply written off.
Lauren seemed like a sweet and friendly girl, but in a sense, she still suffered from the same shallowness that all of the author’s heroines seem to suffer from. It seems these women don’t have one deep thought in their heads, and they seem to have a ten year old’s grasp of logic and reason. It’s just really disappointing to see this, when I think Evangeline Anderson has a lot of talent and potential as a writer.
I'm a big fan of this series so biased. Another enjoyable story this time following the story of Lauren and Xairn, son of the very evil AllFather, both of whom are Scourge not Kindred but the enemy of human and Kindred alike. Xairn is ready to rebel against evil and his controlling abusive father by taking Lauren away from the AllFather who'd previously kidnapped her to mate with and thereby fulfil his power controlling prophesy of a resurgent Scourge dynasty under his control. What you get is a visit to another alien planet with different life forms, culture and laws and efforts to escape intact. Almost a sci fi story within a story. Then follows a period of will it or won't it happen where Xairn is concerned his BDSM needs and Dominant sexual urges will be out of control and a danger to Lauren whilst Lauren is finding her fantasies leaning towards submission, bondage and discipline. There are times when I would have liked to shake one or the other and say get a move on your wasting time and getting old with your pithering and questioning of self...will there be a delicious bonding session or not? Readers will find out. I also like how previous main characters are still linked into the story. More deliciously erotic experiences between the menage of Kat, Deep and Lock...all in the cause of helping locate Lauren and Xairn of course. A marriage takes place, a death or so, a pregnancy with extras is occurring, new characters being introduced that hopefully will be the main characters of their own story as the next in the series...which is on my TBR list for a special pamper me day; plus the title of the sixth in the series to look forward to. A pleasurable experience indeed. Biased i am. Critically it's reasonably well written. From me another 5 star read for adults.
4.25 Stars. So far, this is my favorite book and favorite couple of the series: Lauren Jakes is the smart, desive pretty long lost Black first cousin of Olivia and Sophie. Xaire ithe large strong handsome red on black eyed grey skinned dual penised reformed Scourge Prince. This story provides a fuller understanding of the conflict aganist the Scourge by Earth and Kindred. The Kindred are looking to form lasting loving bonds with their chosen Earth mates and though women are taken without notice, after 30 days, they decide if they want to stay. The Scourge is looking for one particular woman who is thought to be the fullfillment of an ancient prophecy which tells of the woman who can mate with the AllFather and produce female offsprings who will repopulate the Scourge female population. They think Lauren Jakes is the female of their prophecy; so, they kidnap and jail her on their planet planning to have the evil slimy grotesque AllFather mate with her; but she is rescued by Xaire, the All Father’s estranged handsome warrior son. Kat and the twins help them escape and Lauren and Xaire are given a Kindred space ship 🚀 to go to O’la to get their DNA altered so that they can return to Earth undetectable by the AllFather. They survive a few life threatening situations including the AllFather’s plot to use Xaire to become immortal. The romance between Lauren and Xaire is a really slow burn because Xaire is afraid his sexual dominant behavior and dual penises might be too much of a turn off for Lauren. Lauren readily acknowledges her love for Xaire and her trust that he will not hurt her and is anxious to be his sexually submissive bonded mate. They bond and get their HEA.
Found by Evangeline Anderson is a Sci-fi Erotic Romance with a dash of Suspense/Mystery. 3.75 stars
"Found" is much better than book 3, but I have issues with the amount of editing problems that Ms. Anderson has not taken care of. These include numerous spelling errors and words in the wrong place.
I also have trouble with some of the 'sci-fi' aspects in her world build. Some of these elements are intriguing and show off Ms. Anderson's imagination. Others are just flat out ridiculous. They tend to be a bit like 'Alice in Wonderland' on an acid trip.
Then there is her insistence on inserting inane information and conversations. This leads me to one of my biggest problems with these stories. The amount of insipid conversations DURING the 'Love' scenes. They take away from the passion and fluidity of the moment.
Now for the POSITIVE!
The story of Lauren and Xairn is much more adult than the last two books. Lauren is a very independent and confident woman. Their relationship is much more erotic and complicated. As characters, they are both well defined and I enjoyed their adventure together.
