12 Quickies of Christmas series, Volume 2. Brighten the season with books 7 to 12 of this second omnibus of festive romantic (and hot!) tales ...
Book 7: Passion and A Pear Tree by Tawny Taylor What does a prudish, self-proclaimed loner do when a nearly naked man jumps out of an oversized Christmas gift, sings a slightly racy version of the Twelve Days of Christmas, and promises to make her deepest desires come true? She goes for it, of course, and has the best twenty-four hours of her life. But at the stroke of midnight, the spell ends, and her happy holidays take an unexpected turn. Alone again, there's only one thing she wishes for: a little Christmas magic to bring back the man who taught her the joy of giving.
Book 8: A Christmas Phantasie by Kit Tunstall After a bad marriage, Jakarta finds it difficult to commit to a future with the man she's now seeing. Teague has grown frustrated with her hesitation, believing she doesn't trust him. On their Christmas trip to Castle Phantasie, things come to a head. Jakarta must prove her trust in Teague by submitting to him, or their relationship will end. She loves him, but what he's asking for might be more than she can give.
Book 9: Snow Angel by Joey W. Hill In her misspent youth, Constance used sex as a shallow substitute for the intimacy and love she craved. Fifteen years later, she whispers her deepest wish into Santa's ear at a Christmas benefit, only to discover he is someone who was part of that unfortunate and embarrassing time of her life. Mortified, she plans an early exit from the party, but Santa has different ideas. Sam Coble always wanted to get to know the girl behind the reputation, and now that she is an accomplished, independent woman, that determination spurs him to action. Constance is going to discover this particular Santa has a soft spot for naughty girls. He plans to give her everything she ever put on a Christmas list...and then some.
Book 10: Hot For Santa by Lacey Alexander Amy Finnegan has been attracted to Cole Bradshaw for years, but when he dons a Santa suit at the local mall and asks her to be his elf, her attraction turns into full blown lust. Yet when the entire holiday season passes with no response to her flirtations (leaving the lacy undies she's been wearing beneath her elf dress untouched), Amy resolves to give up the chase. Cole's Christmas Eve invitation (a thrilling night of eggnog and movies), is the wake up call Amy needs to get over her crush. Little does she know that Cole has planned a seduction (complete with erotic Christmas gifts) that will turn her into his willing holiday slave. Before the night is over, the sexy man wearing nothing but a Santa hat will prove to Amy that it's more rewarding to be naughty than nice.
Book 11: Elf Song by Samantha Winston Though he is in great demand at the court, Branagh, the Nutcracker Prince, has sought no mate and found no one to fill his needs. Melflouise Fairnight, once an archer in the elf militia, now a kitchen maid in the palace of the Sugar Plum Fairy wanted only to catch a glimpse of the secretive Nutcracker Prince. She never dreamed he'd desire her, or that his loving could free the elf song she'd kept caged since her husband's death. Their unexpected passion forces Branagh to make a terrible choice, between his kingdom and his woman.
Book 12: Christmas Angel by Lisa Marie Rice Nicole Caron lost the love of her life on Christmas Eve. Now only the Christmas Angel can help her.
A submissive herself, Hill brings authenticity to her intensely emotional BDSM love stories. With over fifty titles and seven series, her contemporary and paranormal romances feature everything from billionaires, bikers, SEALs, firefighters, cops and housemaids, to vampires, mermaids, witches and angels.
"Joey translates the world of BDSM with such intense power and exquisite beauty. LOVE is the most powerful element entwined through the Dominance and submission.” –Goodreads, Pink Lady
Joey is the recipient of the RT Book Reviews Career Achievement Award for Erotic Romance, and she loves to hear from her readers!
For what this story was, I really liked it. I liked it A LOT better than her contribution in the Secrets: Volume 9 edition. While it was pretty hot and pretty emotional, this was waaay too short. Only 33 pages. I wish it could have been longer. And since I'm wishing, I wish it could have had more time spent with the hero and heroine together.
I'm so sad. I have no more Lisa Marie Rice books left to read. I guess I could read the Elizabeth Jennings books I have of hers. This woman needs to stop lazing around the Italian Riviera and get to writing!!!
Snow Angel by Joey W. Hill ~ 4 stars
First off. I love Joey W. Hill. Her Nature of Desire series can do no wrong with me. This story was shorter than LMR's but it seemed weightier and was much kinkier. This little story has some beautifully described bondage and some playful uses of Christmas ornaments.
Hot For Santa by Lacey Alexander ~ 1 star
Did not like this one. It was boring and cliche. The presents reminded me of gifts you would find in the 'naughty' section of Spencers and the fact that the dude was packing nine or ten inches had me rolling my eyes. It was a shame that I didn't like this story. I loved her last Christmas story, Unwrapped, but this was was too silly for my tastes.
Passion in the Pear Tear by Tawny Taylor ~ 1 star
I haven't read a Tawny Taylor book since Dark Master. Now I remember why.
Six short stories, all erotic, some romantic, some down-right silly, all with a Christmas holiday theme…
First up, Passion in a Pear Tree by Tawny Taylor
When Destiny receives a Christmas present from her sister--a nearly nude hunk holding a potted pear tree and determined to give her the best 24 hrs. of her life--she decides to go for it. But her hunk has a secret…and Destiny is going to need a little Christmas magic and a declaration to make her Christmas dreams come true.
This was one wacky story. I really couldn’t connect with either character, so I really didn’t feel the “love”. Points for originality to the author--although I couldn’t help rolling my eyes, chuckling and thinking "WTH" when I found out the hero’s secret… 2 ½ stars
A Christmas Phantasie by Kit Tunstall
Jakarta and Teague are at a crossroads in their two year relationship. Teague was Jakarta’s divorce lawyer when she ended her marriage to her sadistic, controlling husband, and stood by her and supported her throughout the process. He wants to marry her but is having trouble convincing her to trust again. She says she loves him but he needs her to prove she trusts him. So he takes her to Phantasie Castle where he uses some extreme methods to elicit that trust…
Just okay for me. I’m not sure if I agreed with Teague’s ways of getting Jakarta to trust him--one seemed rather crazy--but I guess a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do… 3 stars
Snow Angel by Joey W. Hill
Former foster child Constance, who spent her youth using sex as a way of creating the intimacy and love she desperately desired, just wants a man to wake up with, knowing she’s the most important person in his life. She wants to believe she can trust her happiness in someone else’s hands.
When she relays her wish to the man playing Santa Claus at a business function she’s attending, he sets out to see that her wish comes true.
This was an old acquaintances turned to lovers story, and it was a pretty good one. The hero was a bit of a dreamboat who was into a little rope bondage called Shibari, but it wasn’t as kinky as it sounds. No unrealistic ILYs were exchanged, but it had a HEA feel to it. Not bad. 3 ½ stars
Hot For Santa by Lacey Alexander
Amy’s had a crush on her co-worker Cole for 4 years. When Cole asks Amy to be his Christmas Elf for charity while he plays Santa, she decides to finally make her move, dropping hints and playfully flirting. It takes him a while, but when Cole finally realizes that Amy wants him, he wants to give her a Christmas Eve she’ll never forget. Hopefully she’ll like all the games he has in store for his naughty little elf...
Hot, hot, hot--and it certainly lived up to its title. The only thing wrong was that it was way too short--30 pages wasn’t enough to do this couple justice. 4 stars
Elf Song by Samantha Winston
This one just wasn’t my cuppa. Elves, fairies, fae…the Nutcracker Prince, the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Mouse King, an elf who breaks into an "elf song" when she climaxes…not for me, but I stuck with it. Basically it was a story about two people who have loved and lost, and overcome obstacles to love again. Lots of heat, but didn't do much for me. 2 ½ stars
And my favorite of the anthology, Christmas Angel by Lisa Marie Rice.
Nicole and Alessandro are lovers in Amman, Jordan between December 17, 2002 and December 24, 2002. Nicole works in the Foreign service Diplomatic corp since the age of 25 (she’s 31)--her goal is to be an ambassador in 20 years. She has no time (or plans)for love or sex. She meets Alessandro at a party at the Italian embassy in Amman. He’s gorgeous--35, Neopolitan, tall, dark, broad shouldered, dark eyed, olive tone skin, slightly crooked nose, sexy accent... He has a law degree but entered the Italian foreign service at 25. He tells her “You look like an angel on top of my family’s Christmas tree”. After that, the hormones take over, Nicole and Alessandro have sex for nearly a week, and on Christmas Eve he makes plans to move in with her.
But he doesn’t show up. Nicole is worried, then crushed when she finds out what she thinks is the truth. Nicole thought she knew Alessandro and that he was her soul mate, but she never really knew him at all. Or did she? Is there an explanation? Or was he no more than the good time her head tells her he was, and not the love of her life that her heart tells her?
This is an example of what a good storyteller can do with only 27 pages--she made me care about these characters and fall in love with them. My only wish was that this story could be expanded by say, oh, 200 pages. Very hot, erotic, and romantic. 4 1/2 stars
Read: - 'Passion and a Pear Tree' by Tawny Taylor (2 stars) - 'A Christmas Phantasie' by Kit Tunstall (2 stars) - 'Hot for Santa' by Lacey Alexander (3 stars) - 'Christmas Angel' by Lisa Marie Rice (4 stars)
Did Not Read: - 'Elf Song' by Samantha Winston - 'Snow Angel' by Joey W. Hill
Six stories of Christmas. Volume 1 has the first six stories. If you don't like stories with sex in them you might want to skip this book. I liked the stories and would read again.
I love one-shots when it's manga. Not so much when it's a romance short story. A female diplomat fell in love with a man who disappeared after a week. She's still heartbroken a year later, but they're unexpectedly reunited. Nothing special, and there wasn't enough time to get attached to the characters. I have to say--what an appalling cover. I guess I don't have much of a sense of humor about me reading romance.
Now I'm really sad. This is the last of Rice's current releases that I had left to read.
Multi-author anthology of short stories [and some of them are VERY short:] set at Christmas. I liked the Lisa Marie Rice story Christmas Angel the best - nice HEA. I also liked Joey W. Hill's Snow Angel - the kinky bondage stuff was actually explained! The other stories were typical - if the choice was between developing a plot, building a character or a hot sex scene, guess which one wins!
