Rate this book
For gender-focused courses in Psychology, Sociology, Women’s Studies, and Gender Studies. Unlike other gender texts, Psychology of Gender focuses equally on both men and women, drawing from empirical research and conceptual discussions. The book includes research and discussions surrounding gender in the areas of psychology, sociology, anthropology, medicine, and public health. It reviews the research from multiple perspectives, but emphasizes the implications of social roles, status, and gender-related traits, particularly for relationships and health—areas that are central to students' lives and that have a great impact on their day-to-day functioning. The text is designed for upper-level undergraduate/ graduate-level gender-focused courses in a variety of departments. Not super interested in slightly outdated research on the societal roles of the binary genders in American society. Gave the first chapter a read and decided it wouldn’t add to my knowledge.

It was a good overview of Gender and other topics. But the author’s biases were pretty apparent in some cases. I would expect more objectivity from a textbook.

I was gonna give it 4 stars, but in around chapter 8 or 9 the author uses some terms quite often that most people wouldn't know the meaning of and doesn't define them, which was really frustrating because then I had to google them. (i.e., dryad). Other than that, the book was well-written and engaging and I enjoyed reading it.

Very easy read, which I think is a great plus considering the topic. Helped me prepare my exam, but I recommend it anyway.

Good information, but a strong lack of studying genders outside of the binary. Admits this, though.

Did I add this textbook into my Goodreads? Yes yes I did. I spent so much hours to decipher this book and I deserve to add it to my Goodreads list. This book overall was OK however it went into a lot more political standpoint that I personally don’t have time to care for. However, provide a really good insight about different theories and ideologies regarding gender.

I used this book to teach an undergrad class and would use it again. If I had time I would look for another book - just for comparison.

I did learn with this book though.
