I will admit when I am wrong. I started this book and lost interest about 20% in. Why? I thought it was not going to deliver the brogue, kilts, and magic. The previous book was short on both. Not the case here. I loved everything about this one. I picked it up a few days ago and was hooked.
The hero and heroine were perfect for one another. Their love story was not simple and it was not assured to end happily. I felt the magic was better clarified so the time travel made more sense. I also liked the fact that this heroine was not snatched from the 1800s but from current day. She was no wilting flower even when faced with more than she could mentally process. The story had very good pacing as well.
Ms. Purington did a splendid job with the sex. There was not too much to make this erotica and it didn't overwhelm the story. The lustful thoughts of the h/h fit with their personalities. The two did not go the standard "I had sex with you so I love you" template. The love was a separate matter and it was solidly built. The conflicts the heroine faced felt very real. There weren't many hard twist and turns to the plot but more a slow binding of many threads. I normally don't like this approach but it worked in this story. The parts of the story that ended up being filler were difficult to set outside the overall novel once it was complete as they were well written. To be honest, I am not sure which parts were filler as they were as good as the meat of it.
I plan to continue the series for certain. I am giving 4 stars only because I didn't get into the first part of the book and was able to put it down for months.
This was the second in the series and again, it wasn't a bad book. My biggest complaint is the climax is great and then the resolution of the story seems to take forever.
I decided to start reading the series with this book since it appears it was first published, although not chronologically first in the story flow. Either way, I can't read it. It's a hard DNF. I can't stand the MMC, controlling, angry, sneaky, pushy, rapey jerk. I can't stand the MFC allowing it. If a man shows up in your bed in the middle of the night, you fight. Never mind always being aroused. And when he is yelling at her, restraining her, grabbing her by the arm.. don't bring arousal into the story. I hate writers doing a mash-up of sex with violence. No. Some of the other books in the series may be great. I'll never know because I am so turned off by this. It's not romance. Enemies to lovers trope can be so wonderful. It allows for a slow reveal of who the characters are and an emotional shift to seeing someone in a totally different light. I guess that's what this is supposed to be. It's not.
The first book I read in this series I commented that the story was good but the presentation was a bit of a hot mess, and that I thought it was a representation of this author's earliest works. As I suspected, the writing and presentation was improved this time and I am looking for it to continue to develop through the many MacLomain books to follow. This story was good but I can't say that I truly came to love either of the main characters. Furcher was a real jerk from the get-go and just never let up until the last chapter. We came to know what was behind his behaviour but it still never excused it or explained why she was so forgiving of it. I would have loved to have an epilogue to see how Furcher adapted to his new life.
I loved this book, it's two main characters and the personality conflict that works so well! Dreaming of the same incident night after night, can be heart rendering, however meeting the man in your dreams may be very different to what you imagine. I read this as part of : The MacLomain Series 1-4.
I didn’t feel like the H and h loved each other with this one. Just wasn’t a strong connection. It was just kinda ehhh. I was glossing over the book towards the end. Wish the epilogue was longer. I also like it better when the future goes back to stay in time. Not the other way around. So maybe that’s some of it too.
So good. Totally enjoyed this one and it's probably my favorite of the series. The last few chapters really got me in the feels. Caitlin and Ferchar were my favorite couple so far. Ferchar was most definitely book-boyfriend material. I got a little choked up with Adlin and Mildred. Anyway, I think I'll jump right into the next book in the series, because I can appreciate the stories more when I read them back to back.
This is the story of Caitlin, and Ferchar . He is the Chief of the Mac Lomain clan, and she is from the future.I loved this one. It had mystery, and romance, heartache, and touch of magic used to go back ,and forth between time. She arrives in his time period in Scotland before the Bruce is born with her brother, and a boy working on her lawn. She has been having nightmares for three years about a lady looking her child, and a handsome highlander trying to find him ,with no luck. It seems this is all, destined to happen and much more. Their lives are woven in Destiny, and controlled by visions, and fate. It made me angry, and worried, and I laughed, and cried. The highlanders are not bad either to gaze on. I really liked Caitlin. She was strong willed, with a sweet spirit for others welfare, and an open heart. The romance can be a bit steamy, but it is not overdone. There is violence of coarse, battles, and swords, but then I like swords. I love the way they speak, no wonder Sean Conery has always been so loved as an actor. His voice, and accent comes to mind each time Ferchar speaks. I am on to book three. I have not read this whole series in order. I began with the most modern, and have backtracked, so a lot of there characters are more than familiar to me. It is still wonderful to learn their stories, and how the ring always unites true love.
This is my first exposure to Sky Purington and I was curious about this book based on the reviews I read. I have to say I was interested right from the start. It drew me in and I wanted to know what happened, so it was a hard book to put down.
Lot's of things occurred in this book that you wouldn't find elsewhere. It was a little surprising, yet very refreshing. It took the predictability out of the read and added more of a mystery, and to me, that translates as enjoyment.
Overall, I liked the book very much. However, I felt that it was about 50 pages too long. By the time I got close to the end...it just dragged. I did force myself to find that happy ending...but I'll say she made me work for it.
I didn't know this was the second in a series...I will more than likely keep an eye out for the first book...I do like they way she writes.
Having found the prologue to the series, and Book 1, a bit confusing I'm glad to say I enjoyed this second of the series much more. Now more used to Sky Purington's style of writing, and to the whole concept of the time travel of the trilogy, I launched into this one and didn't want to put it down. I really had to find out what the hero, Ferchar, was going to do next. For me he's a love him or hate him sort of guy. Caitlin is a very determined young lady-again you really like her or you find her too demanding. There are secrets still to be discovered in Book 3 and I can't wait to read the last one now. (Adlin, the wizard, is gelling more for me now and I do wonder how he will feature next!)
I disliked almost this entire book. The relationship between H & h was not compelling at all. They were either angry at each other, pointedly 'ignoring' one another or having sex. There was nothing there that made me care about them.
And once again - as with book #1 - the magic stuff was kind of hurled around Helter skelter with no real anchor to hold onto. It felt out of my reach the entire time so I lost interest in it.
Also, the way information is doled out in miserly, tiny, painful pieces makes sure that readers really have no idea what is happening or WHY. Or HOW. Extremely irritating.
I DNF at 81%. I simply didn't care anymore when I'd rather stare at the wall than read, it's time to move on. And I will not be looking for any more books by this author. Bummer.
