During my high school and college years, I read much of The Ilian and know its story. However, I have never read it from cover to cover. Before embarking on that journey, I wanted to review the basic story line, characters and themes to make my reading of the text more meaningful. I found CliffNotes on Homer's The Iliad very insightful. I will now launch into the reading of what I believe is one of the most significant literary works ever written.

Surprisingly useful to a 44 year old man attempting to read The Iliad for the first time. Nice character and chapter summaries. Good plot analysis. No guilt since I was actually reading The Iliad for pleasure!

Realize the Greatness Before You

Having never read the Iliad before, I thought it might be nice to ClffsNotes as I read it in order to better understand it. WOW! This little book way exceeded my expectations. It opened up the Iliad to me so I could recognize why it is so magnificent. The chapter summaries were brief, but excellent. The Character notes and critical essays at the end contributed tremendously to both my understanding and appreciation. I even found the short quizzes at the end an enjoyable way to assess my general comprehension of Homer's work. In short, the ClffsNotes allowed me to recognize the greatness of the Iliad. I will definitely use CliffsNotes when I read other great classics.
