Common Core Curriculum Maps in English Language Arts, Grades K-5

Rate this book
The first books to present specific guidance for teaching the Common Core State Standards Forty-three states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands have signed on to adopt the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The need for curriculum guides to assist teachers in helping students meet these standards has become imperative. Created by teachers, for teachers, the research-based curriculum maps in this book present a comprehensive, coherent sequence of thematic units for teaching the skills outlined in the CCSS for English language arts in Grades K-5. The maps address every standard in the CCSS, yet are flexible and adaptable to accommodate diverse teaching styles. Any teacher, school, or district that chooses to follow the Common Core maps can be confident that they are adhering to the standards.

Note that "Common Core" is "a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization formed in 2007 to advocate for a content-rich liberal arts education" and is NOT affiliated with the "Common Core State Standards" (CCSS). Having stated that fact, I must mention that this resource includes excellent recommendations for literary and informational texts for thematic units that address the CCSS. However, I wish the editors had included an index listing the standards and the pages (unit) on which these were addressed. Also includes art, music, and media recommendations and in some units some cross-curricular suggestions for history/geography, science, art, music, math, and/or physical education/health. In addition, it includes resources found on the internet.

great book with activities based on the common core state standards....good read if you're just getting to know the standards, but pushes you further with activities if you're familiar with them already.
