I don't think that we really have fireflies in New Zealand. We have glow-worms, but the imagery I read in American books, for instance, with kids running round with jam jars and such... not so much. I have to admit, I'd like to see a swarm of them one day. That catch-a-firefly imagery is included in this little picture book, and the author makes it clear that fireflies don't sting or burn the kids that catch them... although she also has the little girl let the insect that she's caught fly away unharmed, which is probably the ideal interaction on both sides.

Again more focus on being chased than I would have liked. But interspersed with a story from underground through mating.
