It has the basics for those who are interested to find out what tantra is all about. I think if one were really going to get into it, a workshop or some more in depth discussion/manual would be helpful. Seems like tantra isn't something you can just do after reading an intro on it anyway. This book completes its mission of being a beginner's guide. I liked the quotes from people who practice tantra- some insightful things there...
After finishing my last book I decided to finish off the last few chapters of this one before moving on. This was also a very inspirational and informative read on the topic of tantric sex. As with the last one I will share an excerpt that I feel gives a sense of the book and leave it for you to decide if its something you'd be interested in reading at some point.
"The path of Tantra goes on and on, endlessly changing. As soon as you arrive at one point it brings up new questions and areas to explore. For instance, once you work on healing shame about your body or past experiences you come up against the question of what's possible. Once you take away the negativity that has been limiting and hampering you, you dissolve into formlessness and you ask yourself, what is a different form for this energy? Instead of asking what do I want, how do I get my pleasure, you ask what do women really want. You ask, what does my partner really want. And then, when you think you've found out, you need to check in with yourself about what you really want yourself. You discover there are no answers, there is only the journey. It's like a dialogue between yourself and your beloved of constant discovery. There's no goal and no set answers--it's a journey that contains so many questions and answers within itself." ~John Hawken, Tantra teacher.
Not just about sex! A wonderful guide about the arts of Tantra as a whole that offers advice, testimonials, and allows you to have a healthy dialogue with both your partner and yourself. It has taught me how to focus my energy and not only dispel negativity, but also help the positive energies grow.
Practical understanding of tantra. Surprised it didn’t tell the stories of Shiva and Shakti, or explain how tantra fits into Hinduism. This book skimmed the spiritual history of tantra, focused predominantly on the spiritual practices.
Enigmatic read regarding states of mind between partners and quests for fabulous sex. For me fabulous sex ha happens when partners are like minded and physically attracted.
