An introductory text for beginners with no background in programming, this book teaches students how to write object-oriented programs and is appropriate for any first programming course in Java. It covers both Java applets and applications. The fundamentals of programming are examined through the use of predefined objects supplied with the book, and students go on to learn how to define their own objects and how to develop programs using object-oriented design methodology. In addition, modern programming topics, such as event-driven and GUI (Graphical User Interface) programming, are covered. The book uses Java which is suitable as a vehicle in teaching object-oriented programming for beginners. Other features include: incremental program development; JDK (Java Development Kit) 1.1-compatible; and all programming tasks, examples, exercises and codes are presented in Java.
