Authors Rob Lebow and Randy Spitzer show how to transform a business by replacing the control and manipulation that typically characterize the workplace with personal accountability. The book helps readers determine the level of accountability that exists in a company, discusses the ""Seven S's of Accountability, "" and introduces the ""member citizen"" concept and the metaphor of the Wise Counsel -- a coach, mentor, and leader who functions as a resource, not a controller.
A book ahead of its time. Only a few companies have managed to practice this principles. I think it's difficult in today's incentive managed companies deploy a freedom-based work force based on trust instead of fear on the principle that people can be trusted to do great things instead of the current managerial theory that makes everybody a suspect that need to be watched. Even in my own company I see it difficult to establish, I'll keep on researching for more information on these new approaches to self managed teams of people.
Even though this book was published 15 years ago it is still extremely relevant today and should be read by every CEO to at least look at this option of building an organization. The book is written in the style of a novel which I very much enjoyed and created a flow in reading it.
