Tired of holding your breath, waiting for exactly the right moment to arrive before you can start living the life you really want? When will it be safe for you to stop working so hard and feeling stressed out, burnt out, and generally dissatisfied with life? When you get married? Promoted? When you retire? It's time to stop waiting and start living. As renowned success coach Jennifer White proves in this amazing book: You can have it all -- more time, more money, and more fun -- on your own terms -- starting today!Based on White's popular courses and seminars through which she has helped thousands of people nationwide live more fulfilling and productive lives, Work Less, Make More "TM" is an easy-to-follow 10-step program for overcoming your fears, unblocking your passions, channeling your energies, and managing your time more efficiently.
How to turn success into even more success and fulfillment!
Jennifer White's book is not for wimps and losers.
A self-help book written by one of the finest success coaches in the country, WORK LESS, MAKE MORE is an innovative tool to help self-driven, highly motivated individuals who are probably already successful do more and do better - to pull themselves out of a stalled rut, perhaps; to work more effectively; to make a quantum leap to a higher level of success; and clearly, to make a substantially higher level of income while working at a physically less demanding level.
Jennifer White's focus is on results and the premise, while difficult to envision, is achievable for those who are willing to make a paradigm shift in their outlook on what constitutes success, to undergo a sea change in their relationships with their family, their friends, their customers and their constituents.
This book is NOT for those that are unwilling to subject themselves to an intense level of scrutiny and, for a significant period of time, to pull themselves a long way out of previous comfort zones and to instill in themselves new habits.
My personal opinion is that this book is most likely to be successful for those individuals that are to a significant extent self-employed, self-driven, highly motivated and worrying with the realization that their career needs a lift. For those that qualify and are willing to change, Jennifer White's prescription will help you to become more deeply fulfilled and earn substantially higher financial rewards without driving yourself to an ulcer, without insulating yourself from your family and friends and without contemplating an early grave.
I didn't even really want to read this book, but I needed an audiobook and my options were limited, so I impulsively added it to my overdrive cart and I am so glad I did. You know those books that you will remember reading for the rest of your life? This will be one of them for me. While a lot of the book focuses on people who are entrepreneurs, there are so many amazing tips and lessons for the everyday working individual. I found it so empowering, so much so, that I looked up the author to find out what else she had written and found out that she tragically passed away in the early 2000's. Its so sad because she had so much to offer.
I loved this book so much I ordered a hard copy and am anxiously awaiting its delivery because I plan on reading it again and again.
Despite some now dated technological references, this book offered some pretty good tips. The work less make more concept isn't just based on money but also on personal satisfaction with life in general.
I really liked the idea of "duplicating," or teaching your employees to do what you do to 1) help you increase productivity and 2) prepare them for a promotion.
The book is full of questionnaires to help guide readers through how to make realistic changes in how you work.
Overall I would recommend this book to readers who feel a little burnt out by work, especially those who feel like they are in a work rut.
The author advises at the beginning of the book to read it all the way through once, and then go back through to work on the chapters and exercises that the reader most needs. Good advice! Because I listened to the audio book, I will get a hard copy when I am ready with a journal to go through the exercises.
There were a lot of reminders of best practices I've studied elsewhere. One year ago I listened to Tim Ferris' The Four-Hour Work Week. Jennifer White has a lot of the same advice, so her book served as a good review for me. Some of what she advises I've already put into habitual practice; some I now remember I need to implement; and some was new ideas that I look forward to beginning.
This book is BURSTING with practical advice, real-world scenarios that you can actually apply to your life, and refreshing honesty that isn't cleverly packaging a sales pitch. I am a big fan of self-improvement authors who tell you; "read this book once, and then go back and do the work, otherwise you'll be overwhelmed before you know it. Jennifer White speaks with warmth, authority, experience and I loved my pass-through read of this book. I am seriously considering spending the $18 for the kindle book (i read most of my materials from the library) to start the work she suggests in this book. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking to make your life different!
“Work Less” in this book is not about being lazy, but less “busy” work, less “low quality” work, etc... Make More” is not just money, but Make More time, friendships, build relationships, etc. Started the book with no expectations... it’s written in easy and simple ways to improve once work-life balance, and to get more out of it. Though this book was written 2 decades ago, almost all tips, tricks and methods are still applicable. Worth a read...
My first issue was the audiobook is read by the woman who does the Brandon Sanderson books [Kate Reading aka Joanna Ward], so I found it really hard to deal with that. [why, brain? why?]
Next is how little things change. This dates from 1997 and talks about how emails, palm pilots, and hand phones are time sucks you should be wary of.
But she has a lot of sensible advice, mostly aimed at business people or the self employed.
This book wasn't directly aimed at me, but I still gained a lot of valuable insight and ideas to look into. I found a good majority of the exercises to be ones I'd actually like to do and explore.
Was a great book even though it was written a while age. Biggest wa take away is to take action. Do something and their first step step is act on the book. Do as it says. I plan to. Listened to audio. Ordered a used version for me to take action.
This book is useful if you're a supervisor or business owner in a service or white collar industry. If you work on an hourly basis or a blue collar worker then pass it up.
If you are looking for a change to make your life more productive and meaningful, this is a good book for you. It is filled with step by step exercises that are easy to follow and complete.
I've listened to the audiobook version of this book during my commute to/from work. One thing that differentiates this book from other "lifestyle design" books is that, as the author reiterates many times, "make more" portion talks about "making more of your life" rather than "merely making more money".
First part focuses on working less, by various tools and methods, such as eliminating, delegating etc. The second part focuses on making more, while working less or better put working effectively.
Anyone who wants to make most of this book, (note to myself) should keep a journal and do the exercises and beyond all implement the recommendations in your life. The ideas / recommendations introduced might be familiar or common sense, unless this is the first self-help book you've ever read. Still, it provides a good framework to ask yourself good questions, answer them for yourself and your family and steer yourself in a better direction.
Don't let the main title dissuade you, there is wisdom and insight in this book that can benefit anyone-no matter what stage of life or work area! Although this book is fundamentally about building wealth (Jennifer does a fantastic job early on, in expanding the definition of wealth to include every facet of life not just money); Work Less, Make More refreshingly provides guidance, advice, and practical exercises for creating a more overall fulfilling life. This is a fantastic read for anyone who wants to improve their life by focusing on their passions, identifying what they want to achieve, and shaping their future.
I just listened to this work. This is not the kind of work you listen to in a car while driving. That said that's wwhat I did and got a pretty good overview. But this is an action book and if you want to get the most out of it, you would do well to re-read it and do the exercises.
The author is a success coach. She doesn't hold back in trying to help. She is the epitome of enthusiasm.
I intend to read it again; this time the right way.
I listened to this as a audiobook on overdrive and was pleasantly surprised. I plan to reread this one (a rare task for me). I found the advice to be helpful even though I do not work in the business world. I appreciated that the advice is not a repeat of what I have heard before in other self-help books.
Yada yada yada. Blah blah blah. Not much of a review, eh? I don't completely agree with her approach. There are certainly bits and pieces of organizational strategy I can utilize but being a creative, most of what she had to say, left me apathetic.
I thought this book had some excellent advice that is still relevant, 15 years after it was first published. I thought the content and self-evaluation to be very insightful.
