Visually stimulating illustrations combined with charming storytelling delights both parent and child. Watch as penguins hatch and make their way in a bold new world.
This is a picture book that follows two Adelie penguins through life. It discusses habitat, food eaten, predators/dangers and mating habits. A good early elementary level science book!
After reading this book I felt the information to be very accurate. I was able to look at the back of the book and see the bibliography section. It had other books related to this topic to check out at the library, web-sites, and even other books written by this author. The text in this book is meant for a reader that is in the grades of second of third. The clarity of the information that is written is very easy for the reader to understand
These are bright, appealing books that follow a baby animal’s first year growing up in her natural habitat. The story is told entirely from the animal’s perspective, and the story is illustrated in a paper “cut-out” style.
The final three pages are directed more toward older readers, with habitat maps, animal facts, and website addresses for more information.
This is a good 5th grade book because of the descriptions of the penguin. The author starts the book with the description of the penguin like the habitat, the weight, and its scientific name. I classify it as literature because the author uses expressions to start the story, it is not a list of facts. It is a non-fiction book.
A nice nonfiction book about the Adelie penguin. Nicely formatted for beginning researchers, with a narrative that reads well aloud, yet has plenty of factual sidebars. The cut paper illustrations make this feel more like a picture book than a nonfiction text. It worked well with 1st grade.
