From A to Z, here is a comprehensive source book containing everything you wanted to know about Superman. The complete details of Superman's origins, biographies of every character, synopses of every Superman story, pictures of Superman and his friends Lois Lane, Perry White, and Jimmy Olsen--and his enemies, the Toyman, the Prankster, Brainiac, and the arch criminal Lex Luthor--are a few of the features included in this Superman encyclopedia.
Michael Lawrence Fleisher's comic-book writing career spanned two decades in which he authored approximately 700 stories for DC, Marvel, and other comics publishers. His work on series such as The Spectre and Jonah Hex is still highly regarded, as is his work on the Encyclopedia of Comic Book Heroes. After a widely reported libel case his comic output declined, with his last published comic assignment appearing in the UK anthology 2000AD in 1995.
If there is one thing that deserves the description labor of love it is this one. Well, there are three. The others are on Batman and Wonder Woman. Now this is an encyclopedia. You can learn (nearly) everything that ever happened to the Man of Steel. Until 1976 or so. But who cares for what was going on after that. Fleisher had the idea of writing such a book while working on the Encyclopedia Britannica. At least that is what he claims. - I just learned that he died this year. A great man. On the crazy side, of course.
This wonderful volume of information on all things Pre-Crisis Superman was one of those books I read as a young fan and got me so wound up about wanting to read those stories, I have been collecting now for over 40 years! Fleisher really knew Superman (and Batman and Wonder Woman) and this labor of love still shines through. Don't expect this to be useful for the modern Superman, but rather the Golden and Silver-Age Superman that were the basis for making DC great!
I liked this book because it shows everything that ever happened in the superman universe like who he has fought how and when he died and his love affairs
