John Tango is zo iemand.
"Matz" is the pseudonym for French writer Alexis Nolent. He has written scripts for video games, a novel, and as Matz, a number of comics including Triggerman by Walter Hill. His graphic novel, Du plombe dan la tete a.k.a. Headshot, was adapted into the 2012 film, Bullet To The Head.
I appreciate that, while there is a continuity, each volume has a self-contained story arc. It's like experiencing a cinematic action movie about gangsters and mercenaries in comic book form.
And yes, my favorite part is definitely Matz's writing.
Some people just can't get away from trouble. As if they're looking for it. Or is it other way around? Tango is one of those people. After the adventure from first issue, he's sailing with Mario through Caribbean, but all that's good comes to an end. Having being bored to death with sailing, Mario convinces Tango to stop somewhere and what better place then to visit Tang0's grandfather who lives on a small island in the Caribbean. However, beforementioned trouble awaits.
Some more history of Tango revealed, loveable new characters in addition to ones we already met, Tango's old love flame and a cute little story. Oh, yeah, and a nice nod to the XIII by Jean Van Hamme.
Truth be told, reading Tango makes all seems deja vu, yet one can't stop reading it with a smile on his/hers face. It's one of those cheesy action comic books that just takes you places, making you forget about everything. I would love to see TV series about Tango's adventures. Matz and Xavier know what they're doing.
Loosely following up from where the first album ended, we follow Tango and Mario on their solo trip when they decide to visit Tango's grandfather who lives among other people in an isolated island ...
When they learn that the island is being eyed by mafia moguls to keep it as their private storage unit Tango join hands with old men from his past to defeat them...
Finally Mario decides to stay back with Tango's grandfather and Tango probably ventures on his own adventure (with his new girlfriend from his childhood)
Like tha first album this deserves applause for the artwork and the crispy story telling... 4 stars for the let down on the last act...
