Let me start by saying that I have not taught kindergarten before. This book is full of great ideas; some are not practical which brought the rating down to 4 stars. However, after reading this I feel I can adequately converse with the other experienced kindergarten teachers without feeling like an inexperienced dummy.
I think this book is a little outdated. I think that most teachers are already doing these things in their classrooms. I think it could help a first year teacher or a teacher transitioning into kindergarten.
There wasn't anything new or interesting for me in this book. Another reviewer said it seemed like most teachers were already doing the things suggested in this book, which is exactly how I felt while reading it.
There were nearly 2 dozen pages that I marked in this. Most of the ideas stand the test of time and I look forward to implementing them and trying them out. The copyright is 2001 and there is basically no reference to the internet, which I found amusing for some reason. I’m glad I picked this one up for just really basic, good structural ideas.
