A solid, evidence-based resource for educators looking to refine their reading instruction. The book provides a clear and practical approach to assessing students’ reading abilities and tailoring instruction to meet their needs. The IF-THEN charts are a standout feature, offering quick and actionable strategies based on student performance. I also appreciated the way each major component of reading—like phonics, fluency, and comprehension—gets its own dedicated chapter, making it easy to find targeted instructional techniques.

There are expanded strategies for English language learners, a focus on technology integration, and a chapter on family involvement to help prevent summer learning loss. As a high school English teacher studying to be a Reading Specialist, I found the book’s practical tools useful, though some sections felt more geared toward elementary educators. While I would have liked to see more strategies directly applicable to struggling adolescent readers, the book still provided helpful insights that I can adapt for my students. Overall, I gave it four out of five stars—it's a well-organized and informative guide.
