The vastness of the Adirondack mountains hides a bone-chilling crime.
When a shivering and bound teenage girl reappears on a train track with no memory of who she is or how she got there, and etched into her skin are the names of missing girls from unsolved cases, investigator Noah Sutherland is assigned the case.
The case becomes personal after learning that one of the names in her skin is his childhood friend, believed to be kidnapped twenty-five years ago.
However, the deeper he probes to uncover the truth, the more dangerous the investigation becomes as a treacherous storm thunders toward High Peaks, and a new abduction forces him to think fast.
Can he unravel her final hours before it's too late?
This new mystery crime thriller series is perfect for fans of James Patterson, David Baldacci, Michael Connelly, Lisa Jackson, Sandra Brown, Dennis Lehane, C.J. Box, LJ Ross, Harlan Coben, and Craig Johnson.
I guess I made a mistake reading book 3 before reading books 1 & 2 because there were names mentioned and occurrences referred to that I had no idea about and were never described thoroughly. This, and the fact that they really had nothing to do with the main plot, was confusing. I was also left with some questions, like about the notes made from the victim's nighttime ramblings.. what information did they decipher from them.. otherwise, why even have them in the plot. And the money.. suddenly there was a sum mentioned and I had no idea about it's basis.
This is the third book in this series that I have read and they have all been brilliant. There is one problem with them and that is that I cannot put them down!! Housework forgotten!! The characters grow on you quickly. The stories lines keep you reading and the surprises keep you on the edge of your seat. If you like crime thrillers this is for you. You will not be disappointed. I am on to book 4 next but may give it an hour or two before I start to read it as I should do a bit of housework and I know when I start reading nothing else will matter. Well done Mr Hunt and keep them coming !
Ok, I did enjoy the book but it wasn’t exceptional as far as Jack Hunt stories go. By the time I got to the last chapter, I couldn’t figure out who Ed was. Then it all came back after I thought about it for a long time. It was fairly engrossing, surprising in detail, and kind of made me want to get to the wonderful place in the Adirondacks. I only gave it four stars, because it wasn’t as good as I know that Jack Hunt’s books could be. Rebecca
Jack Hunt has done it again. His third book is as good as the first two. His description of characters and the area help the reader understand the whys and hows of the story. He gives just enough background from his other books for the reader to understand certain issues but not completely retelling previous stories. The suspense is evident, enough to want to keep reading until finished. There are lots of twists and turns which make Hunt's books so exciting.
I absolutely love this exciting story. Never expected the shocking ending and all the secrets revealed.. I highly recommend this author. I can’t wait to read more of his books and this story was so good even though it was booked number three. I felt like I’ve known them all the characters a long time.. please read his book and all of his books you will thoroughly enjoy them without all the nasty language. It was a great book..
And his family, and his county... Our hero is a rather hardheaded fellow recreating all his family and social relationships while he solves current and cold cases with the help of a dedicated new patrol and an irascible Scottish exNYPD detective. Good mysteries and some chuckles in the series.
We see a couple of cases develop in this story. Noah's sister and brother have their own story woven into it. Noah is trying to find out who a missing girl is and the case gets complicated quickly. Murder, kidnapping, abduction, and trafficking are all part of a book that's hard to out down.
Young women continue to go missing, and the sheriff's office makes no headway in figuring out what is going on. Finally, Noah takes on the case. When his daughter is kidnapped, the pressure is on to save her and solve the case. There was a little too much description of the snowstorm for my taste.
Noah Sutherland is a state cop that finds himself chasing missing girls from the past especially Payton that disappeared when he was in high school. A young girl is found along the railroad tracks. She is bruised and does not know who she is. This story leads us to a dark hidden group that have been kidnapping for years.
Oh wow ! Started slow and then with every page gathered momentum til I had to finish it, no matter what time I read to. Just brilliant. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
I am enjoying this series, I know this part of the country and I guess that helps, maybe?, but anyways I cansider this a very good read. I am looking forward to the next one (hope its not going to be the last).
Great depth of human interaction and understanding. Rich character development. Very intriguing and engrossing story line, while complex, all its parts were tied together masterfully.
Interesting reading. Suspenseful with a look to the next novel. Certainly worth reading. Will look for next book. Brought about thought of this trafficking.
Great story with beleavable characters Many twists and turns and the author kept the potential love interest alive til the very end I highly recommend this book
