Despite the title, this is not really a mystery. It IS, however, like sitting down with a group of old, loyal friends. It reminded me of a long, reunion episode of the Golden Girls, my all-time favorite series, with all their usual flashbacks and array of emotions, which, of course, we ladies know means EVERY emotion under the sun. :) It really does feel like sitting down for a slice of cheesecake and cup of tea with friends every time you pick the book up.
It was an immensely enjoyable journey, and I will be keeping an eye out for more from this author in the future. Any woman with a little gray in her head, or on her soul, will enjoy this read. The back actually has a review from Bette Midler, and I can't help wondering if perhaps this is, at least in part, based on true events with true, lifelong friends. <3
There were moments where the plot dragged but this book had some beautiful moments of brilliance. It really captures friendship and how it grows and changes with time. I liked the aspects of hollywood and how age and gender play into various relationships. I spent some time laughing during the book and then there were also these poignant scenes, dialogues, moments that had me on the verge of tears.
